I'm trying to install Blood, an old game based of the Duke Nukem 3d engine, but it doesn't seem to want to work on my laptop with Windows 7. I can install it, but when I try to run the exe, it gives me a message saying: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher." Has anyone gotten this game to run on a 64 bit system?

I played Torchlight quite a while ago as the Alchemist, and I'm about done with a second playthrough as the Vanquisher. I just love the game, it's so addicting, and I cannot wait for the sequel this summer. I was planning on getting D3 when I first started hearing about it, but if I understand correctly you have to constantly be connected to the internet to play it, even singleplayer, which is a total dealbreaker for someone who goes to a college where the internet can just stop working at any time. Plus my laptop is kinda crappy and I'd prefer not to shell out a few hundred bucks so I can play the latest greatest games.

Of course I have to recommend Dracula by Bram Stoker, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and The Picture of Dorian Gray; most of them are the beginning of now over-used and over-parodied themes and stories, but if you can separate them from that they are fantastic reads. I'm currently working on Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness, and it is fantastic, so I recommend that as well.

I didn't buy Blood 2 from GoG, but rather got the CD used off of ebay or amazon or some such. Anyway, I play it on a Windows 7 laptop and it runs. It is rather buggy; it freezes up occasionally and there's a few graphical glitches, but it does run. It should be noted also, that (using the CD anyway) you have to copy the "game" folder from the CD onto your computer and run it from the .exe file in there.

For some reason the first time I played it it took ages to figure out the right configurations for DosBox (it was an illegal copy of Blood though). Just yesterday though, I bought it from gog.com and used their installer and it runs beautifully.

What's the best way to run Blood? I think I have it sitting around in a zip file somewhere on my PC, and I used to play it with DOSBox; is there a simpler way, a la ZDoom?

Would you date someone who is transgendered?
Aaronjw replied to Chopkinsca's topic in Everything Else
Can't really say that I would. Not necessarily because I don't want to date a transwoman; mainly because I see dating as a path to marriage, and I see raising a family as a big part of marriage, and this cannot be done when there is no real* female in the relationship. I know there are other options, including but not limited to adoption, but I truly want to have my own kids in a natural way. *When I say real, I use it only for lack of a better term to say someone with a functioning female sexual organ, and meaning no insult to any transwomen here or anywhere. -
Doomworld Amazing Music thread (no longer a quiz section, just post good music here.)

It's true. I saw the trailer for the movie, thought it looked decent, so I started reading the comic. The comic is GREAT (though the first two volumes are a little short on story), a good supernatural Western kinda thing, really fun read--I've read up through volume 4. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, the movie doesn't seem to have a single thing in common with the comic, which is a pity, as the comic would make a great Western film, rather than this futuristic-Western thing they seem to have going.

I downloaded the beta on my Dell Studio laptop, hardly a gaming machine, and it ran completely smoothly, albeit on the lowest settings. I really enjoyed it, but like Craigs said, it doesn't really seem like a 50 dollar game. There's also an issue which I ran across on their forums: all your data is stored on their servers, which means that if their servers are down or if you don't have internet, you can't play. Also, if they at some point decide to no longer support the game and take the servers down, you can't play anymore. So basically, it's an MMO without a large explorable world, and without regular updates.

This is just way too awesome. I think I came a little bit when I realized I could grab lost souls and throw them ** Found one bug. I don't think anyone's mentioned it, but while I was playing through Doom 1, I found that if I used the berserk pack attacks in very vertically tight corridors, I often got stuck and had to noclip out. I'm assuming this is because the corpses now have some sort of mass...? Also, and I don't know if this is your deal or not, but it might be handy to have a crosshair on the assault rifle, for those of us that don't like the toggle-able crosshair in doom. It would make sniping a little easier.

Figured it out. Had to switch the compatibility mode to "Doom," in ZDoom.
-
I'm having this problem too. When I try to shoot at the switch the bullet just hits the linedef that shows the bars and won't go through them.

I'm seriously hoping someone takes this idea and runs with it. I would LOVE to see and fight some "realistic" looking angels in Doom :P I'm trying to imagine fighting something like this in Doom: http://pbmo.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/thrones.png?w=300&h=300

This band is so brutal they can't even be described as death metal; they are instead: Skullcore. Clearly the best band ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-pdz8Dg36Y And yes, I'm being sarcastic.

I don't know why, but I really like E1M8. I guess I just really like the moodiness of it.

Thanks for the info, and link. @Grazza: I did try looking for some Blood forums, but couldn't find anything, like you said.

Downloading now! Looks awesome! So, what's the verdict? Does it work with SkullTag? I've never been able to get GZDoom working on this computer, but SkullTag will, so that's why I ask.

I've just now started experimenting some with the Doom in Hexen format in DB2, using some tutorials on the internet. I've learned how to make 3d bridges, silent teleports, and slopes. As some of you may know, I've been working on map for a while called Tower of Belial. I was originally making it in the Doom 2 format, but now that I've started using the Doom in Hexen format, I'd like to work on the map in that format so I can do some other stuff. So, is it possible to change my current wad into a ZDoom based wad? I really want to use some of the ZDoom features, but I *******ely don't want to start the whole map over. Thanks! EDIT-- I was also wondering: when people refer to the ZDoom format, to they usually mean the Doom in Hexen format?

Exporting a previously made map to another format in DB2

I figured that would work, but when I tried, it didn't. -

That worked! Thanks! -

I downloaded ZWADCONV. But (after I extracted it from the zip file), when I click on the .exe, it looks like it brings up a dos box, but it's only open for a fraction of a second, so I can't actually do anything. What am I doing wrong? I'm using Vista, if that makes a difference. -
Any chance of a Let's Play video from you and maybe Hippocat?
-
Will it work with ZDoom? This laptop won't seem to run GZDoom. Looking forward to playing!

Looks awesome. Unfortunately, my laptop here at college won't seem to run GZDoom. Grrr...
