I was thinking today and had a thought: does Heretic have to be about cobblestone and wood? How far can you go with smoother stone textures, metal, and "Quake-like" textures before it stops feeling like Heretic?

@Nine Inch Heels The gameplay feel doesn't, but I'm talking about the feel of the atmosphere. But that also raises the question of if the monsters/weapons/powerups alone would be enough to make a level feel like a "Heretic level" versus a "Doom level". I'm thinking so.
I'm mostly just thinking out
loudin type as I plan out my sequel to SoTNR. -
I remember playing a heretic mod, that would make it so I could have heretic classes, weapons and powerups in traditional doom maps... felt pretty heretic to me...
Also, atmosphere has a lot to do with gameplay as well. Other than that, as long as you don't throw players into a techbase, you should be good to go...
If heretic ever had gotten a sequal in the past quake era- it would have looked a lot like some of the quake maps I'm sure...

So, your creation has deeper roots which touch another universe? Damn, that's awesome.
