Yeah, I start school again today. I'm sitting at work right now waiting for just a bit 'till my first class starts. It doesn't feel like school should start yet, but it does. The atmosphere is definitely there since there's all these students running around again, but I feel as if there should be like one more week of winter break left.
I hope this quarter goes better than last quarter. I have one class less this time and I'm working one hour less. Last quarter, I just couldn't get into the mood of school 'till about the 7th or 8th week (out of 10 for us). And because of that, I ended up extra stressed and had to drop one of my classes. Of course, it ended up helping when I met Annie and had to help her out with C++ class.
So, off to class and time to see if it'll be a good quarter or not.-
I started school today too. For Math, I'm on the overflow list and I dunno if I'm doing all the paperwork right so I can stay in it. If it's one thing that school teaches you it's that beurocracy is gay.
Recording was cool. Most of the cool people in Recording I were in there, and we have a new professor who seems cool. Looks like he's having us do more paperwork, but it doesnt seem too hard. It was fucking cold, and since 90% of the campus is outside, there was a lot of freezing going on. My new coat kept me cool, but my hands and face were freezing. Also, I am very sick today. Just great that my first day back at school happens to be the first time I've gotten sick since Jr. High.

I've been working at improving my recording skills lately in terms of quality of sound. Recently I figured out that when I record stuff in a multi-track method, then EQ and work with each track seperately, it seems to sound better overall regardless of which speaker system I use at my house.
I'd like to get feedback as to how good it sounds in terms of audio quality. I think I've got it at a point where it sounds good, but I'm not totally sure.
So, here's my new song (not newest, but close. Like 2nd newest):
http://www.du.edu/~ahunt/annies_song_final_mix.mp3
If you're wondering what all was used, here's a list:
-Roland JV-1010 Synth Module with custom instrument patches
-Boss DR-202 Dr. Rhythm drum machine using a TR-909 kit for kick drum
-Behringer Eurorack MX 802A mixer
-CakeWalk Pro Audio 9
-GoldWave 5
-Acid 4.0
-Sound Blaster Audigy
So, no soft-synths. Just hardware synths. -
So like today's my birthday. I'm like 20 or something. Go me.

meh, I'm on a DDR kick this week or something. The other night I found out I'm quite good at Rhythm and Police on maniac. And this morning I almost passed Bag on maniac without any modifiers in StepMania. So this is for any DDR players out there.
What are your favorite DDR songs to play?
I personally like (all on maniac) Dream a Dream, Drop Out, Sakura, Rhythm and Police, Ecstasy, Matsuri Japan, Holic, and my all time favorite, Era. Oh, and the original mix of So Deep, which is not in any of the official Konami games.
The original, long version of DXY! (also not on any Konami game) is also really good just as a general song. 5 minutes of acid!-
Well I used to play a lot before I started on drummania :P I still play a few games when I have time tho. Bag is one of my fav in the arcade, it's a big crowd gatherer :P By looking at my current winamp playlist I'll list my favs. I only play maniac so I won't write it for all :
Exothic Ethnic (my all time fave), Sakura, Bag, Rythm and Police, So Deep, Tsugaru, Paranoia Survivor, Max300, Holic, Long version of Era (hard but doable), Mikeneko Rock, Across the Nightmare(oni), Afronova, AM3P(Love the beat), Be Lovin', Daikenkai, Stoic and Legend of Max(fun when I pass it, hate it when I fail)
Mmh long version of DXY ? Pm ? ;)

Well, I am now, finally, the extremely proud owner of a Neo-Geo and Fatal Fury Special. And next week, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special.

omg, I hate you, DJ Haruko!

Hehe, well it's snowing here in Colorado. At least it is here around Westminster/Broomfield/Northglenn. Not sure about the other areas of the state, although I'm sure there are plenty of places getting it. Around where I live, visibility's about two to three miles. The flakes are rather big, too.
But, I'm damned glad it's snowing. I love snow XD -
Yeah, it's me, TeamKill. I'm just using my techno/DJ name now.
Let's see if I can use this thread for something usefull...
Anyone hear of the whitestripes.com]White Stripes? My co-worker has been playing their song "Seven Nation Army" over and over at work and it's really gotten me hooked on them. -
Ok, so it took me .5 minutes to fall in love with Annie (girl in my C++ class) and 4 days to ask her out. That has to be a record for most people in here...

I feel a bit geeky. This was taken today during my "Can't wait till I get my laptop back from repairs to dual-boot it with DOS 6.2" time at work. And yes, this was taken in Windows XP, and no the Program Manager is not a background:
http://www.du.edu/~ahunt/newdesk.JPG -
I found out tonight (through her official website) that Utada Hikaru actually has had vinyl versions of her album out. While I'd specifically like to have "Deep River" on vinyl, I'm trying to find any vinyl of hers for sale. Any ideas where to look?
I tried amazon.co.jp already and they only have CDs and DVDs of her (and I already have three of her CDs). -
This is how sad my C++ class is. Here's hour 6th assignment:
In this lab exercise, you will write a program which will let the user
to manage her/his bank account. Initially the user has $10000.00 in her/his
account. Then the user will make some transactions (0 or more
transactions)
in her/his account.
You will write three functions whose prototype has been given. The three
functions are main, withdrawal and deposit.
From inside main, you will repeatedly ask the user if she/he wants to make
transactions (say, ask the user to enter 0 to exit the program or any +ve
integer to make a transaction). Then ask the user if she/he wants to
deposit
or withdraw money. Call deposit or withdrawal functions accordingly.
In function deposit, you will receive the total money the user has in her/his
account and the amount to be deposited. Make appropriate changes to total money
in user's account here.
In function withdrawal, you will receive the total money the user has in her/his
account and the amount to be withdrawn. Make appropriate changes to total money
in user's account here.
Do error checking, -ve amount can't be withdrawn or deposited.
PLEASE READ THE COMMENTS WRITTEN ABOVE withdrawal AND deposit FUNCTIONS
BEFORE YOU WRITE THE PROGRAM.
To top it off, in the program skeleton he made for us (lol!), he forced pass-by-reference variables into it (literally forced). It kind of made the program odd looking.
Given how easy it was, I modified it a little. It now has a functioning menu. I should have added a class, file i/o, account numbers, transaction histories, and other fun stuff. But, given that this lab (which is supposed to take a week at least to do) took me 15 minutes, I think I'll just turn it in. -
So I did.

heh, so a few weeks ago, some foregin exchange students from Japan came into our Japanese class to speak English with us (and for us to speak Japanese with them). In the process, I kinda asked one of the Japanese girls out.
So, today we're supposed to go out at 12:30 for lunch (She leaves Wednesday). Of course, in the e-mail she wrote, she included some Japanese. Japanese that I couldn't understand:
‰½‚©@‚ ‚Á‚½‚ç@‚ê‚ñ‚ç‚@‰º‚³‚¢B
Or for those w/o Japanese text, "Nanika attara renraku kudasai". Ok, I know "nanika" means "something" and that "Kudasai" means it's a sort of polite command (Please do this...). Couldn't find the other words in my book, so I went to Babelfish. Here's its translation:
When something it is, the ‚ê it is and others the ‚.
WTF? Hope it isn't too important, lol
EDIT: To see the hiragana/kanji, you'll have to change the encoding to Japanese (Auto-select). Right-click the page. -
So, just saw "Kill Bill" tonight. I, honestly, would like to see more violence (including violence that is more gruesome) in the next one.
Other than that, I thought it was a brilliant film. I'll have to get the DVD the day it comes out. I think I have a new favorite.
Your opinions?
And I wish I had a poll...with the options "Not violent enough, but liked it", "Not violent enough, didn't like it", "Violent enough, liked it", "Violent enough and liked it", "Haven't seen it yet", "You're insane for wanting more violence in that movie", "Kill Bill?"... -
Whew, finally! After about a year and a half of mappers-block, I'm finally getting back into the swing of things. Doom Builder, which I just tried out a few days ago, has greatly helped. Along with getting me much further in Kill E3M4 in about 1/9th the time it would have taken me before. I now expect Kill to be done by Christmas. Finally! I totally fell in love with this editor. I think it'll help with Hypomnesia
Other than that...I got a Live Journal now. livejournal.com/users/dj_haruko I'll use that for normal stuff, and the blogs here for Doom-related stuff, I guess.-
I really hate it when that happens. Usually, it happens when I'm starting a map. Many times I'd try one idea, then delete it when I find that it looks terrible, then another, etc. Once I get the map going, I have little to no trouble in finishing it, although there are times when I can't think of anything good to put in a certain area.

It's been a somewhat busy weekend this time 'round. Saturday was spent driving my grandpa to Home Depot, followed immediately with me driving my mom to the same place. I hate when I have to do stuff like that...and then of course at dinner time, when I went to go pick dinner up, I end up breaking the tip of my key off in my car door.
Today was better, but still busy. Had two trips over to Home Depot again, got my key out of my door, mowed the lawn, and fixed a toilet.
But, the weekend wasn't all bad. Saturday I e-mailed a Japanese girl who's a foregin exchange student attending my school. I'm hoping she e-mails back soon...I'm wondering if she accepts my offer to take her out to eat.
And tonight I watched "Gojira tai Megaguirasu", aka "Godzilla vs. Megaguiras". It's one of the two subtitled Godzilla movies I received this week, and is one that hasn't been released (afaik) here in the US yet. And damn is it good! It has an EXCELLENT fight at the end, one that really kept me glued. And the acting isn't all that bad, either. The lead actress was also pretty cute. And what's really amazing is that this was Masaaki Tezuka's first movie that he directed...that's simply amazing!
My only complaint is that...satellites don't fall out of orbit because they run out of fuel, lol -

Fall's definitely arrived here in Colorado. Today was the first day I could smell it. It's strange when you walk outside and can actually smell a season. But, I'm glad it's here. Fall and winter are my favorite seasons. Since it's colder, all the more reason to snuggle with girls (one of my personal favorite things to do).
Today I went and did some DDR yet again. I passed Max 300 on trick for the first time, as well as Tsugaru on maniac with a B. I don't even want to play DDR again for at least a few days now. My legs can't take it.
I also think the world will end soon. I got a phone number and e-mail from a Japanese foregin exchange student. She actually wants to meet me outside of classes to listen to JPop. And then, the girl I realy like in C++ class actually came up to me after class, started a conversation, and walked me back to work (which is on-campus). All this in just two days... -
So, today was my first day back to school. Two classes today, Japanese and Intro to Computer Programming (which covers basic C++). Japanese was awesome, as always. We're covering the casual forms of speech, which is cool. I think it'll be a good class.
The programming class is going to be overly easy. So easy that the teacher already excused me from attending the labs for the class (I'm e-mailed the assignments). So, this will be cool. Besides, there's a really pretty, friendly, Swiss girl in the class :)
Tomorrow I have Japanese again, and then two new classes. One is Gender Changes in Chinese Society, which deals with changing gender roles. The other is a class on Egypt.
This is going to be a cool quarter.-

I was worried there for a second. Tonight, I took TopologiLinux off my new Alienware, added a new parition, and setup a dual-boot between WindowsXP and RedHat Linux 8. I was doing good...'till I decided to add NTFS file support and recompile my kernel.
Somehow, my bootloader was changed from Grub (which worked fine) to Lilo (which was a bitch). I've spent the past hour trying to figure this out. Each time I went to boot into Windows, it wouldn't find it. Why? Lilo couldn't read past cylinder 1024. How did I fix it? I added one line to the lilo.conf:
lba32
This fixed everything. Haven't gotten back into Grub (which even looked better), but at least it boots now.
Whew...now I can go get a good 4 hours sleep before my first day of school. -
So, lets see what my weekend so far has consisted of...
Friday night, I went to see Yoichi Watanabe again (the taiko drummer). This time, he did less of a demonstration and more of a concert, which he played with the Denver Taiko. The music was outstanding and breathtaking. I'm finding that I really love taiko music. The demonstrations he put on were also really cool. He actually played various other, non-taiko styles on them. This included rhumba, samba, African-style music, and one other style which escapes me at the moment. Overall, it was a very good concert.
Also, Thursday I went and bought Soul Calibur 2 for XBox. It's a good game, though I prefer DC's SC1 over it. Still, it will keep me entertained for a while.
Today, I went and did DDR with my friends Josh and Chuck at a place called Fat City. Today's achievments include Sakura on Trick, Healing Vision Angelic Mix on Trick, Max300 on Trick, nearly passing Sakura on Maniac (I have no endurance...and this was the last song i had tried), almost passing Matsuri Japan on maniac again (once again, endurance problems), and a few other cool things. 8th Mix is fun. Very fun.
Tonight...I just installed a 2nd CD-Burner on my new Alienware, so I'll copy some CDs to back them up. I also plan on showing a few episodes of Serial Experiments Lain to my mom, hehe. And record some things. -
So, here's the specs:
Alienware
P4 3.2gHz
800mHz FSB
1gig RAM
80 Gig HD (I have a 120gig already)
Sound Blaster Audigy2 5.1
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb
10/100/1000 Intel NIC card
Like 6 or 8 USB 2.0 ports
WinXP (I loaded Linux on it last night. Dual-boot).
DVD/CD-RW
Black case w/blue lighting
Yep. That's my new baby. The new baby that works great, except it doesn't like my DSL modem. Yet. -
Given that I haven't touched C++ in quite a while, have only used the Borland IDE (like 5.2, I think), and have only had one class (a highschool introductory class at that), this may seem like quite a stupid qustion. But, i admit, I'm a n00b at C++.
When I used Borland, there were two header files known as dos.h and conio.h (also one called constrea.h, but that was conio and iostream put together, iirc). In these two headers were two functions, sleep() and clrscr(), respectivly. Now that I'm using the KDevelop IDE in Linux, where can I either:
1. Find these header files and get them to work.
2. Find equivilant functions
The header files in my C++ include directory are v3.2.2, it seems. Conio isn't in there. i do have stdlib, stdio, and all the ANSI ones, though. As well as a ton of C libraries. -
Last weekend, I kinda had an unfortunate event happen with my DDR pad (or, if you prefer, you may read that line: "Andrew can't bridge a DDR pad worth crap"). So, since it would no longer work, I had to go buy a new one. I went over and got a Mad Catz pad instead, and so far I like it better. However, since I had to trash my old pad, and the vinyl covering holding it in place on the ply wood, I no longer have a hard pad. So, I guess I need to go get some more plywood (larger, this time), more vinyl covering, some foam (since the plywood, I found out, was shredding my pad), some tape, and some ice cream (for afterwards).
Even if I am using a soft pad, which I normally am horribe with, I was able to get some real good practice in with Paranoia Rebirth (190bpm) on maniac. I can nearly pass it with a C, now that I've figured out a few tricks on the song, like the foot switch around measure 30. I expect to pass it, at full speed, within a few weeks.
Also, got WarCraft II Battle.net Edition and C&C Renegade. WC2 BNE is great! I've been playing a little online, using a few StarCraft strategies. So far my record is like 3-0-0 or 4-0-0. Soon...those will increase :)
Speaking of StarCraft, I'm defintely getting better at that game on Battle.net. I've been playing $$$Fastest Map Possible V5$$$ a lot, and find it very enjoying. My friend Viet (who goes by likuid_killer or likuid_kid on Bnet) has been working with me, teaching me stuff.
Btw, I'm known as "Misato_K" on Bnet.
Renegade is also a pretty cool game. Runs just a tad bit sluggish on my computer, but I think it's mainly due to a bad CD-Rom, messed up chip somewhere inside, and the fact that it's on a firewire HD. As soon as I get my new Alienware, however (which will be Tuesday!), I'll definitely be playing this one more. Graphics aren't too good, and it pisses me off that I can't assign "attack" to ctrl, but oh well.
Also, why is it that when I start trying to loose weight by eating less, excercising (lots of DDR), and drinking less pop, I gain five pounds rather than loose five?
