Actually, it's funny: I use DoomBuilder and DeePsea (an older version, 11.76, but it has what I want). I've also been experimenting with WadC, but judging from the responses garnered here I'd say that WadC isn't all that popular. :(

Just one: Room 101 And that was just a bugfix I uploaded of an old level by somebody else. :(

Well, I'm sure our technology can make homosexual couples able to reproduce. The only problem is that gay men would need a host mother...

Actually, this is true. Take religion out of it and look at it logically: Unprotected sex is how STDs are transmitted. Protected sex has a failure rate. NOT having sex is the only way to be absolutely sure that you won't catch an STD. Well, not absolute, as stranger things have happened, but certainly a lower rate than the failure rate of condoms and their ilk. So if you think about it, this statement is true. Again, the only reason most people have a problem with abstinence is that it has religious connotations, and/or they live their life without regards for consequences.

First, this map is slopey. Really slopey. Since it started life as a demo wad, I can understand that. Now, architecturally speaking, I find the "rock windows" very odd. They don't look bad, they just don't make sense to me. Then again, it's not like Doom is supposed to make sense... So overall, they look good, so what the hey. The "pit" with the shotgun in the beginning looks very good, but in practice I found it difficult to actually retrieve the weapon. Also, the horizonally-split doors are very attractive, but they cut off demons (and others) from persuing you. I found it fairly difficult on the medium setting, but I'm no expert player.

Well, I didn't even know this pointer even existed! So what can I say, I certainly found this thread useful. {edit} This also proves that posting a thread on irc is potentially hazardous. And funny. {/edit}

Well, some of us aren't gifted with artistic ability. For example, if I wanted to make my own textures, they would come out like something a rabid three-year-old did with blunt crayons on wax paper. Not exactly something I'd relish putting into a wad. What would I be trying to prove, anyway? That I'm so "1337" that I can make my own textures? If the overall quality of my map suffers, I'd say being "1337" just isn't worth it. Just a thought.

I'm sorry to hear that, Quasar. But at least the engine is a good one, eh? :)

:) You're welcome, Quasar. Makes me feel like part of the team. Just call me 'Mr. QA'. I am upset you took out Fragglescript, though, after I had printed out and read every single line of the editing documents to catch one little nit. *sigh* I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Anyway, keep up the killer work, Q. Gio

In order to test the level header lump, I made a small .txt file ============ [level info] levelname = chadders' lair partime = 200 ============ Well when I loaded the level (e1m1 clone), everything looked fine. I pulled down the console and checked the automap, level's name was chadders' lair. So far so good. I ran through the level without killing anything, and at the end, there was no par time listed. "How odd," I thought. Well, I started the second level, and eventually I fired my pistol and the graphic was displaced to the left up to the midway point of the screen (the muzzle flash was hanging by itself in the middle). Anybody else noticed this? Gio NB: I have been unable to replicate the error with the pistol, so I think that was a temporary glitch unrelated to the header. Odd, though. The adjusted par time still doesn't show up at the end of the level, however.

In order: Eternity: My favorite port for Doom, Doom 2, Evilution, Plutonia, Icarus, and Eternal. I haven't spotted anybody making maps for it, unfortunately. Still, I have a good MBF level I use with it. ZDoom: My former favorite port, still rides high in my opinion. I mainly use it for custom wads, Heretic (YEAH!), and Hexen. Legacy: I rarely use it, except for wads requiring it. I always keep my eyes open (thanks for the heads up on Nimrod!) for good wads. Still, it's not bad, and it offers unique editing options, which is what I look for. EDGE: From what I hear, a really powerful editing engine. Haven't found any wads for it yet, though. :( Vavoom: I haven't touched this one as I'm looking for wads for it still. Gio NB: If anybody wants to give me a heads-up on any levels they've done for these, drop me an email, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm currently working on a Hissy clone. :) Gio

Hi folks. I'm working on a level for Eternity, and up 'til now I haven't had too much trouble integrating Eternity features. Now the problem I ran into concerns the level header: Where is it? How can I change it? I'm using DeePsea (don't yell) to import the ascii lump "E1M1" and it just tells me that the name is "reserved". Ugh. As if I don't know what I'm doing... Wait, I don't. :P Anyway, any pointers would be nice. And if it's just DeePsea being a pain, well, I'll handle that end. Thanks everyone (anyone?). Gio

Well, I'm not too worried about that as I just use the Eternity docs and ignore whatever undefined sector/lines/whatever it gives me. And if the latest version of DeePsea still has this problem, I'll have to have a talk with the authors; they are very good about fixing things up for their users. In fact, I've pushed for them to support Eternity since Eternity's first public release. It's good they've made the attempt, at least. Also, DeePsea is really extendable; I can use the upcoming Small script compiler just by adding it as a user-defined tool. Gio

I *was* going to offer my help but after looking at Mordeth's map I think I'm a bit out of my league. Like back in Single-A. Whew. Gio

After downloading the Eternity Engine, I decided I needed some levels to test it out... and I can't find any. I've scourced the Ports directory of cdrom.com, and I've found only one level that actually uses MBF's features. If any of you folks out there have any or know of someplace that has MBF or SMMU levels, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Gio

Well, the level I found is called DrCrypt, and uses MBF's friendly flag as well as a DeHacked lump. DrCrypt could use a little touch-up work, but overall is a nice piece of level design. Currently, I'm stuck in a spot where an Archvile and two Revenants pop up from nowhere to attack you. Gio

Okay, I'm not asking which one is better, 'cause that'll just cause pointless headbutting... I'm asking what makes them different. As far as I can tell, they are pretty similar, except that the Eternity Engine has a much more solid base to expand from. Gio

Has anybody here tried making any Strife levels with DeePsea? As far as I can tell, it looks as complex as all hell. I've been looking at the lumps in the wad, and I think I've been able to identify what most of them are for. Even so, there seems to be a missing link between the speech lumps and the Things that say them. Not only that, but there seem to be missing speech lumps, which leads me to believe that there is some sort of secondary storage system, perhaps a scripting language. Anyway, if anybody has found out anything, I'd like to collaberate with them to get this thing figured out. Gio

I was wondering if any of you folks out there knew of a decent Strife level editor. Any info would be welcome, thanks. Gio
