I felt like an asshole for shooting my mouth off while only half-remembering The Room Taking Shape, so I replayed The Room Taking Shape, and really the only big reference in DLDSTRCT Map04 is "a big curving gallery late into the level," and the two levels' galleries look and play pretty differently! Maybe the music and the complevel just made the level feel more like TRTS than it actually did, but whatever the reason, I think you did a good job on this. I'm a sucker for waterfall secrets, and this one almost fooled me into thinking it was the intended route. I like the big fight in the starting area a lot.

No worries. At the same time, i knew what you were saying, i dont hold you accountable for anything (not that there is anything to be held accountable for). You're cool, don't worry about it :)

  2. "liked Map04 as a breather level before the punishment of Maps 05 and 06. It owes an awful lot to The Room Taking Shape from BTSX E1, and it probably should have used different music so it could read more as a homage and have more of a separate identity from its original. It's a lot of fun, though. It was nice to get close to the end of a level! But today was a laundry day, I had to change loads, and a half-hour is about as much as I like to spend recording an FDA anyway, so I chumped out before I could get the clear."

Nah, not changing the music since it's part of the joke and also serves as a a joke to the wad's name (the music is called "drilling by night" in a wad called "daylight district").

Also, yes, i own up to the fact that this is a direct reference to the map in question (in the map blurb, i call it "bootleg the room taking shape" but that was a silly joke).

But, i also think it has an identity of its own. The homage is more in the way it opens up etc...but that's about it. I did not obviously copy the layout heh.

Map 4 just settled for 58 % kills cause one area impossible to get to and wish there was a playthrough on yt

I'm guessing you mean the soulsphere area?

If so, there is defo a way to get there.

    Spoiler

Up the lift (in the sand area), go left instead of right, there is a waterfall you can pass through.

EDIT: Unless maybe, you meant map 3 which, indeed has a secret area with some monsters in it.

Great work as usual, Squonkers. Works as a lovely green counterpart to Moonlit District. Highlights for me this time around were The Place Building Itself (major BTSX energy) and Hacker, and I'll say that Hydropump caught me off guard with its significantly hotter start (and a moderately evil secret fight) compared to the previous two maps. Everyone delivered handily.

    Some minor bugs:
Map01: in the bottom left corner of the map, sector 394 with the single imp in it isn't tagged to pop-up like its sister sector 396, so the imp inside is unreachable.

Map03: looks like there's no proper sound propagation on this set of closets in the top left of the map, so they never wake up (the empty ones are multiplayer-only monsters)

Edit: forgot the obligatory ditzy playthrough demos, -dsdademo and play back on v.0.27.5 - daylightdistrict-maribo.zip

Haha thanks. Yeah, "the place building itself" is pretty much tesco value "the room taking shape" lmao

  5. Thank you very much for all the playthroughs and feedback :D

    Here is V2

    Sunshine V2

(now in a zip containing the single version and the DM version)

Nothing much has changed aside from adding some polish here and there. Map now has its correct name on the automap (and on the intermission screen).

Also, here is a UV-MAX of the map (for those interested):

  6. Hmm, let's see:

    - Finish and release mapset (that was a resolution for last year but, stuff happened)

    - Finish my contributions for other projects (one of which is done with 2 maps submitted actually, the last one today)

    - Play more stuff?

Anyhow, let's see how the year turns out :D

  7. Apparently, this is something I do alot (which is true). If I have a staircase and If I can do it, I'll make a "fade to black sector" to spruce up the stairs:

    YB02CRUTCH.PNG?rlkey=mhnlz6w4m9expc0mlfm

    YB04CRUTCH.PNG?rlkey=c1bh42rdqm1ovgdeps3

I dunno why. It's just something I like doing because, my mind thinks a plain staircase just doesn't look appealing to me anymore heh

I do it sparingly in vanilla too if i can get away with it. It's grossly simplified though (like 3 to 4 max splits of gradients).

  8. Im gonna be that guy but,"doom chuds"? Who is "us" in that sentence?

Personally, I dont see myself as a doom "chud" or, a chud whatsoever. Please dont call "us" that. Thank you

On the topic, im sure they will find someone that does the job just fine. Yes, it sucks that mick gordon probably wont be involved due to the disaster that happened during doom eternal's production but, at the same time, it was inevitable.
