    What are you playing now?

Ironically, some parts of Memento Mori can be broken in co-op - I tried playing MAP04 on ZDaemon and they added a multiplayer green pillar that will block the regular player path so you have to rely on other players to help each other out. At one point I spawned on the opposite side of a locked blue key door which made it impossible to complete, and spawning in front of said door wasn't helpful either, since I needed at least one other player to spawn on the same side as me to help me reach the blue key, and somebody else spawned on the other side of the same blue door. Same thing happened playing MAP12 on survival, and it came down to one last player that couldn't reach the exit because the regular lift switch was also blocked by a multiplayer thing, which meant you had to have at least one other player to activate another lift switch that makes it impossible to complete with one player, so the map was softlocked again. That said, some parts might feel a little odd in single-player, but I honestly wouldn't feel intimidated by it. Most of it really is a single-player experience, and I tend to prefer playing it this way unless you have plenty of other players running around with you which even then can get a little choked in some tighter areas of the maps (MAP17, for example). Thankfully Memento Mori II is a little more refined in both departments from what I remember, however it does take quite a bit more time to complete with much larger maps than the first, so that's something to keep in mind when playing the sequel.

    My thoughts on pistol starts

For future reference, I intend for everyone to play my maps however they please - on any difficulty, pistol-starting or continuously, with IDFA+IDDQD+mods or whatever else. Go crazy.

    My thoughts on pistol starts

I don't mind pistol-starting once in a while, but I do prefer treating map packs and megawads like a long hiking journey from MAP01 to MAP30. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the old Doom wads I enjoyed are looked down on for the same grievances brought up in the first post, but another part of it has to be some of the archaic progression of the map's designs. It might be that circumnavigating and remembering certain key landmarks has served me well in my experience playing a lot of these older map packs, so I haven't always had the same pitfalls that other players may have experienced. I also enjoy replaying a lot of my favorite wads, which can lead to "warming up" to certain other maps I wasn't so hot on the first time around. Pistol-starting is a nice way to mix things up further if the desire is there for an extra layer of challenge. It's funny - I think I've had the opposite experience where I feel at liberty to expend my ammunition at times, especially when starting the next map would have meant starting out with only 50 bullets, so I tend to consider whatever I have extra as bonus ammunition to get things rolling more quickly. It can also make things challenging when entering with less health than normal, but I like the trade-off of having some weapons to try and get a handle on the situation. I don't recall having a problem with this in my experience playing through Eviternity - it still takes a bit of time to pull out the BFG and fire it in some quick encounters or situations where you could end up surrounded by enemies like revenants punching you at close-range and you need to act more quickly to get out of it. I'd say they did a pretty good job of balancing everything on both fronts.
  6. Finally updated my map with some further difficulty balancing and some other small changes - the only minor thing is the exit area with the STEPTOP texture being used as a security gate now looks funky, but should be corrected when the next updated resource rolls around. I would appreciate any other feedback should there be any other oddities found in my map - everything should work as intended in chocolate Doom and other ports so far as I know! Just finished Community Chest for the first time yesterday and I thought MAP29 was a real banger.

This brings back memories of an old storage facility I used to visit in the mid-2000's. Cool stuff.

What sort of wads would you like to see?

I wanted to try my hand at making a Titan map as a tribute to Jim Flynn when he passed, but never got around to it. I did however create a space map that was heavily influenced from his style - MAP10: The Portal from Sargasso. It's a very large map with a lot of sequences and some tough monsters (the wad uses DeHackEd enemies) so definitely play with saves if you decide to check it out!
  13. I think I'm ready to post my map here - of course there are bound to be some changes certainly with the next updated resource, but it's practically finished. I also added a deathmatch area as bonus. Hopefully everything works just fine! >>>DOWNLOAD<<<
  14. A small request on my part: would it be possible to include TYWHEEL1?

Now it's come to this - reflecting on that Triplet II map of Reverie.

PS1 Doom Manual? (NOT Final Doom)

I don't know about the SNES manual - I only scanned the long box version of the PSX manual I have exactly as-is, front to back.

PS1 Doom Manual? (NOT Final Doom)

Good suggestion on the Internet Archive; I just finished uploading all the scans for the long box manual here: https://archive.org/details/doompsx020 Forgive me if the job is a bit shoddy in places; the manual's falling apart as it is, and I re-adjusted and cropped as I saw fit.
