    Happy Thanksgiving

Instead of spending money on shit you want, but don't need, spend some time with your loved ones. Or your unloved ones, even. This time next year, they may not be here. Take time to reflect on the fact that what you want is not necessarily what you need, and what you need isn't always what you want. Be grateful for what you have - there are plenty of those in this world that don't have even the bare essentials. That is all. Happy Thanksgiving :)

    Happy Thanksgiving

Didn't say you HAD to :) It was meant as a suggestion.

    Nuggets - a short film

I am not certain how many of you have viewed this short film, but for those of you who have not, I encourage you to do so. For me, it was pretty moving. For those of you who might be struggling with an addiction, or addictions, this cartoon will definitely resonate with you.

    Wes Craven has died
  6. I am so totally playing the hell (no pun intended) out of this when it's released. The screens are, like, awesome and shit.

    Looking back on DNF

Honestly, I never played DNF and really and truly I don't want to.

    Favorite Megawad LEVEL?

I love the first map of Sunder. Also map09 from Slaughterfest 2011 is badass.

    keyparty.wad -- v2

    Needs more keys.
  11. I beat the Cyberdemon in E2M8 Tyson style. However, I was playing in ZDoom, as usual, and had sv_fastweapons 2 enabled.

    Quake the way ID did?

Really? I always thought it was pretty well done, but that's my opinion. I prefer Quake 2 over Quake 1 any day.

    Favorite MAP01

E1M1 for me. It's quite literally where it all began and it's just a fun map to play.

Do you think pinkies are cute?

Same here. The Doom64 Pinkie Demons are too evil and badass looking to be considered cute.

Things to do in Doom when you're bored

One thing I like to do in Doom when I'm bored of playing the game as it's intended is this: I create a warzone. I should also mention I play exclusively with ZDoom, just so you know. I have Notarget bound to O and Freeze bound to P. So if, for example, I'm playing map 2 of Slaughterfest 2011 and I want to create a warzone, I simply hit O for Notarget, P to freeze the game, and then go to a spot in the map where there's enough room for spawned enemies and then I bring down the console and type, say, summon Cyberdemon. Hit up and Enter (hitting up in the console shows the last thing you typed in) a few times. I then put in the following cheats in the console if I haven't already: noclip, god, give weapons, fly, and sometimes a turbo cheat, like turbo 125 for example. Then I hit P to unfreeze the game and O to turn off Notarget. I like to hide inside the level's geometry (like pillars or walls) where I can view the action and not get assaulted. Once everyone gets riled up and begins attacking each other I'll pop in and out of the map to ramp up the bloodshed. It's always great fun to see hordes of demons slaughtering each other. If I feel like prolonging the mayhem I freeze the game and bring down the console and type summon archvile and hit up and Enter over and over until I'm sure there's an army of archviles. Then I unfreeze and turn off Notarget just long enough for the Archies to notice my presence, then immediately hit P. Then I go back to my hiding spot and unfreeze and watch the archies do their thing. When I feel like enough enemies have resurrected I'll pop in and out of my hiding spot to rile the gang up again :) I know it sounds silly but it's actually entertaining. I've seen pretty titanic struggles where it was Cybers vs Mancubi, Hellknights vs Revenants, Arachnotrons vs Cacodemons and Pain Elementals. Try it some time :)

    Alternate Names For Monsters

When I first played Doom on the PSX I didn't know what the enemies were called. I called the Imp the brown dude, I called the Mancubus the fat dude, I called the Cyberdemon the really big dude that shot rockets at you. I never really thought about it when I first played Doom on the PSX.

    Community Chest 5

Another Community Chest megawad? Hell yes! I'm all about it.
  20. A quarter century ago today, one of our species's most famous, and no doubt most humbling, photographs was taken by the Voyager 1 spacecraft as it was rocketing out of the solar system. Your thoughts on this milestone?

    Old Doom: Comparative first impressions?

I first played Doom on the PSX back in '96 I think it was. Anyway, the sound and music and the overall horror atmosphere really made an impact on me. That and it was really fun and engrossing. It grabbed ahold of my thirteen year old self and didn't let go. It never has, actually - I'm still playing Doom nearly two decades later :) I don't think I've played another game that did to me what PSX Doom did to me at that time.

    Sunlust [on /idgames]

Pfffft, bring on UV all day and I'll not go to lower difficulties - it's always UV or not at all for me, no matter what Doom or Doom2 map(s) I'm playing :) I must say, this looks intriguing. As longs as the sheer volume of monsters and detail don't make my computer slow to a crawl, I'm good.
  23. The earliest memory I have of Doom, to the best of my recollection, is seeing a review of PSX Doom in a December '95 issue of GameFan - and it was very positive. Needless to say, I was intrigued.

Old DOOM Ads / id-related imagery

I remember seeing the Final Doom ad in several of my 1996-era Ultra Game Players magazines. The other two I don't remember though.

    Plutonia: really well done

Am I the only one who thinks that, especially given their age at this point (eighteen years) that the levels of The Plutonia Experiment were really well done? Yeah, they're not easy, especially on UV (for me at least) but they definitely have their own look and style and for levels nearly two decades old they still hold their own really well, I always thought.
