  1. I actually use the PSX/DOOM64 music too as default. When I play with Midi It's all good too since I just load up a 200mb sound font which makes the music sound awesome. I do of course play Doom on my 233:MMX rig to get that nostalgic Doom felling from time to time. Thats less often now days though. Going back to the original question, yes I do play Id Tech1 games with music. unless I'm actualy mapping, but anything else (fan made wads or original) I just have the wad music switched on.
  2. That doen't even look like Doom, and It's beautiful.

    a slight confession to make

Judging from the date it was uploaded, he didn't have a retail version of Fraps or any of the free later image capture software. Not to mention alot of the free ones wont record sound directly from the PC unles you have a sound card that supports it.

    a slight confession to make

Heretic! Honest though, I don't think anyone cares, and when I say that I don't mean that in a bad way =p Hacks are fine imo. if you were distributing ROM images then that would be something different, atleast for me. then you would earn a

    Some Old PC Help

Ah yes. I went back to check the old rig I made the floppys with (not the 286) and sure enough it was a Windows based OS in it. I must have confused it with HDD's. So yeah it only allowed FAT formating. I can't remember how it really was, but I bet it was something with bad floppys like Maes just said.

Can you force Doom3 to load in a non-standard rez?

He said he used to have nVidia gpu's. The 5770 is a Radeon gpu =) Whit the settings he wants it would be crazy to run Doom3 on an old Geforce FX. Anyway, what Kristus just posted should do the trick. If you still get problems try updating to the last patch (if you alrady havent that is =)

    Some Old PC Help

keep in mind that you have to format the floppy with the type "FAT". When I was messing around with my old 286 a couple of years ago it told me the same error with corrupt fiels because it was formated with NTFS.

    Some Old PC Help

Some times old drives still read what they have "in" them. even though they won't pop out when you press the eject button. If you look at the front of the CD drive, check for a small tiny hole. something like the size of a pen pinnacle. If you press it with a needle or something that is the same size as the hole (while the PC is on, and you know it's getting power) it should eject a few cm out, then you should pull it out enough to put a CD in to it. Just keep in mind that you need to have "what ever you press it out with" to be straight! some old drives have nothing to keep them in place when you press in to it and they will just go anywhere since it's just a small hole in the front case. Best thing to do here is to just get a 3.5 floppy and make a boot-disk of whatever OS it's using. there should be a CD boot-up option even in DOS-Shell
  11. I think this thread would suit best for one of those hell holes like Gamegfaqs. even so I find this thread hilarious. This thread just keeps going.

    Work stories

Can't say I haven't been through dumbasses ... Mostly because I was the "the" dumb ass When my boss fell asleep once in my old job (he is a heavy sleeper) I drew a villein mustasch on him with eyebrows like The rock in the Doom wold banner ... with a magic marker =p I lost my job one week later.

  14. And it sucked hard. I still have that game.

    Port 666 reserved for Doom?

Yeah most modems/routers have the same, check your router settings page. At least my Netgear and D-Link ones had it.

    The Dark Spire

You should give it another try, It's hard at first, but once you get the hang of it you will have fun. In my opinion you will get a heck of a good feeling if you manage to solve a puzzle without getting help. The one puzzle that got me stuck for a long time was the damn orb puzzle in the 6th floor. Anyway, I like the Boos battle theme too. Wish it could have lasted longer though, since it's a matter of who kill's who faster. Take your time in a boss battle and your party will be annihilated. [EDIT] the first 2 floors are actually the ones that take the longest time to figure out (counting the basement too)

    The Dark Spire

I've been playing it every now and then since it's release and damn this thing is hard. not so much the actual grind that comes with games like this, but the puzzles are really sadistic at times. I'm loving it though and the game has 2 modes you can play it in (retro and normal). The retro mode turns the game in to a NES like game complete with music and visuals which you can change on the fly from the settings menu. The over-all art and music is pretty nice too. heh, anyone else tried it? or would just like to talk about other games like this (such as Eye of the Beholder and so on) So any other fans of dungeon crawlers here? =)

Some really awesome doom pics - NOT MINE

That person knows how to detail, I like the art with the person riping his face off. Reminds me of The Mask comics
  19. Now that I think about it, yeah, that's one of the things that scared the hell out of me, I never found AV's to be as scary the first time you saw them as a Revenant. the Revenant scream is something I find stressing even today when I play a Doom wad. I honestly hate Revenants, mostly because of the damn sound effect. This is going out of maps, but the Baron of hell and Revenants scared the hell out of me the first time I heard them. (Epic fight the first time I finished the Sharware version of Doom) Like the Icon of Sin sound effect I posted earlier, It's just the actual sound effect that creeped me out out.
  20. I haven't played it yet, but try uploading it to yousendit.com for 100 downloads. (seven days limit of the file) I'm sure some one else can come up with a better host, but that's the one I've been using for a while. =)
  21. *face palm* I don't know how in the hell I missed that, but thanks for the post. *shakes head* I'll try it out once I'm home.
  22. what WAD do I need for this? (guessing Final Doom, but thought I should ask anyway) I haven't played it yet due to the fact that I saw missing textures at the start and stopped only because I would like to play the map with the textures =) (fyi, I don't have Final Doom in this rig)

    The Dark Spire

hehe. The basement theme is actually my favorite track in the game. =) I like the 4th floor theme too, the story events in that floor go hand in hand with the music. (pretty messed up floor) You should give it a try, though be warned, it's pretty brutal at times.
  24. None that I can think of, it was only later in Doom64 that I was a bit jumpy tanks to the music and atmosphere and *bam!* a specter bit me to death, can't remember the map though. as for the original games, the only places that gave me a scare was when the Icon of sin started talking. I sooooo did not expect that.

    Wizardry

I've only played Wizardry IV back on the Super Nintendo, found it to be a fun game. I'm more familiar with the Eye of the Beholder series though.
