  1. Okay, so I have this weird problem that makes no sense to me. The player fights some Spider Masterminds, and then teleports into a completely different room. In that room, there are three barons of hell that are turning their backs on the player AND they are set to "deaf". But as soon as the player appears in the teleported room, the are alerted, DESPITE having their backs on the player. However, this only happens if you make a noise before teleporting. If you somehow ignore the spider demons and proceed to the teleport, you can teleport to the other room with the barons, and they won't see you. It makes no sense, since, first of all all barons are set to "deaf", second of all there is no straight line of sight from the spider demon room to the barons room, and third of all, this happens EVEN when there are 0-height sectors inbetween that SHOULD be blocking all sound! WTF? I have a video showing the problem here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mr2e5dKS04 Can somebody tell me what went wrong?
  2. Are you often thinking to yourself "Hmm, I feel inspired! Maybe I should make a map!" and then shortly afterwards "But... I can't make a good map until I invest several hours, maybe even days into it... ahhh... nevermind, I don't have the time"? Then you're just like me. And that's why I got an idea for a fun challenge, that doesn't set your expectations too high. 30-minute challenge! Here are the rules 1. Open up doom builder, and type in the necessary stuff to get started in the options-box 2. Start a timer of 30 minutes. You are allowed to take breaks (for bathroom purposes etc.) by stopping the timer, but NO doom building while the timer is stopped! 3. BUILD! 4. Once the timer reaches 0 here's what you're allowed to do - If you are in 3D mode, exit immediately - If you are adding things, stop adding immediately - Finish the sector you are currently making - Press "fix missing textures" if textures are missing - Add a start and an exit button/walkover if you have not yet done so (but NO more sectors or lines to be made!) - Give lines and sectors door-functions, but ONLY if the map is literally impossible to finish because openable door functions are missing. 5. Return to this thread, and make sure you give at least some feedback or attention to the previous poster, before posting your attempt ;) 6. Post screenshots here in this thread 7. Post download link here in this thread 8. Don't forget to tell us something about your map and the process of making it 9. Post video gameplay of your map here in this thread (optional) . . . . . Here's my attempt! Download link to my map http://www.mediafire.com/file/px64mucfosnnkl2/30_minutes.wad/file I knew 30 minutes wasn't a lot of time for details. So I mainly focussed on making the starting room somewhat detailed, and then making sure that it was the center of the map, like the "main area". I thought this was a great way to deal with the short amount of time I had. It's a simple map, with the objective of getting the blue key, so you can walk through that door in the beginning and finish the map. After about 20 minutes, I was finished with most of the sectors, and then I started adding things and functions. All weapons including berserk can also be found in this map. As I had only around 1 minute left, I completely forgot about ammunition, and so I quick added as many backpacks as I could before the time ran out. Overall, I am pretty satisfied. Not a big fan of the simple grey walls I added all over, but oh well... I only had 30 minutes... :P

Hogwards.wad - Anyone interested in taking over?

Exactly XD Call it a nazi-version of Hogwards, haha! ...In lack of paintings to choose from XD
  4. I remember playing the Harry Potter video game for PlayStation 1 back in the day. And I still remember the nostalgia of the mystical and magical halls and corridors of hogwards. So I got inspired to make a hogwards map in Doom Builder... I mean, it goes perfectly well with doom! You'll have this mystical school to walk around in, where painting can turn into secret doors of good stuff like health, ammo and armor. Monsters that throw spells at you (like fireballs) and even teleporting, which is also pretty magical. Even some textures in doom goes very well with this theme! So I began... But as I progressed, I realized it would be too big of a project for me to have the time to do it. I really don't want to spare the details in this one. Hogwards deserves a lot of effort, so I got the idea, that someone might be interested in taking over, and continue working on the project. Here's some screenshots, and a video that shows some gameplay: Watch some gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wonleO6mjQ4 The map is supposed to be played in gzdoom using the command "turbo 45". I find that standard doom running makes everything silly to play... So... Who would be interested in taking over? Maybe we can do a collabaration, where we finish working on one room each, then share the updated download link with each other, and another person takes over, etc... Until we have a full map Download link provided for the wad Hogwards.rar

Just watched your demo, and you're absolutely right XD You are NOT allowed to use mouse look, otherwise it's way too easy! Come on, try again with mouselook off XD Wow, looks nice! Let me try it, then I send you a demo! Aaaand here it is! I recorded it at first, but then made a mistake, and accidentally recorded a new demo with the same name, so that it got replaced. Before this demo, I had a few tries where I failed. Here's my demo though, and it includes a bonus after winning your map! I have to say, this is one of my favorite maps in this thread! Holy shit, did you really make this in only 30 minutes? It's really clever, and a really nice town-feel! I don't know what the blue key is meant for though... I finished the level without grabbing it... I also liked how there was plenty of ammo for the chaingun, but no ammo around for the super shotgun, so it was the gun to use only when you really needed it towndemo.rar

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

Your wad is not horrible in my opinion, considering you had only 30 minutes to make it. The standards are different within that time... The idea was cool, and the design was nice too. Maybe a little health would improve it... But apart from that, the only way to improve it, would be breaking the 30 minutes time-span, by adding more rooms, details, and light adjustments, so... About my map "Icon of Data", you need to investigate the map a little more before concluding it to be unbeatable :P The edges were lifts, and on the ground outside, you'd find ammo, health and a button to press that lowers the platform in the middle, with a rocket launcher on. Try again, and see for yourself! (Maybe record a demo?) :-)

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

As usual, I made the design of the map in around 30 minutes, but then I spent at least 30 minutes more testing... changing things up and such... But here's another one from me! "Icon of Data" Techbase version of Icon of Sin John Romero is not an evil demon anymore... He is an evil computer. "retupmoc siht toohs tsum uoy emag siht niw oT" Good luck. This one is VERY difficult! You have to have some serious aiming skills. If you fall off the platform without shooting two successful rockets at once, you are almost certain to die the second time you try. It took me a long time to finish my own level, but I eventually managed to. I hope someone will try this, and record a demo of their attempt! Icon of Data.rar

SO GUYS ... I am really overwhelmed by how many entries this topic has! You guys are so awesome! But remember not only to post your own map, but also give some attention and feedback to the previous posters. I admit I am guilty of doing that too, but we should try to remind each other also to give each other some more attention and feedback. Otherwise, posting your map here will become pointless, because people are too busy focusing on their own maps... Another suggestion: How about we gather all these contributions into a Megawad with 31 levels? Anyone up for this idea?

Wow, dude that's impressive! I love how you posted a gameplay video. Usually (at least for me) I am too lazy to start downloading and trying the maps, so watching a gameplay video, worked really well for me!

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

Try my map "Downfall"! I didn't make this in 30 minutes... I spent more time on it, I admit. But after 30 minutes, the basic map was made. Then since, I have been adding some stuff to improve it, and make it enjoyable to play. It's a simple concept. You're on a platform that is being lowered. As you go, enemies will appear from rooms appearing on your way down. If you're smart, you might even be able to enter those rooms and grab some good stuff. Later in the map, you will be left with a choice: Red teleport or silver teleport? Good luck ;-) Downfall.rar

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

Here's my demo of me playing your map. (gzdoom) I have to admit, I gave up... So I eventually cheated using IDDQD and fast weapons. I barely made it through the opening room with the two revenant. Usually, when I made it, I would have 30% life left. Then opening another door, and here comes another challenge even harder... And no medikits! I don't know how you're supposed to beat that level, but I am not the one to do it, haha! However I really like the design and idea of this map! The rooms just need to be bigger, and maybe include a bit of health, so it becomes beatable. A rocket launcher wouldn't be a bad idea for the map either, if the rooms were bigger GUTMAP.rar

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

No, I was assuming it was the level my map replaced xD So I took the chance and went with that. I confess that :P What's a complevel? From what I have just read, I am still a bit confused, but I didn't use any advanced effects or anything. It works fine with gzdoom, and I am sure it also does with prdoom if you give it a try. There should be no issues

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

So guys, this is a puzzle with only one solution! (read the conditions too before playing!) I made this in 30 minutes, then I tested it, and spent around 15 minutes correcting mistakes and doing the finishing touches to the challenge. You have to find a way to finish this map, and use your logic. You have 8 rockets... and a mystery to solve... Can you make it? Send me your demo, and make sure you record from the moment you first enter my map, so I can see how many tries it took you! Good luck ;-) Conditions: 1. Must be played on Hurt me Plenty difficulty 2. You must kill all monsters before exiting the level 3. You are only allowed to fire one bullet from your pistol 4. Use of fist is not allowed 5. Monster in-fight is not allowed 8 rockets.rar

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

Nice to watch you play my demo! But you missed an important part of the gameplay! You were supposed to shoot the plasma rifle while running down the long hall until you'd be teleported up ahead, to see all your plasma-balls hit the zombiemen. That's why you were not supposed to turn or move your crosshair after teleporting

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

Alright, so this map took me 29 minutes to make It's an alternative kind of style that I often do when I just feel like having fun and messing around in doom builder. Kind of a puzzle, rather than a normal map. You have to use specific techniques to win. First you have to get help from the arachnotrons to kill the spider mastermind. Then you have to run towards the arachnotrons without being struck, until you get teleported to another room (It is VERY IMPORTANT not to move your mouse/player at all after teleporting!) Run forward without turning or anything. ONLY forward. You'll grab the plasma gun. Now while running forward, hold down the fire button, right until you see a little red square on the floor, then you have to let go of the fire button. Next... you have a nice oddly satisfying surprise waiting for you. Just have patience ;-) challenge.rar

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

Very interesting approach! I liked the start where you HAD to take out the shotgunners as fast as possible, and kind of guess when they were all dead, so you could move out to the dark area, and grab those medikits. Then came the pit-challenge. I really hated that pit! I fell in it several times, and I was just dead and had to start over... And then the cyberdemon. Quite difficult too, but still possible. The worst thing was the pit though! I really like the idea of having these small "challenges" that you progress through. There was the darkness-soldier challenge. The pit challenge. And the cyberdemon challenge. I recorded myself playing your map using this demo. Enjoy! youbetteralsotrymymap.rar

Alright everyone, this is my second attempt at the 30-minute mapping challenge! Less rooms this time. More work on adding fun parts and mini-challenges. A lot of walls are misaligned, and I forgot to change some textures, but that's what happens when you have so little time! Here are some screenshots, and the download link. Have fun, and tell me what you think ;-) A demo-playthrough of my map would be fun to watch, if anyone would mind ;D MySecondAttempt.rar

I attached a demo of me trying your map. I died the first time pretty fast because I didn't realize what would happen after shooting the switch! Watch me struggle and have fun, hehe... I used gzdoom.exe to play it. So drag the file into your directory. Play your map using gzdoom, then type in the commands "playdemo alrightletmetry" alrightletmetry.rar

I tried playing your map but it failed. Instead it just loaded up the regular map01 from doom2. I tried using ultimate doom. Just the regular E1M1... Was this map designed for a specific map (eg. MAP09)?

I just happened to figure that out just in time before you replied ;D It worked... Thank you. And @rdwpa it was fun to watch you play my map, and trying to kill the Baron using every possible weapon available at the end :P You missed the invisibility powerup though... but it was useless anyways, since all monsters were dead

You have 30 minutes to make a map - post your results!

I don't understand anything. I downloaded the zip file with prboom, and extracted everything to my regular doom folder. Then I dragged the .lmp file to prboom-plus.exe. It loads up, and the demo starts, except that the demo-movements are done in MAP01 of Doom 2 instead of my map. And so, from previous experience, I create a shortcut of the .exe file, and in that shortcut, I add "-file 30minutes.wad" at the end of the field "destination". And I try again by dragging the .lmp file into the .exe shortcut. Now it loads up a regular intro screen. Nothing more happens. When I choose new game, my own map plays, and I can move the player normally. But there's not a sight of any demo... Shit man... How do I do this?
