    I have too little knowledge myself as well to give you any advice on your maps, but if I were you I'd start with new ones so that you can see in one year time how much you've grown in map making by comparing these maps with your newest maps, which is really super-cool!!

    Here's what I'd like to have in my mod: I've downloaded a couple of weapons from Realm667 I'd like to use (the BFG10K / Karasawa / Flamethrower). The first one will be on the same weaponslot as the normal BFG, but I want to have the second and third on new weaponslots (8 and 9). I've configured this in the decorate files and it works, but what I'd like here is to have these listed in the status bar as well (just like with weapons 2 to 7; it gives you an overview what weapons you have in the middle and how much ammo you've got on the right). Is this even possible? And if so, how do I configure this? Thanks in advance of course! ps. I use Doombuilder 2 (Zdoom - Doom in Doom format) and Slade 3

    Got it! Except that the new weapon ammo information doesn't quite fit on the right side...I've already tried putting the text up higher, but weapon 9 information is half missing. How can I make the text (ammo information) smaller? Now it's listed as "INDEXFONT", I know I should do something with that but I'm not sure what exactly...

    And how do I do that? The error says: Script error, "Test.wad:SBARINFO" line 77: 'KSawCell' is not a type of ammo. Script error, "Test.wad:SBARINFO" line 84: 'KSawCell' is not a type of ammo. [edit] Never mind this error, it was a spelling mistake lol... :/

    Lol, now it looks like this: Weapon 8 and 9 are in front of the "ARMS" text and on the right it doesn't show the correct information. Plus when I load it in Zdoom it says it doesn't recognize the ammo type either?

    Imo anyone can play Doom; kill the enemies and find the exit. It's just that you need to master the game to not lose too much health or waste ammo or to play on more difficult levels. So I'd say 50/50 :)

    OK, so how do I join in? Just make a map, post the download-link here and that's it? Or what? I've never actually released anything, so would be cool to have my very first release be a part of this. This doesn't mean I've never created a map though... Also, in the OP what is meant by format??

    Yeah, that makes sense. Although I would've never figured that out myself. :) Anyway, I've got what I want now thanks to your step-by-step list, which really helped me out a lot. 2 minor problems: - The switches textures don't work (SW1GOTH / SW1MEGA). They don't do their 'switches-thing'. - The PLANET1 and PLANET2 textures seem to be too big or something because I can't copy them into the texture editor for my mod Everything else works fine as I said.

    OK, I've got a question which I'd really appreciate to get some help with. I've downloaded the community chest 4 texture pack (from this site), which is quite a big file. The first thing I need to know: Is it "legal" to use in my WADs? Coz there are some textures which I'd really like to use in my own WADs as well, but I've come across things/WADs/packs whatever where it's not always legal to just grab the stuff you want. If not, if it's not legal to use, then this second question doesn't even apply anyway. As I don't want to use all of the textures (since it's quite a big file to say the least), I'd like to know how to "cut out" the textures that I do want for my own WADs, but how do I go about that? Or is that not even possible? I'm using Slade usually, but I'm quite a newbie to this kind of stuff, so any (BASIC!!) help is appreciated. Thanks in advance of course!

    Alright, I think I'm gonna fix this in a different way because I've found a solution that does work (so far). I've created a whole new WAD in Slade in which I've imported the MIDRAIL2 texture; also following the steps from Gez (such as opening the texture editor for both CC4 and this new WAD or creating PP_START and PP_END lumps etc) I've tested this in DB and now I do see the image of this texture, both in 3d-mode and regular mode. Then after I'm finished (selecting textures and stuff) I'm just gonna import this whole new WAD into my mod, the same way I did with the Gothic wad (from Realm667) for example. I hope this is gonna work!!

    OK, I'll post the "problems" I've come across following your steps: Step 1 = I've done this, but when I search for the PNAMES and TEXTURE1 lumps in my mod, it's already there???? Only the size of these two lumps in my mod is a bit bigger... Step 2 = Done this as well, except it opens not one tab for TEXTURE1, but several (5) tabs and 1 for TEXTURE2 Step 3 = This step seems to be alright according to your explanation. Step 4 = The problem here is what do you mean by "go to the end"? And which one of the 5 do I need to copy-paste in ?? Step 5 = I've tested this step with the MIDRAIL2 texture, just to try it out and this seems to be fine because I found the texture on the bottom, but there's a whole lot of other textures as well?? Step 6 = I don't get the second half of this step... Now, when I go to Doom Builder again and look for the MIDRAIL2 texture it's not there. However, when I go to Flats it's there, except the actual texture is not visible and instead I see a red cross. [Edit] In 3d mode the texture is all black, but then when I playtest the map I am able to see the new texture. Weird Thanks for the offer, but it's not like it's an issue. It's just that I want a little extra for my mods. Besides, I don't want to bother you (or anyone else) with my "problems" this way.

    Timeframe to make a level?

    It depends a lot. When I'm able to map for let's say 7-8 hours a day, like in the weekends or holidays (I'm a teacher, so I've got plenty of them), I would finish an average-sized map - of 10-15 minutes of gameplay - in about a week, but that's ONLY when I have inspiration or when I'm in the mood. Sometimes I just don't map for a month and then pick it up again and never stop for several months. But I've also made maps that last over 30 minutes of gameplay and those took me over a month to complete. I'm currently working on a megaWAD which I started in March 2011 and I've only finished about 12 maps...

    Hello, I have a question. Where can I find that kick-ass marine used in for example Scythe 2? I've seen it in some other wads too. It shoots green plasma bolts and is extremely fast. I've looked on realm667.com but I cannot find it there. Does anybody know or am I not allowed to use it? Any help would be grateful. Thanks!

    I used Slade3.0 for importing it. I went to Archive, clicked "Import Files" and then chose the one you gave me, renamed it to DEHACKED and that's it. However, before I do something (new) in Slade I always "test" it first with a copy. I deleted it, did the above again and now I don't seem to get that message?? Weird

    Wow thanks man. I really appreciate that! However, now when I load the map (in Zdoom) it says: "Invalid data encountered for texture [name of wad].wad:EVILMARI" when the whole thing is loading in zDoom (I took a quick screenshot of it while it was loading) . The game/wad does work, but I suppose this message shouldn't be there?? And yes, I will mention Erik Alm in the text file once my wad is finished. I think he's one of my most favourite mappers!
