  1. My youngest sister just moved back to Michigan, and, get this, her new address is on Shadow Wood Street. I have half a mind to take a trip over there to pick up some of the Kraters of Might and Discs of Repulsion she doubtlessly has floating in her back yard.

I gotta check out Hexenkopf Hill sometime. It's about 20 miles from me.

  4. Well, it's been a week since I went in and had my right hip replaced. I'm home and dealing with the pain nicely with my oxycodone prescription. the sutures itch like crazy and my leg muscles are always stiff.

for the surgery they put me to sleep and gave me an epidural. there were a couple of times during the procedure that I regained enough conciousness to hear them working on me. quite fun. the first nite after the surgery I was "kept comfortable" with morphine. fun in a different way.

so now I'm home, walking on crutches. can't really bend over yet. for the first six weeks you can't bend over 90 degrees, so I have to use special tools to put on sock and shoes and pants. can't wait till all the precautions are over.

Death comes to us all. But for some it comes much sooner from their own tooth.

  6. Alright, since finishing my latest map, now comes the inevitable post-release blues (as I call them). This is the period where it finally sinks in how all the time and effort I put into something I enjoyed doing will amount to little more than someone's petty, short-lived amusement and their subjective notion of good or bad; both objects of little-to-no intrinsic value in the grand scheme of things. An unfortunate reminder through self-reflection that I try my best to avoid, lest all my creative desires plunge into the depths of an ever-encroaching dark, abyssal despair.

    (lol emo)

Anyway, does anyone else get moods like these after finishing something? Or am I just steadily going insane?

  7. This is Doom related, but I don't think it warrants its own thread in the regular forums, since the level's not really close to finished yet and I'd rather post when it's ready for playtesting and scrutiny.

It's been a very long time since I've touched Doom as far as level design is concerned. I've returned to it countless times since it was released fifteen years ago just to play it again, but I remember my editing experience as being fulfilling on one hand, but utterly frustrating on another. I think it was because editing in DEU/DETH and visualizing anything was just a huge pain in the ass.

I did levels when I was like, twelve or thirteen. And I was really self absorbed and thought I was king shit when I was actually very mediocre. Looking back on my old work makes me cringe, so I feel like the only recourse is simply to try and produce something that isn't a) shit and b) hyped up. For those of you who know my name and want to look that crap up, Dear God, please find something else to do.

Since I've come back, I've found out about DoomBuilder and editing has been really fun. I'm still as slow in producing maps as I've ever been, but DB has taken a lot of time out of editing due to the excellent 3D mode and texture alignment features. Eventually I'd like to revisit some of my old maps and produce updated versions of them. ZDoom versions of them ought to be fun.

So a little while ago I started a new level for ZDoom (Doom II in Hexen Format), using Gothic DM textures. It's called Gorgoroth (Tolkien-invented name, yes) It's been coming along pretty well. I'm trying to make use of slopes and other ZDoom features without going overboard and I think the results are good so far.

So go give the WiP page a look. I plan on submitting this to the WADs and MODs forum when it's finished for suggestions before I upload it to idgames/.

Comments, jabs, and what have ye welcome.

  10. Because I am an idiot (and the other carriers pissed me off entirely in the 90s with roaming charges) I decided that Bellsouth Mobil-er, Cingula- er, AT&F'nT would be the best choice for a PDA Data plan. Since the bitches carry the iPhone, and, since its inception, have created sensible data plans (note: one I could actually afford) I decided to buy a Pocket PC,-- HTC Kaiser II. It has 4 GB Memory and an SD Micro expansion, Data this and that, can watch stupid movies if I wanted to on there. Can even draw on it. Whoop. However, it also has the ability to use ICS, or Internet Connection Sharing, which basically connects a PDA/PPC to a standard PC and connects said PC to the network. Shouldn't be an issue, right? I mean, I got a data plan, having an extra step to a PC should be just like using Opera or IE on the phone itself right?

    Huhuuh, I was wrong.

Turns out that this wonderful function is a bit too wonderful and easy and obvious that AT&T decided that it'd be the coolest idea in the world to make such an option an extra 10 dollar charge and casually forget to tell me about it- EACH TIME I USED IT. Charge to use tethering in a monthly plan= $10. The sales rep didn't tell me shit about this, and it wasn't even in the plan I read as an extra charge, or the manual I received. It wasn't supposed to be an extra charge. I guess some big wigs decided to make it one and not tell anyone (but they love to tell me I can get a free car by sending me over 9000 SMS messages) just to get some extra cash to scare the shit out of the iPhone and PPC users.

and if they ever read this:

Fuck you, AT&T. Intentionally crippling devices to fit your stupid data plans may be common practice for you guys, but to not tell your sales reps, me, or even post that such charges were currently suppressed and were to be reinstated that month... Come on. Even Satan wouldn't pull shit like that. no, posting on your shitty tech forum and not the main one doesn't count either. At least you could have stickied the topic.

In conclusion, AT&T was the last carrier on my list of carriers to try. They all suck, mobile technology in America is screwed just like it was when phones were on landlines. same shit , no wires. Gotta love it!

  11. Considering that I just spontaneously developed a new blind spot, about 10 degrees left of straight ahead, as if a segment of my brain responsible for higher processing of visual signals simply ceased working entirely.

It seems to have rectified itself now, but I must make a note to take better care of my noggin.

That really freaked me out for a couple minutes - it showed up while reading, and the second-last word I read always had two letters missing from it - in their place, there was white paper.

So yeah. Wanted to tell somebody. And I'm glad I dodged a bullet, I guess.

  12. Every time I spend money, I immediately take all the coins out of my wallet that I get back in change because they make my wallet bulky and uncomfortable and I put them all into a box in my room. Every so often, I'll gather everything together and either put it in coin wraps and deposit it in the bank or if I'm lazy I'll just go to CoinStar.

It's about that time again, and I just counted $59 in quarters, which obviously doesn't even include the insane amount of smaller change that's accumulated over the past 8 months or so. So once I get everything sorted out, it'll be like finding a $100 in my pants pocket or something. Pretty sweet. It's like my Christmas present to myself, except I'll probably just end up spending it doing all of my Christmas shopping for other people.

    1. Gokuma

      Gokuma

I actually use my change regularly so I don't accumulate too much. Coinstar takes a percentage so you'd have more money if you weren't using them.

It was smoggy at the time, but it was the clearest of days during peak color. You may not see the trees that turned a lighter shade of green, due to said smog. Lots of evergreens take away from the color as well.

Thought some might like to see this. I know a lot of people don't care, myself included, but a lot of people wanted me to do this, so I did. :)

The town I recently moved out of has two Rite Aids, two Giants, and three Wawas and there're all on the same road except one of the Rite Aids! There's shopping centers immediately behind shopping centers. It's just retarded.

And around Lancaster city there's 1,000,000 Turkey Hills. Hopefully the economic crash will slow this idiocy down as well as all those THP developments.

Driving around November 1st and 2nd, it was really cool the bright greens, yellows, reds, and oranges while the leaves hadn't really started to fall yet.

Now that they're brown, yellow, and wet, and the trees are pretty bare it's not so pretty.

  18. My girlfriend and I had a long phone conversation just a few minutes ago, and we both came to realize that we had the same viewpoint on our relationship: It needs to end, but not anytime soon. We know that it's not going to become anything permanent and has no real potential beyond what it already is. At the same time, though, there's no pressing need or want to break up preemptively.

From her perspective, there's no real future potential mainly because of a difference in personal interests. I'm interested in games, techy hobbies, living a wealthy lifestyle, and traditional pastimes like fancy dinner, movies, and alcohol here and there. She's interested in the outdoors, reading, celtic music, and environmentalism. The small amount of overlap in our interests includes a few TV shows and the occasional movie. That's about it.

From my perspective, there's no real future potential because of the reasons mentioned above and because of the fact that I know I can't live with her. The relationship is great when we see each other 2 to 3 times a week, spending the night here and there. Anything much more or less than that has proven to be a strain on the relationship. Another factor is that she's riddled with family problems and is struggling (financially) to make it through university. I don't really want her to be a burden on me financially, as she has no way to pay her fair share if she were to live with me. Her future prospects for earning money are pretty mediocre as well, as she's majoring in biology and she has said loud and clear that money isn't what she cares about in life. I can understand that but I also can't escape the fact that I would want a life partner to help free me up financially and work toward some more exciting life goals such as traveling, homebuilding and maybe getting involved in playing sports or games with other people.

As it stands today, neither of us want to ever have kids, but she wouldn't mind the idea of getting married some day. I'm dead set against marriage because of its religious stigma. This kind of explains why we're both OK with just riding out our relationship until it glides to some kind of stop. Neither of us feel any pressing need to have a relationship that's going to "lead to something." Essentially we're getting our jollies from food, sex, small talk, and some mindless TV entertainment. I also get along with her family really well, despite the fact that they're the major cause of her stress and worries.

Is our arrangement bizarre or is it more common than I think?

  19. well, I've been experiencing pain in my hips lately, sometimes so severe I have to walk with a cane. I had thought, and got one medical opinion that it may be bursitis. an MRI revealed that is is in fact avascular necrosis. what that means is the femoral head isn't getting enough blood so it is starting to break down. the only thing that could have led to this is that I drink alcohol daily. I used to drink heavily but I don't anymore. now I have to stop drinking completely.

the most conservative treatment is taking NSAIDs, like like ibuprofen, and physical therapy. the next option is a surgical procedure called core decompression, in which they drill a hole in the femoral head to relieve pressure and hope to increase blood flow to the bone. if the degeneration continues, the next step is total hip replacement.

so to sum up, this sucks.

    1. Gokuma

      Gokuma

I think it's possible for an MRI to cause necrosis. So it might not be a good idea to get more of them. Look into it though. Don't just take my word for it.

some notes. thats my girlfriend in the wedding dress. that was her actual wedding dress mind you. she's divorced. the wound makeup on her chest I made myself and I'm kinda proud of it. turned out pretty good. everyone had a great time at the event and there were even some kids involved. the tourists loved us. we put on good shows for them "attacking" the busses and cabs. I think we gave them a unique experience. lots of pictures were taken. I believe the main repository for zombiecon pics is on flickr. they should all be tagged zombiecon08. so check 'em out.

::edit:: sorry if you couldn't get into the slideshow. forgot it was set to private. fixed now. check out the pics.

An American businessman was in Japan. He hired a local hooker and was going at it all night with her. She kept screaming "Fujifoo, Fugifoo!!!", which the guy took to be pleasurable.. The next day, he was golfing with his Japanese counterparts and he got a hole-in-one. Wanting to impress the clients, he said "Fujifoo". The Japanese clients looked confused and said "No, you got the right hole."
