  1. I believe that the comments/voting system in the archives needs a modification that would require a person not only to add two random digits together before entering a comment, but to actually enter either their e-mail address or their forum ID as identification before they would be allowed to vote or comment on a file. Now, someone is bound to jump in and say: "Herculine, you're just whining because people don't like the maps you've uploaded so far; get over it..." but I assure you that this is not the case. Since I have in fact uploaded files I've been paying much more attention to what people post in the comments section of other files as well. While many of these comments are valid compliments or criticisms, there are also a large number of comments that are simply trolling and flaming. These comments abound in racial and religious slurs, gender bias and other derogatory comments that are unjustifiable and by no means productive. This sort of thing might have been cool or acceptable decades ago, but I think in this day and age we should all be able to live without that kind of crap. I feel that in these cases if one doesn't have something intelligent to contribute then they should say nothing at all, or in the very least if they're going to insult someone they should at least have the spinal fortitude to back it up with their name. Putting one's money where one's mouth is, if you will. So, of anyone among the powers-that-be who are capable of making such a change to the archives, I simply ask this: please make it so that votes/comments must be accompanied by some form of identification. I sincerely believe that if such a requirement is put into effect then we all will see a drastic decrease in the cowardly anonymous trolling that seems to plague the archives at the moment.

It sounds like it might be exactly what Mister Zahl suggests, but I also wonder what level transition effect you're using (i.e. fade, melt, wipe, etc.) because it has been my experience that some video cards or certain versions of some video drivers can handle these effects badly.

The niche you specifically mentioned by name. An unpopular niche, as I said, but still a niche. Those wads do in fact get reviews eventually.

And you're expecting what exactly? As you and I are both fully aware, it's not a popular niche.

You Got The BFG Edition! Oh, Yes.

If that's true (and it sure looks like it is) then I've been "remastering" games myself almost as long as I've had a PC!

You Got The BFG Edition! Oh, Yes.

Is it just me, or is DOOM 3 a lot easier now?

You Got The BFG Edition! Oh, Yes.

Has anyone tried yet to see if any old Doom 3 mods will work with this?

You Got The BFG Edition! Oh, Yes.

Yes, it has been confirmed that there is a NERVE WAD included!

You Got The BFG Edition! Oh, Yes.

Eight new levels for roughly twenty USD; that's roughly 2.50 USD per level. That's not as bad as I thought it would be.

That's not what was said; the comment was clearly in regard to difficulty. The archive file comments are full of whining about things being too difficult, but IMHO such complaints are not valid as reviews since everyone's skills are different. What's too difficult for you might very well be a fun challenge for someone else.

I agree wholeheartedly, though I probably would have said something more like: "Not every game modification can be expected to be appropriate for every player's skill level or sense of aesthetics." EDIT: I tried to type the 24th and the 4th letters of the English alphabet together at the end of that sentence but each turned into an asterisk. **

IMHO reviews of a Doom wad really are no different than reviews of a box-office movie. There are always going to be people who will say that it's good and there are always going to be people who will say that it's bad. In the end you just have to wait for it to hit the half-price theater or get released on DVD and then check it out for yourself.

What? We can review our own wads? *starts hurriedly typing...*

Doesn't at least some part of the definition of the word "archives" denote that it contains old stuff? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archive

    No cheating allowed

Take a look at a few of the ratings/comments for any wad in the archives and you're bound to come to these contradictory conclusions: 1.) Unless you create your wad as a genuine attempt to please everyone with total disregard for what you wanted it to be, it will be called "vomit" at least a dozen times. 2.) You can't please everyone, ever. No matter what you do someone will say it's the worst wad ever, so you might as well make it the way you want.

Thank you Dragonsbrethren for the concise and accurate review of the music wad. Mimicking the dark ambiance of Hodges's music was exactly the intention.

A very good point, hex11. More good examples of this would be the different versions of John Anderson's "Dante's Gate" and "Crossing Acheron" maps. It's very interesting to see how such a mapper's work evolved from one version to the next. New and experienced mappers alike could learn something from such examples.

I never mentioned the names of any other modders; there was no hidden meaning in my comment. I continue to comment on your YouTube videos BECAUSE I don't like your wads and the aforementioned videos continue to be of the same quality.

You upload wads full of images of yourself, a wad that is nothing more than an image of yourself and make YouTube videos advertising when others use these images of yourself in their wads; do we really need to waste space printing here verbatim Noah Webster's definition of "egotistical"?
