  1. How could you resist killing those liches. For me it's one of the most enjoyable things in the game (still hating their tornadoes though). Thanks for playing, I hope you had a good time.
  2. Unfortunately it doesn't work, it gets desynced right at the beginning. Did you play it on normal difficulty? Was the pacing better? I look forward to your feedback!
  3. First, thanks for playing and reviewing, it means a lot to me. When I fired up your demo I knew exactly where the problem was and it is my fault. You see, I wanted to streamline difficulty levels a bit so I made three custom ones - easy, normal, hard. From the demo you posted I immediately knew that you were playing on hard. I assume that you used "-skill 3" command line? Well, that's "hard". Your problems with high enemy number and ammo starvation is exactly the thing I was aiming for hard difficulty (it's even in the description in the first post). The biggest issue with this is me not communicating this well enough in the first place. That being said I didn't know this would be a problem. So I suggest playing the map with "-skill 2" command, I am sure that you will enjoy it much more. I have tried replicating the issue with the game not pausing when in menu but everything worked fine. I hope that the initial bad experience with the map won't put you off and you will give it another chance. I am sure that the best the map has to offer is yet to come.
  4. Fantastic. Heretic doesn't get as much love as it deserves.

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

It's not noticable when using capped framerate, only when using uncapped at 60Hz. I can tell that there is input lag when played at 35fps but it's so low that it doesn't bother me.

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

Regarding the sound issue setting the variable to "directsound" solved the problem. Thank you for the tip. Is there a way to make it convenient for other players so they don't need to play with this setting? Vsync is unpleasant because Doom is a type of game where you need to utilise fast reflexes. And the input lag spoils the fun. Personaly I prefer some minor screen tearing with zero lag. Would FPS limit solve the issue?

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

I'm one of those who experience weird sound problem in 5.2 where everything is pitched so high it's like a parody of Doom. The music plays fine (General MIDI). Tried Chocolate Doom and sounds play fine. I didn't have time to test previous versions but I think I had no problem in version 5.0. By the way I like the option to uncap the framerate with vsync on but this solution introduces input lag. Is there a way to eliminate it?

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

Ah, good to know you can fix the chainsaw so easy. And as you have probably guessed, I am not very huge fan of the berserk sound. The main reason I like Crispy Doom is you can play as close to vanilla as possible with few toggleable additions (like hi-res or blood color fix, those are great). It would be nice if the berserk sound would be toggleable too. I have noticed something different - everytime I run Crispy Doom I have to disable smooth scaling. I tried to look the parametr in the CFG file but could not find it. Is this an oversight?

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

If I find berserk pack then everytime I choose fists (key 1) I can hear a power-up sound. Similary, everytime I select a chainsaw I can hear long rumble sound that should play only in special cases. Will this be fixed in the next version?

    New E1M3

Hi FreeDoom team! I love your work so I thought I could contribute. When I played through Ultimate Doom variation of FreeDoom I noticed that map E1M3 was largely unfinished. So I began to make my own vanilla version of it. I used only resources from shareware episode becase I wanted to be as close to the original as possible. The layout is similar and the level has a hidden exit to E1M9. I don't know if you'll use it, but I'd be glad. I put a lot work into it. Enjoy! E1M3 download FreeDoom FTP link

    New E1M3

Hi everyone. I let my friend play the map and together we found bunch of new problems, like item misplacement or bad texture alignment etc. So I fixed those. Here's the link to the new version: MediaFire link I'd be glad if you could update the level in the project too. Have a nice day!
  12. Use this link. I will upload it to idgames eventually when I have more time.
  13. If some of you think that Hexen: Death Kings of the Dark Citadel is frustrating, you can try my patch that attemps to balance the difficulty of the game. Let me know what you think! Download Link Unofficial Hexen: DKotDC Balance Patch v1.0 =========================================== by Paar, April 2012 The official expansion for Hexen has some terrific levels but a constant spawning of tough monsters is kind of annoying, especially for those who are playing the game for the first time and just need to explore. This patch adresses the problem. So no monsters that are capable of firing projectiles are being spawned (Afrits, Serpents, Stalker Bosses, Bishops, Slaughtaurs and Reivers), just Ettins (like in the original Hexen) and in some cases Centaurs. And no Stalkers as you cannot see them which is not fun. There are some exceptions: MAP44: Catacomb - there is slight chance that Wendigos will spawn. MAP47: Pyre - only Afrits are being spawned, althought in a noticably smaller number. MAP51: Locus Requiescatt - only Reivers will spawn. However this time their number is not infinite, you can kill them all eventually and have some peace. MAP53: Armory - this level is already heavy action packed, so no monster spawning. MAP59: Ice Hold - only Wendigos are being spawned, althought in a noticably smaller number. Even though only Ettins are being spawned in most cases, the game is still much harder than the original Hexen. I didn't have time to properly test the patch, so let me know if there are any problems. And yeah, it works with Vanilla Hexen. How to use the patch: --------------------- The game needs to be patched to version 1.1. Just unpack the archive to the folder with HEXDD.WAD and run the PATCH.BAT file, the original WAD will be renamed to HEXDD.BAK.
  14. That's a bummer. I'll try to upload it elsewhere.

    New E1M3

Ok then... Here's the new version: MediaFire Link I couldn't connect to the FTP server so I'd be glad if someone else could upload it instead of me. There are numerous changes to the map - including difficulty balancing, retexturing and minor layout rebuilding. I think it's final now but there could still be some problems like missing/wrong texture or misplaced item. Just let me know and I'll fix it. It's hard to keep an eye for everything. I hope you'll like the changes! EDIT: Did some minor improvements, now it's final version (link is updated).

    New E1M3

I never intended to do a remake of the original E1M3, just wanted to be inspired by it. There are many new locations that have nothing to do with the original. Anyway, I decided to do some reworks as a response to Vermil's "complaints" (most of them are open-minded and I like them) and to further differentiate the map from the original. Give me a few days and I'll submit a new version. Thanks for all your responses!

    New E1M3

    Thank you!
  18. Ok, I added a mirror link (and corrected the text). By the way, in the expansion there are so many monsters at times that you won't be bored for sure. But if they keep spawning, it just isn't fun. It's like you cannot win. Of course no one is forcing you to use the patch. It's only for those who don't like the original spawning system.
  19. Unfortunately, fixing original demos isn't possible. Raven probably changed behaviour of some monsters or projectiles and the result is desynched gameplay. The game reacts differently on these movements. Only solution is re-record these demos again with updated engine and replace old ones. This is what Id has done with Doom and what Raven should do with Heretic, but didn't. I admit that movement is somewhat different from original, but it is extremely difficult to match it. Maybe I could try again, maybe I should just drop it as you're not interested. Anyway I think that my solution is better than desynch, which makes the game looking unfinished.
  20. Hi everyone. I made this patch today, it fixes (replaces) desynched demos during main menu in Heretic. Raven didn't bothered to update the demos along with the game itself and instead left them as they were before - we know how the result looks. So you can use it with version 1.2 (if you just like i t better) or with 1.3 (Shadow of the Serpent Riders). Of course, this has some meaning only if you're using Dosbox or Chocolate Heretic, as it won't work with source ports as ZDoom or Doomsday. So it's for nostalgics only. Enjoy it and let me know what you think! Download here
  21. It's for purists. I'm sure I'm not the only one ;)
