Sorry if this has been addressed previously; I tried to do some searches but couldn't find anything. I'm using PrBoom-Plus a lot these days, and although I really like it, I've noticed that it runs a great deal slower than ZDoom. I'm using the latest version btw. I have it configured to NOT be graphics intensive(no glBoom) and to emulate original DOOM graphics and behaviors, with "uncapped framerate" selected. However, no matter what wad I play using PrBoom-Plus, including any of the iwads, it is quite a bit slower and laggier than ZDoom. I seriously doubt that it's my system because I have a fast system for starters, and secondly ZDoom is never slow, even with very large wads. Is there anything I can do to speed up PrBoom-Plus, or might there be some odd option that I could disable to make it run quicker?

This only true to an extent. I'm sorry, but certain time periods in human history have produced better art than others, period. Sure, there will always be junk no matter when you live, but when you have a population that is more energized to make great art then more great art will emerge. Are you prepared to say that neanderthals from 30,000 years ago had an equal amount of crap to the Italian Renaissance?

What a shame that you are unable to finish this. I certainly understand, but still...damn. For some reason some areas remind me of certain places in the first F.E.A.R. game. Great work!

True. "The authors know their job and have clearly given us a breath fresh of hellish air... On the other hand, kudos to Osifil for taking the time to do so many of the reviews. He appears to have done the vast majority in this /newstuff chronicles.

@ComicMischief: Good screenshots, man! Keep it up.

Wow, thanks! I had no idea there was so much behind-the-scenes disparity between the two source ports. This explains a lot.

I use -complevel 9 with 1680x1050 resolution. I mostly use it to test wads I'm making or to play old stuff like AV or Eternal DOOM.

Sad indeed.

You can always play on something other than easy or normal.

Zone F - Vanilla 4-Player COOP(Pro) (Survival(1 Life))

All of this. Consider granting some leeway in your ruleset. -
In my opinion, Eternal DOOM trumps anything previously mentioned in this thread.

Yes, you are the only one. As Kristus said, they gave you the huge goat-legged horned devilish guy(the Cyberdemon) at the conclusion of Episode 2. This was done on purpose. Most people would expect a creature like that to appear at the end of the game, and when it doesn't they are thrown off guard. The Spider Demon challenges people's preconceived notions of hell. It's a cool and creative boss. On the other hand, another fucking Baron of Hell recolor would've been way too obvious and wouldn't have added anything to the game.

Here's DOOM if someone truly made it "newer". and another one...

Yeah, 'cause Daily KOS sounds like a really reputable source for news and information. -
Non-Megawads with an Icon of Sin or a Custom Boss

Sure. Here's the melee-based level, and here's a link to the page detailing the project I'm about to release. -

The fact that he said that really illustrates how insulated some(read: most) politicians are from the real world. What a dumbfuck thing to say. It's the parents responsibility to monitor what their kids are getting into, not government. A true believer in the Constitution would never say stupid shit like that. -

Vordakk replied to Pure Hellspawn's topic in WAD Releases & Development
I did a single map focusing on melee-only gameplay which featured an Icon at the end. Also, the 12-level wad I'm about to release will have an Icon in the final level as well. -
But it's ok for them to use their legally-purchased knife, ax, or ballpeen hammer when they "lose their mind"? Use that brain in your head sometime.

Banning guns never works as progressives intend for it to. All it does is keep guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens and gives criminals(who have no qualms about breaking the law in the first place) a chance to go on a killing spree unchecked. A gun is basically a tool, an extension of the human hand. It's the person's will that turns this tool into an agent of death. Motor vehicles are arguably more dangerous than guns in many cases, yet we use those every day. I guarantee that if I take my car up onto the sidewalk in the ritzy shopping sections of my city, I could very easily beat this guys death-count. Psychos are gonna be psycho whether or not they have access to projectile weapons. They'll use whatever they can to kill. This website is a good starting point. As the old saying goes: "When seconds count, the police are minutes away."

...and regenerating health and pop-up tips and scaling difficulty and friendlier monsters and more cinematics and more linearity and, oh wait...what?

This is a classic liberal "go-to" argument when dealing with a pro-death penalty conservative, so it doesn't surprise me that you'd use it. Frankly, I don't know why it took so long for it to be thrown out there. The problem with it is the logic simply isn't there. You act as though every time someone is up for death, Janet Napolitano herself reads the verdict. Article Three of the United States Constitution states "The Trial of all Crimes...shall be by Jury". A criminal's fate is held in the hands of jurors, not government. The person who actually does the injection is probably is a government employee, but the decision should be made by a jury of peers. Clearly it's wrong to expect avid players of violent video games to be anything but total pussies when it comes to actually killing a hardened criminal in the name of justice. The smug decree from the ivory tower is that our justice system should show more sympathy for criminals than it does for victims. I'm sure that you all would rather the system resemble Sweden, where Jon Nodtveit was able to kill a gay man in cold blood and serve a mere 7 years in prison before being released. Or how about Norway, where murderer and church-burner Varg Vikernes was allowed to record music in prison, then released on parole in 2009. Those are the type of guys we want out on the streets, right?

He talking about RANK, not branch of service.

...in our current system, perhaps. But it certainly doesn't have to, and shouldn't, cost more to kill someone than to keep them alive. It's rigged that way on purpose so that bleeding hearts like you and the ACLU can feel morally superior when sane adults argue that indeed those who commit horrible crimes have in effect waived their own right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The death penalty, in addition to being just retribution, is a great deterrent of violent crime. Why do you think murderers always seek life imprisonment over death? They fear death, as do the vast majority of human beings.
-
I can agree with this. I think what you are describing is a pitfall that can crop up in any art form though, be it music, movies, comic books, etc. That's why it's sometimes very cool to play pwads by noobs who haven't spent years lurking the forums and reading detail guides. Their levels sometimes have a certain charm to them that makes some "pro" levels seem sterile and "by the numbers".

I hope he gets tortured and put to death so tax-payers don't have to pay for him to be fed and sheltered in a prison for 50+ years.
