Considering the Unreals have legitimate full-fledged single player modes, especially the first as that was its biggest purpose (we don't talk about the "sequel") it was an absolute dog water move to yank them. This tells me they don't believe in their history and would rather pull a revisionist so they can be seen as The Fortnite Company. So what if the servers are no longer supported, fans will get around it and they have, at least with Unreal Engine 1. I don't know what's happened with UT2004 but I assume there's still community servers? But not supporting them as-is and just giving a warning out on the Steam page that online is at your own discretion and is no longer officially supported? Right, I'll safely assume they're just assholes and move on, it's not like they've made anything I've liked in the better part of a couple decades anyway.

Make Your Own Doom Cheat Code

IDHOWDIDO - Tracks statistics on the current game and outputs them to a text document, including total kills, items collected, secrets discovered, deaths etc. IDBIGJOHN - Randomly picks a monster on the current level to become Big Johnified. Their alert, attack, pain and death sounds are changed to intentionally bad and exaggerated Arnold lines from the 1987 film Predator. The monster in question will also appear to be scaled 1.2 bigger than the base version, has triple the amount of hit points and uses a_fastchase in its movement to occasionally sidestep your attacks while attacking at the same speed as it would if the -fast command was used.

With current methods and laws your hypothetical worst case nightmare scenario where games sound like they're restricted to a cloud service it would be hopeless then outside of piracy. The only thing that'd make this scenario pretty hardcore is if we got into shootouts with the police every time they shut down some torrent site.

  8. @baja blast rd. A very fair argument that promotes multiple playthroughs of the same map trying different strategies. First impressions are everything, until they are not. I can say a map is annoying but I only played it one way, there may be other ways to make it more fun.

  10. The screens are definitely nice looking and the design philosophy sounds solid, best of luck with completing it!
  11. Would be awesome if you could list some names so us irritable players know who to watch out for. 😉
  12. This always makes me unreasonably angry. Love the secret sector tagged chamber with NOTHING IN IT.

    Quake II Remastered

Wouldn't know, I assume it involves modifying DLL files like the original game unless the info's in english somewhere in a PAK file this time around. IIRC the damage was nerfed, as was their targeting, as was their health. I agree they were pretty garbage in the original but they are little more than a bee sting now.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

I always get a hankering for Diablo (1) around October for some reason but I suspect it's because I have a tormented soul. Started a new game with the Warrior, using the Beelzebub (misspelled as Belzebub) mod as Satan intended. It's probably everything I would approve of if Diablo 1 had gotten a remaster, some of these QoL improvements rolled over from its more popular sequel are just difficult to live without when going back to the vanilla game. It also restores cut content like questlines and every questline is available during a game instead of being randomized on every playthrough. What's more is there's a shared stash that has its own save file which I completely forgot was a thing, so I had everything I had found and stashed away from a couple plus years ago, just have to level up or distribute attributes to equip them as I go, saving a lot of time. As a result I'm just postponing stat distribution as I level up until I need to, to balance things out by starting out with and advancing to better gear earlier.
  15. I think you should be rewarded for thinking outside the box during a fight. I've made it a practice to test linedef ranges by getting right up to suspiciously placed spheres and circling them to see if I have to land directly on it or if I can trigger the trap and then get the sphere afterward so I don't waste it on something stupid. If I can just, leave a room or area that may've expected me to fight in there I will, chokepoints are vital to my I guess "turtling" strategy I often use at times which is generally cover based. If that can't solve a big fight then I'll suck it up and make do with the arena's offerings, it's just down to reflexes at that point. When I was thinking of exploits I was wondering if this also included having knowledge of Doom's quirks and intricacies, like item bumping and infinite height, I abuse both with firing rockets at walls to damage/kill enemies below me and to sometimes grab something that's just out of reach. I try to avoid item bumping keys however or infinite height exploiting a switch for fear of sequence breaking on my first playthrough.

Supplice - Out now on Steam!

I'm pulling a DUSK and waiting for this to be finished, plenty other things to play in the meantime (and Doom.)

Cyber Demon In DOOM 64 Intro

I believe Decino covers these oddities in his comparison video for classic and N64 monsters. That's how I learned the scripted marine players will actually attack you if you spawn them like regular enemies, and they are hardcoded to gib no matter what attacks you use.

I think i'm starting to love BTSX (E1)

@baja blast rd. I've only said same-y because thematically it is like 98% "techbase" from what I remember and the other 2% was the idea of some other dimension trying to bleed its way through in places but you only get glimpses and I thought you'd get to see it in the last ten or so maps but it never occurred, the ending is really cool however. Architecturally it is extremely strong for vanilla and the texture variety is massive and the whole aesthetic is very reminiscent of Quake II which I do enjoy. I want to go through it again on PC and then its sequel which I got to see about half of in the Unity release before putting it down due to other stuff.

Make Your Own Doom Cheat Code

Just wanted to say this one was positively fucking savage. 🤣 Alternatively it could also stand for EAguy and depending on the version of the game may do nothing, might unlock microtransactions and an execution date for the game.

I think i'm starting to love BTSX (E1)

Difficulty was an interesting case for me, I remember finding the beginning of MAP08 to be the most tough part of the entire megawad, then again I was playing it on the Xbox. I recall a seriously nasty fight early on in a not so open area that caused me to restart several times. There was that one part late in the wad though where it spawns in a comical amount of imps in an even more cramped space. Spikes like that can really stick out in your memory.
  21. I had a nightmare of the D3 pinky knowing where I was and chasing me in cramped dark corridors years ago, I feel it would be by far the most frightening monster because of its size, speed and strength but it's not so big as to get stuck or caught on things. Mort dangerous however? Well the bosses are on point. They'd be nearly impossible to stop, let alone bring down. Even in cover you would eventually be killed as they could just destroy it. They may also be more inclined to just pin and crush you underneath their leg/hoof so you may not even get a quick and relatively painless death by rocket or giant minigun fire.

How do you do secrets the "right" way?

I did the beginning part of HR2's MAP32: Playground without knowledge of the invul at the start that would've really helped. I've been traumatized and check my immediate surroundings in every new map of a WAD just in case before moving on.

Make Your Own Doom Cheat Code

IDFATCACOS Cacodemon size and mass is expanded to Fatso proportions, they fly slower but their fireball does 20 damage and has splash damage like a rocket, they also gain 9999 health, music for the level is replaced by Susumu Hirasawa's Forces at full volume and cannot be turned down or off. IDEDGE94 Are you tired of all these monsters being undiplomatic? Think Doom needed to be way ahead of its time in terms of character interaction? With this cheat your niche fetish will come true, as all monsters in the world are placed in a notarget-like state until approached and used, resulting in a Strife dialogue box complete with an adorable portrait of said monster and through there you can attempt to reason with it, maybe even work towards calling the whole invasion off altogether. Unfortunately if you at any point fail a speech check or attempt to negotiate with monsters that are higher level than you before you gain the experience necessary to speak successfully every enemy becomes hostile forever and you automatically lose the game because the cheat also removes your weapons and all items from the map as well. Being a demon person is hard work! IDSANDERS Merely makes the camera face your player up close and prints a message at the top of the screen. "I am once again asking for your support." IDCANTEEN Doomguy occasionally takes a sip of his trusty UAC canteen and regains the equivalent of 5 health bonuses of hit points back. IDFIREBLUHELL This one's real simple, when no clipping through the void outside the map it is textured with animated FIREBLU to make your forbidden exploration more visually appealing and emotionally relaxing.
