    [WIP] Vela Pax (on hiatus)

Sorry about that, Pentium IV, an "Extreme Graphics 2" on an Intel 82865G Graphics Controller.

What do you estimate the frame rate for playability will be on computers with 1 GB RAM, 2.60 GHz and 96MB graphics card? On 640x480 resolution in OGL. I ask this because for example, map05 of Eternal's 32 Inch Nails was entirely unplayable on my computer.

    WHAT!??! ...Another ripped DOOM wad!!??

At first I thought you were just linking to someone's joke of a mod but then I see that it's actually yours and that I just I uh but what I oh wow you have failed me Internet.

    Epic 2 [released]

Well compared to the original game it's much slower and more empty feeling due to the Quake engine, despite Quake 1 being a faster game. The Septimus and Blackmarsh revisit hubs were clearly rushed in places, and the four classes aren't as efficient as the original game's (and they suck at the beginning with little HP and mana capacity). But I don't really hate the game that much as I tend to play it on a blue moon, using the "Hammer of Thryion" source port for fancy colored lighting effects. It's one of my "favorite" games, but not one I play very often at all due to the feeling it emits. I always liked the textures, monsters (especially Archers), sound effects and music for H2. Just wish the game could of had more action (even the first Hexen was more monster filled) and a better finale (Eidolon is not as epic as D'Sparil or Korax). Anyway not trying to derail the topic, just my two cents on H2, continue.

Doom64 EX (Feedback build) Now at v1.1c

No wonder I couldn't play this damn thing, on here it shows the card requirement as being 128MB, and mine is 96, the website for the project didn't state that one small detail. Oh well, least I know now, a big kudos to the project overall though.

    Favorite source ports

CAUSE FIGHTS AT YOUR OWN RISK. What is everyone's preferred source ports for Dooming and why? I like G/ZDoom engine (what a surprise) but I often play on Skulltag primarily for convenience and mod loading through the Skins folder (instead of drag-n-drop like with G/ZDoom) because it combines both renderers in one, and it can run (most) a lot of G/ZDoom content. G/ZDoom has the advantage of displaying monster/secret count in the lower left hand corner of the screen though and can run more advanced mods properly. This is the most stable port for me and user friendly, both playability, modding, and multiplayer. Otherwise, for graphics, I prefer Doomsday/JDoom, even though it's the slowest (or one of the slowest) hardware accelerated ports and isn't Boom-compatible (nor can it utilize DECORATE). It's got some odd glitches as well like getting stuck on monsters. But the fake radiosity, glowmaps, lens flare and smoke/explosion/particle effects are well done and not too over the top. Combined with the PK_weapons and HRP it has a very nice look and feel overall. But I mainly use this port for vanilla-compatible PWADs. Supposedly Doomsday is getting a rewrite of the code so hopefully in the future it can run smoother and support more content.

Glad to see more use of H2 textures. The game was good for something!

    Favorite source ports

Mike, I thought people hated it when others bump threads especially considering the last post to that one was 2008 and the OP was banned. My humble apologies. I didn't know that about Batman Doom, I been meaning to play it for a long time but never got around to it yet, still busy with other WADs.

    Favorite source ports

Yeah, for example, Doomsday may not be perfect, hell my friend thinks it sucks compared to ZDoom, but that's fine, everybody has their own cup of tea. I may use Doomsday for certain things I want and then ZDoom for general functionality with most mods. I was very fond of Boom in the day and preferred it over ZDoom because it felt too "techy" compared to Boom's more simplified nature, it was essentially Doom just without all the annoying bugs/limits and it could make greater maps (take KBoom series by Kurt Kesler). But since ZDoom can run Boom-compatible PWADs it made Boom (for me) obsolete. Unless something absolutely positively has to work with Boom, I haven't found anything yet.

    Favorite source ports

That's not the point, it's the kind of ports you like playing with, not about what port is the best one to use. I already saw that thread, and frankly it was the most depressing, yet hilarious thing I've read in the Doom community in some time. But that's not the place for this. If people are civil enough (heh, OK maybe not) then this shouldn't turn into a flame fest. If it does then I will have it locked, it'll be your loss if that's the case.

DTWID: Project is done, check the release thread

Now THIS is the kind of thing I like seeing more of. Not even so much that it's oldschool, but they're id quality maps. The kind you can jump into and with that great flow and re-playability factor. Awesome stuff.

    Doomsday problems

For starters, hi. I am a user of the Doomsday source port and I have two problems with it: The upper and lower hemispheres of the sky texture do not render correctly and are just a solid color, with the sky in the middle. This isn't a particularly horrible problem that it obscures my vision and saps power out of my demon stomping abilities but it is rather annoying to see the sky all jacked up. And my second problem is while I know how to turn fog on and off, I have no idea how to change the color, everything I do results in an error in the console despite giving me an obvious list of things I can put in but no exact way of saying how. I am using Doomsday 1.8.6. (stable release).

    Doomsday problems

Thanks 4mer. Didn't realize it was that simple. If it wasn't really meant for games, a lot of stuff wouldn't work or display properly. No artifacting or graphical anomalies in other games. I feel this has been resolved. Thanks.

So, when you enable fog how do you change the color of it?

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/BurningCadavre/Untitled4.png Holy balls you're right. 24 made the sky texture go much higher. I had to look all the way up to see the solid color sphere now. I presume the higher the value the less you'll see of it?

    Doomsday problems

On a related side note, when I attempted to try out Risen3D (because of what someone said) one time, the result was even more heinous on there, I won't bother going into details but the skybox didn't exist at all in this port, just a black void of nothingness. EDIT: The possibility of fixing my problem may be somewhere in here: # Number of sky sphere quadrant subdivisions. rend-sky-detail force 6 # Sky sphere radius. rend-sky-distance 1600 # 1=Always render the full sky sphere. rend-sky-full 1 # Number of sky sphere rows. rend-sky-rows force 3 # Sky rendering mode: 0=normal, 1=quads. rend-sky-simple 0

    Doomsday problems

http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/BurningCadavre/Untitled2-1.png Without my HRP. It is possible when I downloaded the new version a while back and overwrote the folder of the old one it somehow messed things up? I could try deleting everything and re-downloading a fresh copy again.

    Doomsday problems

I'm not allowed to post attachments. Windows XP Service Pack 3 Pentium IV processor 1 GB RAM 2.60 GHz 96MB on-board video card utilizing Intel Extreme Graphics 2 on an Intel 82865G Graphics Controller. OpenGL/Direct3D games from Quake series up to Doom 3 even look/run fine. I lack any form of shaders in my GLSL however. OpenGL version is 1.4. EDIT: Alternatively I can just host a screenshot: http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo319/BurningCadavre/Untitled1.png I do use HRP but I modified mine (resized to default Doom values).

    Doomsday problems

Oddly enough, they display fine in Hexen. Most of them anyway, I think. Heretic does the same thing as Doom. Doom64 TC didn't have this problem either. EDIT: There is an option under the control panel to render the full sky but it doesn't do anything.
