The DWmegawad Club plays: TNT: Evilution
Grain of Salt replied to dobu gabu maru's topic in WAD Discussion
I'm really surprised that some people find parts of TNT pleasant to look at. Like, TNT has a lot of good qualities but looking good is just factually not one of them. At any point in the wad. -
Doomworld Mega Project 2016 (v2 is on /idgames)
Grain of Salt replied to TimeOfDeath's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Yes. Thanks a lot! Btw (@ anyone who cares) you can indeed play past MAP33 in prboom-plus. You just need to use -warp, have CWIL patches for those maps, and use -nomusic if you're playing past MAP36. You also need to use -nomusic if you're watching a demo recording of those maps, which is kind of a pain. -
Doomworld Mega Project 2016 (v2 is on /idgames)
Grain of Salt replied to TimeOfDeath's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Oh hey, I didn't realize you were gonna use my map, since it uses a dehacked patch etc. I could make a slight edit without the dehacked part though, if you do want to use it? And fix the sky I guess. -
I thought your megawad scores were averages, and then I got to SF2012 and now I'm just confused. Both SFs share maps with ESP, which is rated as a 4, so it's kinda weird if SF2012 peaks at 3. In my opinion SF2011 ranges from like 1 (my maps) to 4 (ToD maps), and SF2012 is probably 2-4. On the other hand, you rated Newgothic as 2, so maybe I just don't understand your scoring system. Also, in the spirit of giving, and since there's a list for short hard wads, interested parties could check out this weird 6 map thing I made in 2011. Or there's also this cool demo of Memfis playing it. Merry Christmas!

1. Pick a midi you like 2. Fuck yeah

I was gonna say ESP but 40oz got there first. Definitely check it out, though. TimeOfDeath maps are superhard but they're also really grounded in the sense that you can tell they're the work of a mapper just making things they enjoy. https://www.doomworld.com/vb/wads-mods/69846-esp-33-hard-maps/

This page is a pretty good guide to technical mapping stuff, in my opinion. But really, you can pick up almost everything just by mapping in Doom Builder. And for the few other things that aren't obvious, just go and look at other people's maps :0) Make things you have fun playing. Make things you like looking at. I don't think anyone can really give you advice about that.

The DWmegawad Club plays: Hellbound
Grain of Salt replied to dobu gabu maru's topic in WAD Discussion
What part of Hellbound does make you think that? -
SSRIs aren't weak or strong; different ones work differently on different people, and there are vague differences in overall effectiveness.

I can't be the only one here who highly dislikes slaughtermaps
Grain of Salt replied to Quagsire's topic in WAD Discussion
I can't believe you would do this -
Neat. I've been waiting to see what "shape grammars" would be like since you mentioned the idea a while back. Still kinda sad that you dropped hexen support, though. So it generates realistic titlepics, then :0)

wads that complete the map11 demo in doom 2 menu
Grain of Salt replied to Killer5's topic in WAD Discussion
On a related note, I've always thought that doom2.wad's DEMO2 plays Sunder MAP05 with pretty much the same strategy I use for that map. -
Doomworld Mega Project 2016 (v2 is on /idgames)
Grain of Salt replied to TimeOfDeath's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Fair enough. I think what I'll do is shelve this one for the time being and make something new for DMP2016. -
Doomworld Mega Project 2016 (v2 is on /idgames)
Grain of Salt replied to TimeOfDeath's topic in WAD Releases & Development
It currently does. I wasn't sure the policy on dehacked lumps. I could probably come up with a fix if dehacked is out of the question. Similarly, if TOD isn't okay with it, I'll happily withdraw the map. -
Doomworld Mega Project 2016 (v2 is on /idgames)
Grain of Salt replied to TimeOfDeath's topic in WAD Releases & Development
https://www.sendspace.com/file/4buue1 I've been meaning to submit a map to the dw mega project since 2012, so on a whim I thought I'd try offering up this tom19 tribute thing I made a few weeks ago. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but hopefully it'll find some kind of niche somewhere. The sky currently replaces RSKY1, but I'll fix that at some point. It's MAP01 and uses complevel 9. -
I don't play that many zdoom wads, but I quite like TimeofDeath's "Expired License".
-
Running the wad in cl9 fixes the problem. Strangely though, changing my default complevel to 9 did not work when I tried it before, which is why I thought I should ask what the intended level was. I guess when I tried that it must've loaded in cl2 anyway, for whatever reason. Also: apparently loading a saved game in prboom+ also restores the complevel you were using, which is interesting.
-
If you don't mind me asking, what complevel should I be playing this on in prboom+? I gave map01 a spin a couple of days ago and I found so many switches that couldn't be activated, and I wasn't sure if that was the intended behaviour so I ended up giving up for the time being. I really like the design though. You seem to like STONE2. I also like STONE2.

Please do, oh my god. Just don't nerf my chaingunner room. I love that thing.

Why is "Knee-Deep in Zdoom" hated?
Grain of Salt replied to Egyptian Guardian's topic in WAD Discussion
That's a mysterious decision but I can respect it. -

Sunder vs Sunlust:Which one takes the cake?
Grain of Salt replied to Egyptian Guardian's topic in WAD Releases & Development
They're so different it's hard to make any meaningful comparison tbh. Sunder, despite its many faults, has a special place in my heart that newer things can't really rival, but I think Sunlust's gameplay is more purposeful and successful overall. It might be more interesting to compare Sunlust to Speed of Doom. -
What is the most nostalgic DooM WAD you ever played?
Grain of Salt replied to theawesomesponge's topic in WAD Releases & Development
My vote goes to Dimensions of Time. -
Why are so many high profile mods not in /idgames?
Grain of Salt replied to Hell Theatre's topic in WAD Releases & Development
I've actually been doing a lot of mapping for that recently! You're welcome to try it out as soon as all the maps have exits, but as usual I'm not sure when that'll be. I did actually bump it down (up?) from chocolate doom to prboom-plus cl2 recently though, because I couldn't deal with the visplane limit. I am not hardcore. -

Fun fact You guys don't map for chocolate doom much, I guess.
