I believe Choco's messed palette in the fullscreen DirectX modes on Windows 7 is a universal issue, or at least I don't remember ever seeing it perform correctly on any Windows 7 system. Here's what it looks like in case you haven't seen. Luckily the Odamex team recently developed a fix which works for Chocolate as well (to test this, vv applied the fix to Choco code and the modified build did indeed fix the palette problem). Of course I hope fraggle will implement the fix into Chocolate too. IMHO, the setting should also be made the default option, especially seeing that Windows 7 is rapidly replacing XP as the most common desktop operating system.

Imps. Because copulating with them is most enjoyable.

Nuxius does make a good point. The title of the fork could very well be "The Doom Wiki - DoomWiki.org", as he suggested. This title would also include the actual vote-winning pick, "DoomWiki.org", so it would be a reasonable compromise in that sense too. The title as a whole would combine the functions of stepping on Wikia's toes as well as being slightly different from the original wiki name. As for the other tasks at hand, I think we really need to start thinking about who is going to take care of what in order to get the fork project rolling in practice. For example, if there are any volunteers for handling the database dump & fork building duties, please let us know here. For one, I would love to see Sigvatr's take on a possible new Monobook skin for the fork.

Quasar, I'd suggest that you edit the above underlined portion of your initial post into a hyperlink pointing to the related thread. IMHO it would make this dual thread setup a bit more user-friendly, and is more efficient for archival purposes also.

There haven't been new fork name suggestions for a while now, so I think the poll for choosing one should be set up now. My suggestion for formatting the poll would be this: If a mod/admin could attach this to the thread, it'd be nice. And if we stick to the original idea of having a week for voting, the poll should be closed around November 2, 12:00 PM UTC. On the other issues at hand, I'd like to hear Manc's estimation on how his pipe and hardware can handle the 700K pageviews per month, as well as the eventual traffic spike that will occur around the upcoming Doom 4 release. Also, who is willing and capable of handling the database dump acquisition process? I'm not even sure how it can and should be done exactly. If we need to write a request about it to Wikia, I can certainly deliver it to them, but someone who actually knows the technical side of the process should probably write up the request itself.

How about we gather these fork name ideas for the duration of this weekend and then attach a poll on those ideas to this thread, and after maybe a week pick the one the community prefers as a whole? EDIT: Doompedia I do kind of like, but then again it can't be shortened like Doom Database can (ie. doomdb.com, which seems to be available too).

Further fork names that just popped into my head are "Doom Encyclopedia" and "Doom Dictionary". Although my personal opinion is that "Doom Database" sounds less boring and rolls off the tongue better.
-
The best thing about the fork having a unique name would probably be the fact that then we wouldn't have to directly compete with Wikia's version in Google rankings and such. Which would probably be quite useful especially during the fork's early lifespan. EDIT: Also, IMHO, before we start doing further practical work on the fork project, we should thoroughly discuss and plan the idea to avoid rushed decisions. EDIT2: Oh, and the second best thing about a unique fork name could be that it would simply prevent confusion, especially with seeing two identically named article links while searching for Doom stuff on Google or whatever search engine.

After reading through this thread I can say that I now fully agree with the migration/fork idea, and I would love to see the fork hosted on Manc's server. The fork needs a catchier and more memorable name than "idtech Wiki" though. Maybe something like "Doom Database". And yes, I'd like to see some non-intrusive links at the current wiki pointing to the new fork, and I really don't support the idea of vandalizing or deleting stuff on the current wiki. Actually I like the idea of having a corporate-sponsored and secure backup of the database, as it can save the content from being wiped out in case Manc's server and backups get destroyed in a hurricane or whatever other disasters independently hosted websites can die in. Also, the current brown color scheme of the Doom Wiki can be altered if you dislike it. If anyone wants to give designing a new color scheme a shot, you can do so at the theme designer wiki. Just post a screenshot of your color scheme here and I can replicate it using Doom Wiki's own theme designer tool. Another thing that sucks about the current look is the horrible logo, which I made because the old (much better) logo didn't fit into the new skin. If anyone is willing to draw a new logo, it should be a PNG image sized 250px × 65px, it should include Doom Wiki's traditional mascot Hissy and preferably not include any copyrighted graphics.

Those with a strong dislike for the new skin will still have the option to use Monobook, which can be picked from the skin settings even after Monaco will be gone. A migration to another server can and will be considered if this causes a notable amount of distress and concern in the community at large (and if we can find a suitable alternative service provider).

Those who don't see the new skin yet can preview it via URLs like this: http://doom.wikia.com/index.php?title=Entryway&useskin=wikia - just replace Entryway in the URL with the article name you wish to see.
-
You can tick the setting "Disable my redirect to My Home" in the misc preferences to prevent that. In general I gotta say that I've been using the new skin/layout a while now, and overall I'm quite satisfied with it. The solid and narrower-than-before content area is indeed a controversial change, but I do see the logic behind it; it functions a lot better on mobile & small screens and it helps with creating consistent page designs, while still being wide enough for most content. Of course it sucks that making wide pages is now an impossibility and part of the current wiki content needs to be redesigned to fit the new skin. And as Quasar mentioned, it wastes a lot of screen space on high-res widescreen monitors. All the tools that I personally need for my wiki editing are still there, although admittedly the editing interface did change a lot and it took some time getting used to. During the overhaul period of Wikia there will likely be a bunch of technical problems with logging in and whatnot, so be prepared for some unusual nastiness with the site now and in the near future.

Excellent work on the Revenant. The cartoony style really works there and the gesture is amusing.

ScoreDoom 2.9 Full Release (updated to 2.9g)
Janizdreg replied to BilboHicks's topic in Source Ports
The ScoreDoomST Skulltag WAD download link is pointing to an outdated URL due to Skulltag moving back to skulltag.com recently. The correct URL is now http://www.skulltag.com/download/files/release/st-v097c2.zip. -
GOG.com shuts down [Sike! Reports of my death were greatly exaggerated]
Janizdreg replied to hervoheebo's topic in Everything Else
The most curious thing about all this is that someone bought a big part of the GOG parent company's shares around a week ago (Source, poorly translated via Google). Of course it might be just a coincidence, but it has left many people speculating if it's some big-ass & DRM-loving company that is now forcing GOG to shut down or to change its distribution model, or something nasty along those lines. -
Am I the only one who wishes splitscreen and proper gamepad support were standard source port features by now? Because IMHO, it would make all the sense nowadays with every second dude having their PC connected with their TV.

I certainly wish Super Jamie all the best whether he'll keep on concentrating on other endeavors in life or make a later comeback here (as many people have done in the past). As a side note and as a casual observer of Doomworld, I can't really say that I would've stumbled upon a notably larger-than-usual amount of drama, childishness, bitterness or the like lately. Sure, there might be small waves of these things now and then, but as a whole Doomworld is still a community with a large amount of creative talent and with a high number of friendly, smart and downright likable people. As long as that applies, the community lives on and is a good place to be.

I'm curious, is it on purpose that performing an undo removes all current selections? I feel it being somewhat of a nuisance for me personally, as often reselecting stuff each time I make a mistake feels a bit unnecessary. But if it's indeed on purpose and there's a clear reason for the behavior, then never mind my personal headache with it.

Thanks for posting that solution. I might try it on my new Windows 7 rig, since I've been having similar problems with SoF2 on that system.

2 772 files divided into 14 different root folders and their roughly 160 sub-folders, with an overall size of 6,83 GB.

Well, there's this thing, a fan-made Diablo-esque Doom game. I have no idea if it's any good though.

The full Master Levels background art is available here. Also, if you happen to have a knack for fan art, corporatedemon's Cacodemon, Imp & Pinky paintings and Derek Yu's Doomguy would probably make fine posters. EDIT: I'm curious, where did you obtain this scan from? I've never seen it in such glorious high-res before, and believe me, I've searched everywhere.

Alternatively, and if you like to take the easiest and lamest possible way out, you can simply save and load the game during the Vile's attack to render it totally harmless. This is only guaranteed to work in vanilla & Chocolate Doom though, as most ports have fixed the related glitch.

In case you were wondering what was the real reason for Blizzard removing LAN support from StarCraft 2: Now you know.

Once I almost killed myself shaving my head. In the late 90s I made a WAD in which you fight nothing but hundreds of imps. More recently I ordered and received a custom-made Doom logo knitwork.
