    Chocolate Doom

I haven't seen any threads about Chocolate Doom yet, so here we go: What do you think of it? What features would you like to see implemented into it? What features would you not like to see? IMO this port is very promising - getting to play vanilla (-like) Doom in Windows XP with sound is something truly awesome. What I'd like to see is full implementation of all the Doom 1.9 limitations and bugs (even and especially the ones that cause the game to crash). What I'd also like to see is support for high resolutions and uncapped FPS (of course only as options and not as the default setting). Apart from these I consider all the newschool port features (mouselook, jumping, slopes, etc.) a definite no-no for this source port.

    DOOM RETRO 1.2 released

The link seems to be broken on the (non-forums) main page, directing to http://www.doomworld.com/www.doomretro.com.

    QuakeCon Doom 2 Tournament Results

Could an admin please change the last link to skip the unnecessary promotion talk and the horrifying "minigame"? A link such as http://www.twitch.tv/quakecon/b/440423483?t=36m37s should do the trick.

    Doom Wiki Google rank issues

As most of you probably know at this point, last year the Doom Wiki migrated off Wikia to independent and ad-free hosting provided by manc. The migration was a long and demanding process, but the new wiki has now been up and running well for quite a while. One would imagine that getting rid of the initial server hickup issues, updating major Doom information and community sites (including Doomworld, ZDoom wiki and Wikipedia) to point to the new wiki and all the other related work done would've improved the site's Google rank a plenty. But apparently it has not, and the rank has instead dropped. Something needs to be done about this. So please post your thoughts on what could be causing this, and feel free to suggest ideas for possible methods of improving the situation.

    Chocolate Doom

The game audio somehow goes mute whenever I launch a multiplayer game using the v2-branch r2591 build. What could be causing this?

    The Psy Gangnam Style Phenonemon

Interesting. I hate silly copyrights and their abuse as much as the next guy, but it is worth noting that even these guys do do this, as discussed earlier in the thread. Though apparently less than the biggest jerks in the business. Current.

    Chocolate Doom

I'm requesting a quick fix for this issue, as it broke the automated v2 Windows builds (which are now lacking executables).

    Post a picture of yourself!

They're jalapeños, which actually makes it even worse due to their burning hotness. Luckily I'm a masochist!

    Knee-Deep in Doom Media

As tends to happen with each new Doom release, Doom 3: BFG Edition has generated a fair amount of buzz in the gaming media and fandom. Here are several noteworthy bits from the last few weeks:Famous developers shared memories of first playing Doom.Matt Barton discussed Doom level design with Sandy Petersen.Rooster Teeth presented Five Facts about Doom. The Steam community hub for the BFG Edition surpassed the Doom II, Doom and Resurrection of Evil hubs in the number of community contributions, and is rapidly closing in on the Doom 3 hub.

    Chocolate Doom

Someone recently dropped by #chocolate-doom to ask about using Doomseeker for finding and launching Chocolate Doom multiplayer games. He said he wasn't able to join a game and that Chocolate didn't even launch. Unfortunately he left before I could ask him further details on the issue. So out of curiosity I tried setting up Doomseeker on my own system (Win7). I believe I've configured it correctly, with correct paths to the IWADs and game executable(s). But when I choose to join the only available (empty) server and configure the match launch parameters in the Doomseeker popup window, Doomseeker simply crashes upon trying to launch Chocolate. I've tried numerous different parameter strings, but they all seem to crash Doomseeker. What gives?

Being possessed by demonic tentacle food is fun, trust me. I speak from experience.

    Hell on Steam returns

To add to the news bit, Ultimate Doom and Doom II also got the price cut, which is definitely good news. I see the new pricing a much better fit for these games, considering their age and distributed format. However, I do hope the Master Levels situation isn't permanent. Steam was the last retail outlet selling them (excluding the second-hand market), after all. Perhaps also worth a mention is the removal of three Doom 3 engine games: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Prey and the 2009 Wolfenstein remake. They were removed earlier though, and their removal most probably isn't related to the BFG Edition.

Looking for Doom 2 pre-release screenshots

Excellent work digging this stuff up, thank you. I added some of these to the wiki, namely the pre-release arachnotron and the cool model rotations video.

    PrBoom-Plus, ver. 2.5.1.4

Have you tried setting process_affinity_mask in the cfg to zero? Which MIDI player are you using? And perhaps running the executable as the admin could help.

You Got The BFG Edition! Oh, Yes.

They didn't? I thought Quasar had already found evidence supporting an Xbox-heritage. Not that I've ever seen the evidence myself. If any technical details are actually documented somewhere, it should definitely be added to the wiki's Xbox and Xbox 360 articles. Also, I'd like to see some research and documentation effort put into the (possible) differences between the XBLA classic Dooms and the BFG Edition ones. Might actually start on that tomorrow myself.

    The Psy Gangnam Style Phenonemon

The mashup combining Gangnam Style with the Cheetahmen theme needs more love. It used to be on YouTube as well, but apparently PSY's record label DMCA'd it.

How was/is cooperative in vanilla Doom?

I gotta add a little pointer for folk playing vanilla/Chocolate cooperative and lacking voice chat. Run the game with a WAD that makes the pause graphic invisible (here's one), pause the game when a nasty situation arises and then use the text chat to come up with a coordinated plan as necessary. Make sure it's ok with your teammates to pause the game beforehand, though. An interesting, survival-esque variation of vanilla coop is to mutually agree not to use player respawn, restarting the level and server upon all players dying. If it feels too challenging, keep in mind that vanilla allows mid-game saving in multiplayer too. Thus allowing a save or two during a level can make things feel more relaxed. Of course all this requires closing and restarting the game executable, so setting up shortcuts or batch files for the stuff makes it much less of a hassle. Personally I feel there have been many great campaign coop games during the last few years. Off the top of my head I could recommend Alien Swarm, Castle Crashers, Jamestown, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Orcs Must Die 2, Rayman Origins, Renegade Ops, Sanctum, Streets of Rage Remake and the Trine games. If you need further ideas, this site should be helpful.

    Compet-n Resurrected

After nearly a 7-year hiatus, Compet-n has been reopened at a new address and server, under the direction of Zvonimir "fx" Bužanić. For the most part it uses the classic Compet-n rules and design, although the FTP services have been replaced and various renovations are being planned. Further details on the new site and its goals are found on the forums. Regardless of the reopening, the old defunct Compet-n will remain at Doom2.net in its archived form.

    Doom cheat codes tattoo

Looks like someone got an IDDQD/IDKFA tattoo. Apparently it's been circulating the web for a while now, but I didn't manage to find any old threads about it here. Hence this post, sorry if this is old news.
