    Weapon Centering

Seen this posted a couple of times but no success. I'm looking to recreate the weapon sprite locking behaviour from vanilla doom FOR ZDoom based ports which currently only allow immediate weapon centering. I understand this seems like a bizarre request and most see the change as absolutely necessary but the old behaviour is something that I miss. Why don't you use alternative source ports you ask? Every other source port aside from ZDoom/GZDoom suffer from minimal mouse delay to some downright irritating skipping whilst playing which is less tolerable than the weapon centering. Anyone able to point in the right direction?

    Run/Walk

    That worked perfectly. Thank you.

    Run/Walk

Hello, I wanted to talk about the autorun feature of Eternity and how running whilst toggled off is possible but walking whilst toggled on is not. Is there a way that I can enable this? Or is there an intention to implement this later? It's not game breaking of course but I heavily use the run/walk key in this way. Thanks.

    BFG Edition and custom wads.

I tried what you suggested and attempted to load scythe by renaming it to doom2.wad and placing it in scythe>wads>doom2.wad Then I loaded the mod by adding '+set fs_game scythe' to the command line (Steam version) which resulted in an instant crash as soon as Doom2 is loaded. I thought this might work because I figured it operated by filling in all the gaps in the scythe wad with the stock game data but apparently not so. Could you direct me to software that would enable me to merge wads together?
  5. Curious as to whether BFG edition would be capable of running custom wads somehow and even final doom. I first tried simply renaming plutonia.wad or tnt.wad into doom2.wad and this seems to work as long as you don't try to quit the game or access any other bfg exclusive game aspects. I then tried to rename a custom wad such as scythe.wad to nerve.wad and play the wad through the 'No Rest for the Living' episode. This worked flawlessly up until level 8 where it finishes the episode as that is where the nerve episode finishes. I then tried to find some software that would allow me to merge any wads of my choice together whilst overwriting any files that might already exist (i.e maps, textures etc.) hopefully creating a final product that would have all of the BFG necessary files whilst overwriting any files within with the custom wad's content resulting in a BFG compatible custom wad sort of thing. Unfortunately with this stage the only two programs I could find were DeepSea (No idea how to use it) and WadMerger (Instant crash upon attempting to merge anything together, I also suspect that it isn't actually meant for what I am trying to do). I realise this is a pretty pointless thing to try as there are numerous source ports out there that function correctly and have far more capabilities than the BFG port. I would like to know however if anyone else had attempted and had any success with this?

    [ZDoom] Weapon Centre Lock

Actually I downloaded Odamex earlier and tried it. :) I noticed it had two mouse modes (Classic and ZDoom), with the classic mode I experienced the same issues I do with Prboom/Chocolate/Eternity but the ZDoom mode was even more jerky than the previous and I have no idea why. :/

    [ZDoom] Weapon Centre Lock

I haven't extensively tested DOSBox but a quick playthrough using what comes installed with the Steam version of Final Doom showed extremely minimal skipping with the mouse and probably works the best out of it and the aforementioned source ports so far (Apart from Zdoom). As for trying to solve issues with the source ports, I found that the skipping can be caused by using high-dpi mouse settings with low screen resolutions and setting both of these low and high respectively did improve the mouse quite a bit. Unfortunately it is still very noticeable and for the sake of being a fussy git I would rather not use DOSbox and the source ports feel too horrible to continue using them. :( Which is why, if possible, I would like to learn how to construct something myself that would enable ZDoom/GZDoom to emulate the vanilla compatible source ports more closely in a visual sense. The whole weapon-centre business is a big part of that feeling. If anyone could provide any guidance on that it would be greatly appreciated. :)

    [ZDoom] Weapon Centre Lock

Hello, To avoid comments such as 'Just play PrBoom+' I am going to start this post off by saying that throughout the course of today I have been trying to find out why ports such as Chocolate Doom, PrBoom+ and Eternity are causing me to have mouse problems whilst ZDoom/GZDoom's mouse works perfectly. I have since found that this is due to the engines being SDL based. Because the mouse movement is extremely skippy and unbearable in these SDL ports, I have decided that my preferred engine will be ZDoom. However, I made this post because I wanted to know if there are any DIY ways of fixing certain things about this port that I dislike. I have been able to sort transparent projectiles, bullet holes and blood marks by finding a file called 'Cleanrender.pk3'. The final issue is that of the weapon centre locking. When you fire, the weapon sprite automatically shifts and locks at the centre until firing stops whereas in vanilla and the ports mentioned above, the sprite locks in the position that it was just before the firing started. I wanted to know if there was a way that I could make something that would emulate this older style as I have already been told that it is not possible using zdoom cvars. Thanks. :) tl;dr can I make a wad/pk3 that will emulate old weapon locking style.
  9. Oh after that many years in confinement I could totally see Shephard boning the first female corpse he comes across but i'm thinking his flirting ability and general communications skills will have gone down the drain since then. :) Mind you, Gordon was hardly the romantic type either...
  10. Shephard looks more like a college student than a hardened soldier. It was cool to watch I do enjoy other people's attempts at stuff like this but the resistence's lack of 'holy shit world apocalypse' look with styled hair and what not is sort of off putting. Also involving shephard with a woman at the end is not something I could see Valve deciding to do should they ever bring Shephard back.

Most overrated and most underrated doom port?

The way the weapon sprite automatically shifts back to the center whilst firing in the Zdooms is horrible. That is just my personal opinion however, I still use both of them. Is there a way to turn that off? :S

Despite using Doom95 for the majority of my time playing Doom (Pre-Source ports) I couldn't see any reason for trying to find a way to bring it back. With DOSbox or Chocolate Doom you're looking at a next to perfect version of the original 1.9exe anyway, Doom95 was a buggy windows port. I do have a sort of nostalgia using it though, but if I could find a wad that replicated the way Doom95 chopped half of the weapon sprites off then I could easily consider Doom95 completely dead and would never look back. Not that I consider it alive now by any means.

Not sure if this is off-topic a bit but I think a doom equivalent of 'Quake Injector' linked up to /idgames with added source port frontend options would be pretty badass. Of course I would have no idea how to accomplish such a thing...

Most overrated and most underrated doom port?

This is wholly true. Even if one port is more widely used than others, there is at least something new for each. I see no harm in having multiple source ports installed on ones computer, I have 7 currently.

You'd probably be better off checking out the screenshots section on it's website rather than looking for videos, they are few. Also, I remember reading at one time or another that Doomsday was someday due to have numerous updates removing limits and adding ACS so I think that could be a huge contender with Zdoom in the future (For those that don't mind prettiness).
