  1. MSGS seems to dislike playing overlapping notes in short sequence, so the prior note(s) completely glitch or cut out sometimes. Listen to the string part in the beginning of "Waltz of the Demons" and you'll know what I mean here. This sounds like what might be happening in that first YouTube example, and funny enough it sounds "better" because of that.

    MIDI Originals [08/20/19]

I've finally decided to and got around to sharing my original MIDI compositions. The XG collection I created using the Yamaha XG Softsynth on my old (now virtually dead) laptop from several years ago. The MP3 recordings of the XG MIDIs are a little off beat probably since I rerecorded them on the tailing edge of that laptop's life. The GM links contain my most recently completed originals including MP3 recordings using a Roland SoundCanvas soundfont for playback which I now use regularly. MIDI Originals [08/20/19]

Go right ahead. Although it was not my intention to make these with Doom projects in mind (if that's the case). Then again I did make them loopable, so I suppose it works. I put a lot of effort in these, so I appreciate that. Trying to get these to sound decent on both this SC-55 soundfont I'm using and the Microsoft synth can be a real pain not to mention the lack of support for subpatch instruments. As for Soundcloud, Bandcamp, etc., the idea is still in the air. One thing preventing me from doing so is rather silly: Making or finding fitting images (covers) for each piece and not get copyright-flagged for it.

"Nimbus" and "Expanse" added to MP3 and MIDI.

    MIDI Originals [08/20/19]

Special additions this time. I managed to power up and get my old laptop running long enough to make two recordings of incomplete and now-abandoned works I haven't heard in nearly ten years. And I get flooded with old memories in the process. That said, "Azure" and "Drifter" have been added the MP3 directory in my Dropbox. (Reminder: they are incomplete)

Huh, I wonder how those sound through that. I could risk trying to start up my 15-year old laptop with the synth installed to find out hoping for no blue screen.

Added "Nucleus (Extended)" MP3 recording and MIDI.

"Ascension" added to MP3. Edit: Threw in the midis as well (zip).
  9. If I'm understanding this correctly, this is one of my favorite (if not the favorite) music style(s) that just drags me in for more. This goes back to the way the Zone Of The Enders music worked. More recent examples I can come up from the top of my head are LoZ: Skyward Sword and Celeste, and I'm sure there are plenty more. I just never knew what the style was called.

    MIDI Originals [08/20/19]

"Luminous", "Pyre", and "Red Sand" added. I'm still thinking about it, though the Microsoft synth itself might not like a couple of them too well with the use of some instruments that are absent.

"Crystalline", "Cybernetic", and "Plexus" added to MP3. Have at it. Also thinking about Soundcloud in the possible future...? Also, bump.

Post Your Doom Picture (Part 2)

I'm getting OoT Fire Temple vibes personally, except darker and with less stone. It's missing the numerous and iconic stone-shaped structures of Bowser's face put all over the place anyway. This may be the first time I have ever seen anybody use fire effects like this in Doom (the timed fire walkway is just awesome). But again, I'm not very observant nor knowledgeable with (UDMF) projects. "In a distant future, UAC experimentation with artificially-created singularities triggers a major cosmological event resulting with Jupiter merging with Saturn..." Seriously, that skybox really sets the mood.
  13. FMOD Ex supports GS instruments in versions of (G)Zdoom before the switch to OpenAL. They are also present in soundfonts based on MSGS (e.g. sc-55.sf2 and the like). It's a bummer that they don't work otherwise.
  14. Thread link to my works, old and recent. All hobby-based and not professional if that's allowed. Seeing above posts kind of makes me wonder how I'd be if I stuck with my instrument(s) from my childhood.
  15. I'm all for this idea of what I am interpreting as "closet" composers showing off their talent and what they are capable of. I have been dusting off my skills from back in 2005 recently. One of these days I'll start making stuff that will fit well with Doom and will sound decent through the default MS synth with its low poly limit and lack of working GS instruments (as opposed to just using a soundfont based off of it). So far that hasn't been the case. I'm also juggling around a bunch of other obligations as of late.

Post Your Doom Picture (Part 2)

Getting Castlevania vibes from this. All that's left to do now is copy it, recolor it, and flip it upside down (if only the process was that simple).

@Dragonfly Please tell me you've used Tales Of Old.mid by Stewboy, and this map would be total bliss in my mind.

Post Your Doom Picture (Part 2)

Not too familiar with the AA texture pack, but doesn't it have some sort of short mid texture equivalent to those other mid textures at the left for this sort of thing? You did show the use of one of the MIDRAIL textures in a later shot. I personally think MIDRAIL2 would work good here, but it's really not that big of a deal in my opinion.

    MIDI Originals [08/20/19]

A few updates: Removed GM zip and created/linked MP3 directory containing GM originals (link at main post). Added "Relic" to MP3 directory. Updated and cleaned up main post a bit to accommodate changes.

It looks like a mix between the Moai heads from the Gradius series and Olmec from Legends of the Hidden Temple.

A brief thought on Aubrey Hodges

Oh yeah, I forgot about The Factory. I also forgot "Lurkers" was used in Ghost Town as well. Here is an honorable mention. For myself whose first experience with E4 was with PSX Doom, "Hopeless Despair" was quite effective as an opener.

A brief thought on Aubrey Hodges

Several immediately come to mind still to this day after 17 years of first playing through the PSX series. My personal top ones that give that feeling of "synesthesia" or something similar is the one used for Hell Keep and Aztec -- the "bees in a can" one -- can't remember the title offhand. There is also "Lurkers" (Fortress of Mystery, Pandemonium, Suburbs, etc.) which really stood out for me for some reason and to this day kicks in at nighttime after a heavy rainfall.

what are you working on? I wanna see your wads.

Three works in progress, two of them sitting in limbo at the moment (the first three screenshots): WIP 1 - Area in progress, untouched for quite some time now. WIP 2 - Inside area. Map is currently in the item placement stage. I may have shown part of this area before in the Doom pictures thread. Same map; Outside area. WIP 3 - Current map I am actively working on. Item placement plus other tweaks. Finishing up this particular area before I move on to another. Pardon the issue with brightness.

    Liquid Oxygen

The first thing that popped into my head... But yes, there are oxygenated slurry solutions and perfluorocarbon liquids used for medical applications for when a patient's pulmonary system is severely damaged. As for actual liquid oxygen, simply no, for the most obvious reason being the extreme temperature difference.
