    Warming Up
  1. A friend of mine showed me one of those rubber chicken videos (youtube.com/watch?v=4DRFJnZjpMM). Then I thought: "What if the monsters in Doom sounded like that?" This wad is the result of that stupid idea. It simply replaces all monster sounds of episode 1 with those of rubber chickens. More specifically with the sounds from the linked video. Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iswwyrjsj4u8xf4/rubberchicken.wad?dl=0 Made with SLADE and GoldWave. For Ultimate Doom. It took about an hour. It's a simple sound replacement. It should work with any source port, including vanilla doom.

HELP! Super Sonic Doom Doesn't work!!

My SuperSonicDoom version is the latest. And I just tried running with GZDoom 1.5.06 r1104, and it works ok, but the blue card door (with the pistol inside) still don't open "visually" (i can get through it though)! At first, I thought this was some kind of problem with the source port. I didn't even bother playing more of the game because I expected more problems like this in the later levels. But since this version is specified on the .txt, I guess this may be just a bug and the game will work fine. What confused me was the Ultimate DooMer website: it gives the download for the lates SSD version and for the old required version (.94f)... If i only had read the .txt... Anyway, lesson learned, and thanks for everybody for helping me!!
  3. How do I run this damn wad?! The specified ZDOOM version crashes (Fatal error: mapinfo line 10: bad syntax) and any other version does the same thing or run the game not correctly... Someone, help! Even google couldn't do it!
  4. Yeah, I've heard that too. They added it later as joke in response to any comments saying that the game was easy in UV (in fact, the 3 episodes of Doom ARE easy). I remember that Doom 1.0 (shareware) and 1.1 didn't have Nightmare skill.
  5. I'd rather do that too. When i played on Nightmare, I got stuck in E1M9 in UDoom and MAP02 in Doom 2... But I kinda like Nightmare! It's a real adrenalin pumper! (sorry if this term is not correct...)

Your thoughts on using Novert in Vanilla DOOM.

INDEED! But doom isn't a game, it's THE game :D

Your thoughts on using Novert in Vanilla DOOM.

I think mouse movement useful sometimes. After playing Wolfeinstein 3D mostly with mouse, and keyboard for running only, you get used to this.
  8. oh good to know! thanks for the info. hex!
  9. this question may sound dumb/obvious, but i want to do everything right in this map. Here's the thing: I'm thinking about making my first doom II map and I want it to have new music. Although it's only one level, I want to put E2M8 song on it. So, is it ok to put the D_E2M8.mid in this pwad? I mean, this is original doom data being distributed freely, so i really want to know if it's legal or not. P.S.: some of you may suggest me to put the map in E2M8 level slot. BUT I want doom 2 as the IWAD of this level because of the monsters and mainly because of the Super Shotgun.

    Windows 95-Styled Doom Music

Well, if it is THAT hard to emulate opl3, I think I'll just let it go. I'll wait source port developers to implement more opls emulation because i don't want to have headaches with it. By now, I think I can create a wad with the mp3 records like the one in the original post. Anyway, thanks for help everybody!

    Windows 95-Styled Doom Music

I see. I searched about the genmidi, but I don't have any idea of where and how to search those files. And considering that I'm miles away from that computer... I'm only having acess to it in july and december. At least I discovered which synthesis it used: Crystal FM Synthesis (OPL3 branch). Oh! During my search, i've found a genmidi.wad in id games database that sounded a little (very little) closer to the one I want. So I thought there may be another ones out there. I could't find any... So I aprappreciate if anyone knows a genmidi wad that acts like Crystal FM. That would solve my problem.

Thats the problem... i don't know any detailed specification of that machine. The only thing I can remember that could be helpful is the model (COMPAQ PRESARIO 524). About that mp3, I recorded it using dosbox and goldwave: I installed windows 3.1 with Sound Blaster 16 driver under dosbox, played the midi there and captured the sound using goldwave.
  15. Greetings everybody, this is my first thread and I have a doubt: Back in 1999, I used to play doom a lot using the DOOM 95 port under Windows 95 (of course). Because of the old midi-mapper, the songs were a kinda different from today and some were even better (my opinion). Now that I want to listen to them again, I was wondering: "Is possible to emulate them in modern source ports?" Here's a sample of how was it: http://www.mediafire.com/?c5tq8w3gp3to7pd (E1M1)
