http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-editing/55289-doom-builder-2-monsters-not-showing-up-upon-testing-map/ I found this thread and a solution in it. What I did wrong: I didn't check the singleplayer flag. (as Gez was suggesting) (but then - why start marker works without it?) Somehow I naively thought that was too obvious to be a matter at all. Sorry for taking your time.

"Have you tried in GZDB or plain old DB2? They don't have the same config files". DB2 I tried now to switch configuration from zDoom's Strife in Hexen format I was using to simply Strife. And: no things present in the visual mode - but things present in test. Still, the thing is, I'd like to use all features zDoom provides. Well, at least some of them.
-
I was trying to use default Strife sprites (npcs, weapon, decoration...). As I mentioned, they do appear in game (Strife run with zDoom and Strife alone). For what I remember, I had the same problem when I was using WAD file from the original CD (currently I'm using one downloaded from the Internet). edit: Since sprites work with in game but not in tests I changed the thread name to be more descriptive. I'll try to run the modified WAD with zDoom and see does it work. Even if it will do, that won't solve the testing problem.

I've tried Strife modding Strife today - and the problem is the sprites just don't appear in the game world. It can be already seen in the Doom Builder (empty boxes where they should be displayed) - but I thought it's just a visual issue. When running test they simply don't exist like they were not put there. There is no such issue while working with the original Doom WAD. Strife alone works just fine.

I know this is not the best and most flexible palette in the Universe, but it works for what I need. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/801/dystopian.png/ Thank you so much ;]

"So, first: do you have a single palette, or the full range of 14 palettes needed?" One palette (256 colors). The other 13 are those which are used when player gets damage? From what I saw XWE editor has an option to apply necessary changes to the original palette. What is the proper format?
-
Ok, but that doesn't help much - I know what palette is - I don't know how to put a custom one in the game.
-
How to import custom palette and replace standard palette from Doom?
-
Thanks a lot! :) That already helped. The problem is, it don't know how to start :/ I made a lot of scripts using older rpg makers but that was sort of Lego bricks instead of "real" programming. I mean, I know how the thing works in theory but I don't know how to get it running in practice.

Something happened. When I changed exe. to bat. as port in Doom Builder settings the game started. The game - not the map I wanted to test. Selecting new game started the first level - worked on Strife, Doom didn't run at all. Maybe I will post this map here and somebody will see is everyting ok. Ok?
-
I tried running test on Strife-based map. Still the same thing. The Wad I'm using is clear (original Strife WAD, no changes done). I choose to run the test without parameters but the editor still and still says there's something wrong with the parameter. Dragging map WAD over Strife exe didn't help too.

I thought Doom is freeware. Nevermind. Ok, I'll try do reverse all this chaos I made and I'll get you know is everything working. btw, when does a game becomes abbadonware / freeware?

"You're going to be yelled at by many people for modifying an IWAD (doom.wad doom2.wad). Don't do that." What about total conversions?
