How. Fucking. Dare you.
Bethesda, how dare you make Id butcher their game like this for the secret levels in Doom 2 and fucked up Doom 3 by making it easier with more ammo, reducing FOV to 60, making it brighter and making the flashlight an attachment to the armor the PC wears.
I may not have purchased this inferior product but I have the original Doom 3 and Doom games, which the latter was severely hampered but I have read on the Bethsoft BFG Edition subforum and Steam subforum for Doom series. First of all, modding is impossible with the included Doom 3 version due to running on Id Tech 5 (Rage's engine) and not Id Tech 4, next you have changes that should have been left alone, such as Sarge's texture changed but the comm videos were not. You also have it stuck to 60 FOV instead of a normal 90 in the original, which is an obvious consolization tweak and narrow field of view. Ammo is also more plentiful and it is brighter thanks to console command r_overbright 2 (default is 1 in D3). All these changes to Doom 3 make it more like an action game instead of a horror shooter like the back of the original game's back of box mentions!
Now to what is wrong with the classic games, they put back in the random pitch variations from Doom v1.1 which I don't think you can turn off and are highly annoying, the menu is clunky and ugly since they did some changes to it, stimpacks and medikits have a pill icon and not a cross thanks to Red Cross being a bunch of babies whining about the use of the cross icon. The most significant change is to the Doom 2 secret levels, all of the Nazi/Hitler pictures on the walls were removed from the walls, the level's musics and level names were changed (IDKFA and Keen respectively) and there's no SS soldiers, they were replaced by easy zombiemen, both in game and in the Doom2 data file. You'd think they'd only censor it only for Germany, right? Wrong, it's censored internationally!
For people new to Doom, I highly advise buying the original classics off Steam for $9.99 each while they are still available, because you cannot purchase original Doom 3 on there, it's either this inferior BFG Edition or the Id Superpack for $99.99.- Show previous comments 43 more

This reminds me of the time D&D 3e came out and everyone was up in arms because they redically changed the game (well compared to how relatively compatible the older editions were amongst themselves), and the old version went out of print. Eventually they sold PDF versions of the older editions, but those too stopped being available, around the time D&D 4e came out. Then a bunch of the 3e fanbois who were laughing at the old edition fanbois got pissed off when 4e came out and made their massive investment of books and supplements obsolete. And I'm sure the same pattern will repeat again and again...
But, some of the older fans said the hell with all this crazy shit and started making their own versions of the game, based on the spirit of their prefered ruleset (not identical copies, but let's say 99% compatible). It's a bit like Freedoom and other projects like that. At some point the game companies are going to leave you high and dry, and it's up to you to pick up the ball. Well the thing is those companies aren't even the same ones that created the game in question, the IP having been sold (sometimes several times over the years) and most or all of the original developers long gone. At some point you have to realize and accept that those companies aren't relevant anymore, and it's not worth caring about what they do. -

I bought the 360 version since I hadn't played it in a while and my PC at the time wasn't fast enough to run it at an entirely enjoyable frame-rate. I'm having an easy time on Veteran but it's still a fun shooter to me.
I did notice one bug that may be new and I am not sure if it is related to the changed FOV. If I back up against a flat wall, facing away, then look straight up, I can see outside the map. It's as if I can peek into the negative space between areas. :p

I went to the Tanger Outlet over here to one of the stores that had hot sauces my brother got for me on my birthday back in April. While there this afternoon, I picked up this and two other bottles.
For those who don't know, Naga Jolokia, also known as the ghost pepper/chili is one of the hottest peppers in the world which taps in around 1 million Scovilles, with Jalapenos being a mere 2,500 to 8,000 on the scale.

This afternoon around 1:15pm while returning from the gym, a lone guy in a car pulled up to the corner just around from my street asked me if I wanted to buy some pot. I respectfully declined and he drove off.
As much as I don't care about the use of pot or the sale of it, I would be more concerned if he was offering me something heavier such as cocaine, meth or heroin.

I didn't at the time. Anyway, the two go together extremely badly. Alcohol and chess are fine (maybe only knock off about 200 Elo points for being pretty much blind drunk - for blitz chess at least*), whereas cannabis more or less scrambles the chess thought process.
* And of course there were some Russian GMs (Kholmov, and Tal to some extent, spring to mind) who were perma-drunks. -

When I post in the Doomworld Facebook group, I don't expect irrelevant shitposting in the topic. I'm not asking for one to be 100% in line but don't be posting irrelevant memes or Halo material in a Doom group for the sake of getting reactions of others. It looks immature and childish in my eyes.
Some joking/funny relevant material can be OK but don't unload crap onto my topic because a select handful (which got shitcanned from the group) did and thought they could get away with it.
That is what /b/ and other places is for, not the Doomworld FB group.

Heh, well, I'm not that familiar with Mr. Delayed. Even as dumb and persistent that this guy is, are you certain he'd want to go through the trouble of setting up new YouTube accounts (a far more intensive procedure than in years past)?
As long as he's blocked from the channel with no responses toward his crap, I can't imagine anybody trying more than 10 times. AFAIK, YouTube does not indicate to users when they've been blocked and will still let them post, but those posts won't be visible to anyone else. As long as they don't investigate, they might just think that nobody bothers to interact with them.

I am done with Brutal Doom, after supporting it since 0.7. Got tired of editing all the unbalancing crap with each version and having all the feature creep and the controversy with the N word comment in the older version as well as Mark telling a suicidal person to off themself (if this is verifiable)

I can careless about the controversies about some of SGTMarkIV's actions. I'm not really that crazy over Brutal Doom anymore. He should have just stopped at version .17 in my opinion. In regard to your youtube channel, I think you made the right decision to deviate away from Brutal Doom. There are plenty of other mods on the internet that have smooth weapon animations and other neat modifications to the gameplay.

My main problem with BD is him constantly adding more stuff to unbalance the gameplay. He's made DoomGuy basically invincible with overpowered you are. To try and counter that all he did was make enemies deal absolutely retarded levels of damange, regardless of what class they are. That doesn't really feel too great to play and doesn't even make a whole lot of sense. There are a few mods that do well to make use of the stuff he's implemented (I've seen a couple of Duke themed mods that looked fucking excellent), but on its own...its just weak.
I don't really care that he said what he said to one kid about suicide only because I'm honestly not all that surprised someone with a literal gore fetish would say some highly off the wall shit. Look at what he devoted the majority of his time to, not DooM itself, but pretty much doing everything he could to make an already bloody game bloodier than fucking hell and using actual images of gore and shit to do so. That means that he spent time scouring the internet and medical sites for pictures of really messed up injuries and stuff just to make some extra sprites, stuff that would normally...make me puke my own guts out. Obviously someone in that shape's got a few too many of their own issues so sympathy to another person's problems really isn't going to his strong point. We've all made gory maps before, not slighting anyone at all for that in and of itself (I know I've done it), but for Mark I really don't think he made BD just to make a super bloody mod...he just has always seemed the type to dwell on fucked up stuff like that and made it as somewhat of an outlet so he didn't have to constantly internalize it anymore. And there's my armchair psychology moment for the day.
The most annoying bug I encounter with the mod, which I've never seen him fix, is this bug where you're basically stuck and cannot move until you've burnt through certain ammo. Example, I started E1M2 and couldn't move right after I spawned into the map. I had to literally burn through all of my bullet ammo and the enigmatically I could move again. I seriously don't even get what would cause that, but since the first version I played of this thing (V16) its been there and its never been fixed and it just seems to happen completely at random during a level start. Shit that is annoying and seriously fuck up a gameplay session. -

Didn't Kevin Cloud use a picture of his own bloody knee for one of the textures in Doom?
In fact, a huge amount of the gore in Doom also stemmed from Adrian Carmack's past working as a photo copier in an ER room, where he got to see all kinds of awful injuries.
Really, the more you think of it the more you realize that using pictures of real gore and stuff is pretty common practice when creating gore in video games. At the very least, I know for a fact that the creators of Dead Space studied photos of the victims of car crashes in detail to create all of the gore in their game. You could argue it's disrespectful if the end results of such work let anybody recognize the source material (ie you can see XYZ's bloody face that was pulled from this photo of an explosion's aftermath), but merely pulling unidentifiable wounds from photos of carnage, cropping them, downscaling them, and editing them into oblivion can hardly be considered that offensive.
But then, I don't even know what Mark pulled from or what his end product was, so I guess I can't judge in this particular instance.

Yes, this is a Youtube issue for me in particular on my end. For the past month, I have had a small group of individuals simply downvoting all of my recent videos and it is grating on my nerves. I have tried disabling rating for a week once but it stopped it temporarily before it started again. I know they also have trolled MrThejoshmon before but not sure if they actually stopped or not.
I have 266 subs but about a sixtieth (about 10 or less, usually 5 at best) actually rate and comment the videos regularly which doesn't help at all and I don't know what to do to stop these idiots (super hardcore fans who love Burl Tumd and hate Brutal Doom to the core) once and for all.

I know my limits and this ain't for me. Usually eat a couple serrano peppers every days though. But those scales aren't that useful, because different crops can vary radically in the amount of "heat" they pack. I've had jalapenos that are about as bland as bell peppers, and others that have me crying like a baby.

For me, anything hotter than bell peppers are more heat than flavor, and thus completely pointless to me. I do, however, have plenty of respect for the Bachelor's Secret Weapon (aka hot sauce). I can't count how many bachelor dinners have been transformed from "four pounds of tasteless mush" to "fine Mexican cuisine" with the skillful addition of hot sauce and soft tortillas.

Well, my desktop computer finally croaked on the 25th after about 8 years of use and periodic component upgrades. Looks like I'll have to save money up for parts to build something new.

Speculation is Q1 2017 at this point, maybe Q4 2016 at the earliest.
I hope for an AMD come back but I don't think it's worth waiting to find out if a new system is needed.
I made the mistake of waiting on Bulldozer in 2011 when my PC was due for replacement, it failed to match existing hardware which resulted in my putting up with an inadequate system for an extra 4 or 5 months for no reason whatsoever. -

All goofiness side, I got this game on Steam from a friend as a gift and just as I was gonna dive in, I found out I could not change the movement controls to arrows from WASD. I mean, really...not everyone uses WASD as movement!

I use ESDF as well. Mostly because you can reach more keys, partly because WASD is so mainstream.
I can live with WASD. What bugs me more is when a game has an absurdly long list of controls that I have to memorize before I can start playing. I once read an article where someone, as a thought experiment, figured out how a modern shooter (I forget which one) could theoretically be played with a one-button Atari joystick. It is possible to simplify things. -

Whoever is doing the prank calls has to stop now. It is bordering on harassment (if not harassment now) as it's been going on for about 3 weeks. Someone ordered Domino's online and some poor delivery guy showed up at 10 AM to my residence.
Somebody who knows my BVV Facebook page apparently did that and the post was 6 hours ago but the contents of the user's post didn't appear hostile but it did address me by first name, which is nowhere on my Youtube FB channel page but on my Steam (which I cleared just now).

Actually, I should already know this. I got to try Golden Corral a couple of months ago and they had pizza slices during their breakfast buffet.
No pizza places here are open until at least twelve noon, and you have to deal with fast food restaurants' crappy breakfast menus up until around then too. -

Ahh right. I see. Well, I stick around at newdoom because there is some pretty decent people there, but wmull is a nazi. You basically cannot say anything at all controversial, and especially about newdoom. I mean, someone was starting a mod (was it you Striker?) and I told them to come and post about it here too because there is more people (which is an absolute fact) and I get a warning email from wmull that it was inappropriate. I was only trying to help the guy publicise his project ffs.
It's just... ultra-sanitised. Over here there's more bitching and mild flames and stuff, but it often results in humour. Over there, it's squeaky clean, with no real action. -

We saw him on Sunday wheelchairbound on Sunday but the following day his condition worsened by Monday. He was seen by most of my immediate family on Tuesday (his 80th birthday) which he was on life support. I got the news this morning that he passed away, which is saddening and which will likely upset my mother, grandmother, uncle and others.

I bought a £1 headset (Which died today :( very sad) and it served me well until the point I accidentally ripped out the wire from the jack and it was as good as any £20+ headset other than it was just a cheap piece of plastic instead of a thick leathery thing.
It also resulted in this thread because my camera is not a good microphone. -
I got the ATH-M50 recently. With Razer Surround any gaming sounds quite decent, and it's quite good for the composing I've been doing recently.

Well, I just heard this morning my brother got beat up by his ex-gf/best friend's older brother, who serves in the military. The worst thing of it all, as it was unprovoked! I'm really angry right now at Stephanie's (Thomas's ex-gf and friend) older brother.
I mean what the fuck, that's so wrong to hurt someone on their birthday, I would have tried to defend him if I were there with him when it happened last night.

The problem is that the brother can get sent to jail for doing that. Anyone in the US with military training is thought of as trained to kill, so beating someone up is legally akin to "assault with a deadly weapon". If the birthday boy is so inclined, he can get a hefty sum... of course, that also means losing a friendship-- but if she's also his ex, I'm pretty sure he's explored all areas of that relationship.
