OK, that's a kind of linux then. I think this may work : 1/ Download some good WAD from https://www.doomworld.com/idgames//index.php?dir=levels/doom2/megawads/&sort=rating&direction=desc For example a good old classic like Scythe : https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/scythe Unzip the .zip in some directory (on linux, I like to create a /home/user/WAD directory) 2/ In the /Home/user/WAD directory (or anyplace you put your WADs in), create a script file, for example named scythe.sh In the script file, put some text like "freedoom -file ./scythe/SCYTHE.WAD" or "prboom-plus -file ./scythe/SCYTHE.WAD" or "prboom -file ./scythe/SCYTHE.WAD" (it depends on what software your chromebook is running) Make the script executable. Anytime you want to play scythe, run your scythe.sh script. That's it.

Are there any megawads that are more linear and less running around the map?

SLIGE-generated WADs -
Chex Quest 3 : totally kids-friendly (it's a revised expansion on a game available in cereal boxes in the 90's) made for zdoom (in fact, it includes a version of zdoom) very cool it's an IWAD (does not require Doom WAD to work) It's here : http://www.chucktropolis.com/gamers.htm

Currently testing SLIGE + Populator... Globally very cool, except when a Cyberdemon is met in a corridor at the beginning of a level (and you really need a rocket launcher and places to hide) I'm having fun anyways !

A few weeks ago, a John Carmack meeting room has been inaugurated in my workplace ! Previously, we had a handful of meeting rooms named after some computer celebrities (Alan Turing, Grace Hopper, Tim Berners-Lee...) but the latest batch of room-naming was decided by proposing names and voting on the intranet. I'm happy, two of my proposals have met success : John Carmack and Blaise Pascal. (Also "elected" : Richard Stallman & Linus Torvalds, Steve Jobs & Wozniak...)

An electrical extension, I guess. They're crawling everywhere under the floor slabs.
-
I don't have the exact number of voters, but we're several old doomers at the office. ;)
-
Same. "WASD" makes no sense on a French keyboard, and "ZQSD" does not look like a cool acronym.

My current avatar is a antagonist from "Invasion from the Unknown", a cyberpunkish add-on for the Battle for Wesnoth game. Here is she, unmasked : I haven't played the IftU extension yet, but I find the concept and the art very cool.

.kkrieger was in my list, on the previous page. I've forgotten a "classic" : Anacreon 4021 One of the earlier "4X" games (Xploration, Xpansion, Xploitation, Xtermination), in which you run an interstellar empire, first published in 1987. There's a Windows edition - latest is v2.1d published in 2005, under 2.5 MB unzipped : http://neurohack.com/anacreon/ The graphically minimalist DOS version is still around (latest revision in 2004), it's under 1MB. There's also a new version online, but that's off-topic. Not really an action game, but very good anyways !

I used to own around 1700 role-playing game books and boxes, but before I married, last year, I've trimmed down my collection to around 40 books. I sold some books on eBay, but I gave away most of them, including a near-complete collection of Planescape and Mystara supplements, and other rare stuff. For example, here are the boxes I gave away ton one random guy in my hometown : Here's my full "collection now :

LAB (now v3) : https://mutantleg.itch.io/lab-v30 Excellent Wolfenstein-like 2.5D FPS, 5.6 MB unzipped.

Because it's a thread about games under 10MB ;-D There's another thread about small games whatever it means (under 100GB ?)

Since I'm also putting together a collection of games under 10MB (once unzipped), here's my list so far : Cave Story (cute metroidvania): 9,6 MB (with French-language files) HeroCore (minimalist metroidvania) : 6.8 MB HyperRogue (surreal roguelike) without music : 7,8MB NetHack (classic roguelike) : 8,25 MB Tile World (puzzle) : 7.7 MB .kkrieger (FPS) : 128 KB

I'm creating a simplified family tree, to ilustrate the French Wikipedia article https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portages_de_Doom It's based on information from https://doomwiki.org It's deliberately focused on Doom proper (not Heretic, etc.), I've not listed recently dead projects (Vavoom, ReMooD) and some minor ancestors (LxDoom, ATBDoom..)... What do you think of it ? Which information shall I add (or remove) ?

Doom Source Ports family tree (simplified, for Wikipedia)

You can add it if you want... I preferred to only list those ones : https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Comparison_of_source_ports and their major ancestors. It's available on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File_talk:Doom-Ports.png Here is it again : -

Doom Source Ports family tree (simplified, for Wikipedia)
soner du replied to soner du's topic in Source Ports
At first, I attempted to draw dotted lines for features borrowed from one port to another, but the result was very confusing ! By the way, should there be a direct link between DOOM and BOOM ? (in addition to the line bertween DOSDoom and BOOM) -

I used to make some attempts with flashy heuristic gizmos (like XMind or FreePlane) but Graphviz is an amazingly simple and powerful tool. OK, I'll include a legend, and separate EDGE & 3DGE. I'm not sure about moving nodes around ... I may try a few thing but I want to be as neutral as possible (after all, Chocolate doom is very advanced is its oldschoolness) and having to much stuff at the bottom could make thinks less readeable. -
Doom Source Ports family tree (simplified, for Wikipedia)

You're right, I may add EDGE above (Hyper)3DGE. Of course ! I will probably release this work (both the code and .png export) under CC0 licence. Are you sure about Risen3D ? Anyways, if some minor code or feature (like friendly dogs) has been borrowed from another port, I'm not putting it on the chart. At first, I tried to put dotted lines for such links, but the result was graphically confusing. DelphiDoom and Doom Retro are definitely BOOM-compatible, that's one of their goals. I don't know if Doom Classic is.
