  1. An extremely awful situation. I made the mistake of looking at the local news (only for the purpose of staying informed on the attacks) and saw comments from people saying the events were "false flags" and that the people fleeing in the videos were "crisis actors". I didn't expect to see so much evil and overwhelming stupidity here in Australia.

  2. Additionally, that DWANGO slip with the code on it for five free hours is actually from a retail Ultimate DOOM box.

I'd say you have a box/manual/addendum all from the original packaging, and either the seller long ago lost the (4) registered version disks long ago and padded it with the (2) shareware disks in a attempt to make it feel complete, or they bought the set without the (4) registered version disks, padded it with some shareware floppies they had laying around and sold it either to make it feel complete or hope the buyer didn't know the difference.

I saw the listing on eBay. The seller claimed they thought it was possibly a complete v1.666 release, clearly not understanding that the disks were from a shareware release.

As a side note, I wish Prince would've credited the original artists that he remixed. Even if what he's doing is allowed under copyright, not naming his source material is still plagiarism and something I strongly object to.

To be fair, Bobby Prince already credited the original artists in the actual MIDI files. It's also how some of the inspirations were identified in the first place. That metadata was simply lost in the conversion to MUS.

Similarly, the filename for the title music from Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure is MZZTOP, as the game's song is a cover of a ZZ Top song.

Bobby Prince was a good at writing bops when he borrowed one part of a rhythm or another but listen to something like his soundtrack for Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure or even Monster Bash to find out his limits.

Monster Bash's music was made by Rob Wallace, who also composed Apogee's Hocus Pocus. Monster Bash's music is both moody and quirky, and I think it fits the game.

The current 3D Realms is only a publisher. And their development studio, Slipgate Ironworks, seems to be struggling, with their projects such as Graven, Kingpin: Reloaded, and Phantom Fury suffering from delays, poor quality, and rushed development.

I managed to make a dismemberment animation, there are 4 animations compatible with both the shotgun guy and the zombieman, I also fixed the walking animation, it's more fluid, I'm still working on the textures when they die to make it more realistic

The gibs look like sea urchins. I also feel that the protrusions will not look good during gameplay, as such fine details will produce a lot of ugly aliasing/shimmering.

  7. Two additional DOOM movies were released, and they were apparently more faithful to the games (DOOM 2016/Eternal series). I tried to buy them, but I guess they sold out pretty quickly. At least one of them had a SteelBook release with a cover that had an overall pine green color scheme. Bafflingly, the movie had a blue M rating on the cover (the equivalent of the US PG-13 rating).

  8. Merry Christmas everyone!

This thread might be a little early, but I'm in Australia where there are 2 hours of Christmas left.

As is tradition, others can share what cool things they got. I've linked everyone's previous threads in the spoiler at the end of the post.

Some of the things I got:

    • Jurassic Park cap and shirt
    • Predator 4K
    • Ray Harryhausen Special Edition Collection (Blu-ray)
    • Speed 4K
    • Spider field guide books
    • Terminator Salvation Movie Companion book

Regarding the use of AI, as I said, we've used it when we saw fit, and yes, we used it for promotional images. And the question is, you don't like it? Well, I respect that, but you should respect what I want to do, or do I have to do what you want??

The Doom Awards posted AI-generated art on their Twitter account, and claimed it was made by their friend "MariaSteele", who doesn't seem to exist (I cannot find anyone by that name in the DOOM community who makes art). Why not just say it's AI-generated instead of making up imaginary people? At that point the use of AI isn't even the problem. You're just being dishonest.

  10. It's a good start, but I think animating the models and making the movement look natural is going to be the most difficult part of this project. Currently the Imp moves more like a damaged Terminator than an organic creature.

I think one of the reasons that there is yet to be a complete DOOM model set that actually looks good is that it's nigh impossible to create models that are faithful to the original sprites without them looking out of place. Additionally, DOOM's relatively simple AI with zig-zagging monsters means even well-animated models may still look weird in motion.

In case anyone is curious, images of the previous two DOOM model packs can be viewed here:

One thing is also true, is that many authors use samples from other sources in their soundfonts as well. Being either VST plugins, sample libraries or samples from other GM soundfonts. And what about FREE sample libraries? It's also true that there are also some free libraries that you are free to use tho.

Except that last part is irrelevant because you're not just using free sample libraries but instead are distributing copyrighted samples from various commercial libraries and VSTs.

  13. This is not related to the game itself, but some (not all) UK copies of the Depths of DOOM Trilogy box have the border of the id logo embossed. Also, these alternate boxes have much "deeper" embossing, especially around the Cyberdemon's hips and the edges of the games' box shots. The entire box is also glossy, while on the more common US-style box only certain parts are glossy, such as the game covers and screenshots.
