1. Chess Openings for Kids has recently been published. It's my first new book (as opposed to a new edition) for nearly a decade.

My co-author, John Watson, is one of the guys who inspired me to become a chess writer in the first place, so I was very pleased to be working with him on this project.

The illustrations (on the cover, and ten inside the book) are by Silverwyvern, creator of the Green Pile.

Copies should arrive in the USA in a few weeks*. You can preorder from Amazon.com, though I'm not sure if they'll release copies before the end of June.

    * Actually, they'll probably arrive in a few days, but could take weeks to clear customs/homeland security/the guy who checks there isn't too much lead in the paper, etc.

Lots and lots of kids play chess. An average 3-year-old is capable of learning the basic rules of the game. Quantum mechanics requires rather more previous study.

Yeah, I learned how to play chess when I was a kid. It's not hard at all to learn. I got bored with it real quick, though. I prefer tactical war games as opposed to strategic ones. :P

Funny - I've just heard that the dispatch of the books to the USA was delayed by about a week due to - guess what - the Royal Wedding.
