  1. I finally have beaten the original Doom, and while I imagine that I'll go into Thy Flesh Consumed sometime in the future, and move onto Hell on Earth, right now I'm looking to play some user generated episodes/maps within the first game. So yeah, I'm looking for suggestions. I guess I'm mainly looking for ones that are short, easy, and have little to no puzzle solving, although feel free to suggest levels that are completely outside of that realm, just please let me know that they are that way so I can plan accordingly. Oh, and while I'd appreciate at least some minor details on the episodes/maps that are suggested, I certainly don't want to stop anyone from giving suggestions, so by all means, say as much as you desire. Thank you for your time.
  2. Spoiler Waring: Unless you have beaten E3 of Doom, you may not want to read this, as I am about describe the last parts of the game. I finally got myself to beat Doom, a game I've been playing off and on for quite a while! So to start off, when I last played I was at e6, looking for the secret level. I found it in about 15 or so minutes. I notice right away that the bonus level looked like a modified version of E3M1, only it ended up leading me to yet another cyberdemon, and the way this little "arena" was set up, it was a lot harder to take cover. I probably kept getting killed for over a half hour before noticing the green ball, making me temporarily invulnerable, which made the boss considerably easier, even though it wore off a minute or so before I killed him, and I was left with way more rocket boxes than I needed, which was pretty cool! Anyways, the next to last level was easily the hardest of all of E3. Thankfully, I found the blue +100 health ball, and he vlue armor, and decided to save them till I found the exit, which took me a while since I couldn't find the switch that created the bridge to the exit. So yeah, fully armed with all ammo save for the chaingun, and with full health and max armor I headed into the last level. I went out of my way to concentrate on the final level music for bit. It...wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't anything special, especially compared E1M1. I looked for any final secrets in the hallway at the beginning, but I didn't find anything, not that I really needed them at this point, and I pulled out my BFG, a weapon I had specifically been saving for the area. Without thinking, I ended up using about 3 shots of the weapon on a few cacodemons, and then found the last boss, which turned out to be a...giant robot spider?!!! Anyways, he turned out be the easiest boss in the game, as all I had to do was charge and shoot him with the BFG about 8 or so times. I think I still had about enough ammo to shoot the gun at least 6 more times when I killed him, and my thought were "That's it? Seriously?!!!!" The ending of course left on a cliffhanger, which, correct me if I'm wrong, basically points out that you stopped demons from attack the planet earth...or did you! The beat the game music pretty disappointing too, Anyways, other than the last 15 minutes or so of the game, I had a lot of fun with Doom, so I have to say that I highly recommend this game to anyone who's into first person shooters. Oh, and technically, since I'm playing ULTIMATE Doom, I still have one more episode left to go, but until I do that, I'd like to try out a few user generated maps for the original Doom, preferably ones that are short, easy, and have little to no puzzle solving. But I think I'll ask for that in another topic. Oh, and if you want my thought on E1 and 2, check them out here: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-general/59455-beat-the-first-episode-of-doom-1/ http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-general/62550-finally-beat-epsode-2-of-doom/ I leave this intro post reminding you guys of two things: For those who would ask the question "Are you for real?" I don't know what to say other than that yes, this post is 100% genuine. I've liked this game for a while, but I go back and forth between this and different games. Oh, and yes, other then the recent BFG Edition, as far as I know I have access to every single Doom game.
  3. I'll get straight to it First of all, I'm using GZDoom, and I have every Doom game and then some, minus the recent BFG edition. Anyways, for some reason I can't seem to get IWADs to show up in the list. For example, I downloaded this level: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=502 and put everything in the IWAD Folder, but it's not selectable from the list when I try to start gzdoom. Any ideas people? Thank you for your time.

You know what? when you say command, you don't actually mean console command, like I thought you did, right? Please, tell me what you mean by command, and where exactly I put thest commands.

gzdoom is an unknown command, as is the chear code. It's very odd.

Beat Doom, looking for suggestions for maps

Holy cow this is awesome. Thanks pal!

Whohoo! Finally beat the original Doom!(SPOILERS!)

Thanks! And yeah, well, the spider may have been harder if I wasn't so prepared for him. the second CyberDemon was the hardest fight in the game, as I had no idea that he was going to show up.

Finally beat epsode 2 of Doom!

Yesterday I stayed up kinda late since I was in level 7 of episode 2, and I really wanted finish it. It took me a couple hours to figure out where the hell a certain key was that opened the bloody way, but I eventually figured it out. I was using rockets sparingly the whole episode since I assumed that the last two or so episodes would have a lot of those...um, I'm not sure what the enemies that sorta look like mutated anthropomorphic pigs that shoot green fireballs, and to my surprise, I ran into maybe around 5 of them. Then episode 8 come up, and then I really regretted saving up so many rockets, since not only does it start you out with a blue armor, but it also gives you more rockets than you're ever need. The boss himself was quite challenging at first, as I imagine that he killed me around 10 times before I realized that I could hide behind pillars, shoot dodge for about 2 seconds, then repeat. what seemed to make him hard was that it seemed like he had his own version of a rocket launcher, and it killed me within about 2 hits. i eventually hit him with enough rockets though, which I assume where about 25 or so. BTW, the boss is known as the Cyberdemon, right? There a background storyline behind him by any chance? I assume that he comes back in Doom 2, right? Anyways, what I got from the text that shows up after you beat the boss is that you were on one of Mars moons, and this time you survived, and you noticed something. Someone actually escaped from Hell (which I assume is Mars) and now you're gonna go to Mars itself to find out what the heck is going on there, and complete the final 8 or 9 levels of the original Doom! Oh, and in case anyone wants my thoughts on the end of Episode 1, go here. Be warned that is contains some minor spoilers. http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-general/59455-beat-the-first-episode-of-doom-1/ Oh, and for those who would ask the question "Are you for real?" I don't know what to say other than that yes, this post is 100% genuine. I've liked this game for a while, but I go back and forth between this and different games. Oh, and yes, other then the recent BFG Edition, as far as I know I have access to every single Doom game.
  10. There's supposed to be a code that adds in as many enemies as on ultra violence on whatever difficulty you're on, making the game still harder, but not as hard as ultra violence Anyone know what said code is? Thanks.
  11. So yeah, I beat who I assume was the cyberdemon, and have finished Episode 2. Going into what is the final episode of the original version of Doom. Just thought that I'd ask a few questions here: 1. Are there any particular levels in this episode that people who have never gotten through them before will consider especially challenging? 2. On a side note, I know that there's a code you can use in zdoom that will make it so the levels will have the same amount of enemies as in Ultra Violence, but won't make the enemies as hard at the same time. It'll still make the game harder as I'll still play on Hurt me plenty difficulty, just not as hard. Can anyone tell me what that code is? And yeah, unfortunately I forgot to use it in Episode 2. 3. I usually find at least a few secret areas in each area, but I don't look for all of them. Are there any types of ammo that I should try to conserve? I thought that it would be a smart move to conserve rocket launcher ammo in Episode 2 for example, but it turned out to be pointless as you're given more than enough in the boss level. That covers what I wanted to ask. Thank you for your time.

Looking for a code that adds more enemies in all modes

I'd love to, but first this site has to stop logging me out every time I try to edit a message. BTW, this means that I beat E1 (and about half of E2) on the next to hardest setting. That makes me feel pretty badass actually.

Looking for a code that adds more enemies in all modes

Again sorry the now triple post, but this board really does not like me. Anyways, are you 100% positive that Ultra Violence doesn't give enemies more health than when on HEY, NOT TOO ROUGH? Because I seem to notice a huge difference.

Re-read what you said. I apologize for misunderstanding. Thank you. BTW, anyone know why the site would log me out whenever I try to delete a post I've made? I can't even close this topic.

Looking for a code that adds more enemies in all modes

I've actually used this code before, on all of Episode 1 actually, so I'm quite aware of its existence. So yeah, this exists, I just can't remember the code. I do have the skill to play on max violence, so I know that I didn't play through all of episodes one on max violence, just with its enemy placement.

Beat the first Episode of Doom 1

Alright, I just beat the first boss/es. I died about 3 times before realizing that there were a bunch of spectres around me. I died about 5 times before realizing that the rockets that I had been saving for the boss/es are able to damage me as well. I probably died about 10 times before I came up with the strategy to kill the boss on the left quickly with 35 or so rockets and taking his little "house" hostage, Chaingunning all the spectres, and using another 35 or so rockets to take out the remaining boss himself. I was left with about...I wanna say 60% health left, and...I think 20% armor, give or take. After this, I was kinda confused about what to do next, so I made an extra save, and after a couple minutes I found a switch in the right "house," and a minute later, I figured out what the heck it did. I checked the map, and noticed that while I found the one secret in the level, there were about 15 or so enemies left(It's a feature of ZDoom.) Considering that I was nearly dead, and I only had about 18 or so rockets left, I was kinda scared that I'd have to restart the whole level over, kill the bosses again, and end up fighting 2 more of the same demon.. Thankfully that didn't happen, as I made my way to what I assume was a portal to... *The rest of the post will contain early game spoilers. You have been warned!* .... .... .... ...hell itself. Several enemies spawned, and I pretty much was dead in 2 seconds. I got a message basically saying that if you thought you were supposed to get some cool ending for beating the game, you're wrong, because you still have 2 more sets of levels to go through(technically 3 since I'm playing The Ultimate Doom.) if I want to actually complete the game. This is my guess for what happened. I beat the 2 big demons on the moon(I thought I was on Mars too. Odd.) in hopes of stopping all the legions of hell from arriving on Earth, then I ran into where the demons came from, hell itself. I was killed by the several legions that came out of it, and now I'm about to arrive on the entrance to hell itself! I'm gonna stop for the night, but damn did that ending feel good! Oh, and btw, I keep meaning to ask. Do you get anything for finding every secret on all of the levels in an episode?

Beat the first Episode of Doom 1

From what I understand, I have every Doom game that is on Steam.
  19. Hey everyone, how's it going? For those that don't want to read this whole post, here are the questions in advance: Is there something big in the first hidden level? If there really was something big in the Military Base that I missed, would it be worth it to revisit the level to get the item? Plus: while I'm here, let me ask another question. From what I understand, you lose most of your weapons and your armor and health reset after the first campaign. Is this a glitch, because if it isn't intentional, I'd like to know if there's a way around this. Also: I've been playing this on the easiest mode. I'm just curious, besides the game being easier, am I missing out on anything by doing so? I'm considering changing the difficulty if I can do via the console. Finally: Feel free to suggest another Doom source port that gives you even more options. Also, feel free to suggest any mods to use, and user created levels to try out when I beat the game. Thanks. .... .... ... As for the more social details: I've had every Doom game available on Steam for quite a while now, and I've been playing the original Doom off and on for a year now, never getting far at all, usually getting sidetracked, or just plain frustrated with different issues with the game. Thankfully, I was introduced to ZDOOM, and I'm just plain loving the game now! I feel like I'm able to do so much more that it's insane! Anyways, I'm still in the first campaign of the original Doom. Just beat the Military Base, which a friend told me is the first campaigns sorta hidden level. I I had a lot of fun with it and all. Plus, according to ZDoom, I even found all of the secret rooms in the level, and killed every enemy as well! But the thing is, since it's a secret level, I expected to get a very powerful weapon that I wouldn't be able to acquire from any other level until well...at least until near the end of the first campaign. Instead I found a bunch of the same stuff I got from secret rooms in other levels. I already had a Shotgun, Machine Gun, Chainsaw, and Rocket Launcher prior to the level. While one one hand I do realize that it would make sense for the Plasma Rifle and BFG to not show up until much later, I expected to see something nice in the level. I guess the partially invisible imps or whatever they're called showing up for the first time(at least I think it's the first time they've shown up.) was kind of cool, but other than that, I didn't notice anything different about the level from the others so far. So anyways, the question once again is the one in the the topic title. Did I miss something big in the hidden level? If there really was something big that I missed, would it be worth it to revisit the level to get it? Oh, and while I'm here, let me ask another question. I'm considering changing the difficulty if I can do so via the console. I don't consider it cheating if I'm specifically making it harder for me. Feel free to suggest a difficulty mode you think someone who doesn't play many pure skill based shooters would enjoy. Finally: Feel free to suggest another Doom source port that gives you even more options. Also, feel free to suggest any mods to use, and user created levels to try out when I beat the game. Thank you for your time.

Did I miss something big in the Military Base?

btw, one question I asked remains unanswered. "Anyway welcome to the Doom community! We tend to over analyze things here and we don't seem to have much tolerance for wayward opinions (I'm one to talk) but I'm sure you'll enjoy your involvement here anyway." What do you mean by wayward thinking?

Did I miss something big in the Military Base?

Yeah, Hurt me Plenty is what i'm aiming for. Again, to change the difficulty to hurt me plenty, I just need to type the following, right? -skill 3 Really? Nice! All I knew about 2 up until now was that the enemies are taller. So Final Doom is 2 parts, as opposed to Ultimate Doom which is 4? Alright, thanks.

Did I miss something big in the Military Base?

It was fun, that's for sure. Not into pvp, sorry. I see. Well thanks. Yeah...I should type the following for Hurt Me Plenty, right? skill 3 Playback demo as in recording your playthrough of a level, right? Nothing wrong with overanalyzing. Not sure what you mean by wayard thinking though.
