    3D Bridges and level detailer requeseted...

    Ugh, dude, you really should learn how to make levels from start to end. I mean, what's the point of mapping otherwise? Besides, it's always hard to fix other people's work, especially when such vague requirement as "some freedom of variation is allowed" is present.
  4. So, i need to change the sky on the map Troll Fortress, but no matter what i write in the MAPINFO, it always stays the same. I've checked the map in the doom builder and everything seems fine. Neither the other standard skies (sky1, sky3..) nor a custom sky work, it's always the sky2. Eh, any ideas what might cause this? Yes, i've sent PM to Fiend some time ago, but he's not around i guess. --->FIEND IF YOU ARE READING THIS CHECK YO PRIVATE MESSAGES BRO!!!<--- Here's map's entry from the MAPINFO: map map06 "Troll Fortress by Fiend" { next = "map07" sky1 = "RSKY2", 0.0 music = "SOR2L6" } Edit: forgot to add that all other maps work fine.
  5. Yep, i just replaced the sky3 texture with RSKY2 and assigned it to all other RSKY2 maps in the MAPINFO. Other half uses sky1 anyway. Thanks.

    HYMN: Final Release, finally!

    Fixed. Also enlarged the egg sprite to stand out more, expanded its description and changed contrast on some other sprites, for better looks.

  8. Thanks man, i've found those linedefs and learned what they do. Does anyone know if it's possible to disable/override them without editing the map? 'Cause i wanted to avoid editing maps for this little compilation i've put together. But it's okay i guess, changing the sky even via map editing is acceptable, so i will not cry (hard) if there is no other way.

    HYMN: Final Release, finally!

    Hey everyone, here's some feedback: MAP02: the map is VERY noticeably MUCH darker than the first one. It hurt my eyes and made me wanna increase the brightness level. In some places, like the battle with two ironliches after a jump from waterfall, you can't see stuff at all, and its almost impossible to avoid those gray hurricanes that liches throw. It's not obvious what the last switch does (the one that opens the yellow key tower), and i've spent some time searching for the new opened door. Eventually i've concluded that the switch glitched and used noclip and fly to find the location of the yellow key, which was in the tower that i thought was purely cosmetic. I'd say that the side of the tower that is facing the courtyard should have been with a window, not with a cosmetic "RIP" tablet. Not counting the darkness, I liked everything about this map: pretty, some great encounters, plenty of ammo. MAP03: This map lacks details, and there is a lot of misaligned textures and doorframes without support textures. The maze looks horrible, same for the room with walls that form weird symbol on the floor and blinking light (light is out of sync on the elevator). The entrance to the maze's secret is marked on the automap. I think there's no health anywhere in the maze. Considering that people often try to run to the maze's exit to not spend much time there, the absence of health might lead to a lot of reloads. Especially considering that in the end of that maze there was a huge ambush. Good thing i had 3 flasks. I also had a weird moment when i entered a room, "floor turned to lava" and i was teleported somewhere else where i "found a secret". Weird. MAP04: What was the point of those flying monks in the cage? It's so easy to kill them, and they can't do shit about it. In fact, fights on this map are quite dull. The gargoyles in the tunnels at the beginning, badly placed (easily killed) monsters-turrets, way to many encounters where monsters appear from both front and back. And what was the point of those one-way double doors to the blue key room? That was really annoying, considering all the lava running. Teleport in the room behind the green door sends the player right next to a bunch of high-tier melle enemies. I think they should've been idle. And why the ammo for the staff is everywhere? This map took me almost 40 minutes, and all i can remember is walking and pressing switches. Man. Map05: So, something like a a Heretic slaughter map? Very crude visuals, too many health items and even tomes of power, no-brain encounters. Giant row of health vials looks ridiculous. Well, i don't have time for the rest of the alpha, so this is where i stop for now. I'd say that it's quite a successful project, and it will certainly bring more people to the Heretic's yard. It made me interested in Heretic, so that's plus 1 already. Finally, while playing the game i've noticed that i don't remember what all those inventory items do, so i've made a new HELP1 screen, which you can use if you wish (thumbnail): It's an uncompressed unconverted png file. I have the source, so if you need to fix something just tell me.

  11. Just stopping by to say that Coffee Break is an awesome megawad, and i'm waiting for the second episode. Wink-wink, nudge-nudge, Matt. Maybe join later for Double Impact.
  12. Well, i guess DoomWorld will go all the way up through every possible monster type number till standard. 1monster, Double Trouble, 3monster, FOURSOME, 5monster etc... Eh. There goes a chunk of my enthusiasm, but i will not rush with the decisions. Is it possible to obtain the texture pack without downloading the whole CC4?
  13. Come on cannonball, Infiltration and A cold day in Hell are great action-packed maps. Especially the last one, it was the true last map of that megawad for me.

    Anybody else grabbing 'Heart of the Swarm' tomorrow?

    I don't get people who will buy all three parts at launch just for the campaigns. It's a generic space opera, and they went from "I'll kill you Kerrigan" to "I love you Kerrigan". I had such period when i decided to seriously main Humans in WC3, to play competitively. After some time however, it passed, and i've began to see clearly during battles, and stay calm the whole time. Awesome feel brah, very gosu.

    Doom 2: BFG Edition (A plea to ID)

    Oh wow, he really just used his post count to back up his point. Put this next to that deathmatch megawad that was suppose to represent gays in Doom community and health regen.
  18. Oh man, SWAT 3 and 4 showed me the full power of randomization.
  19. From the top of my head. 1. No health regen. Insta no buy, no torrent for me. 2. Varied enemies, but no dodging. Looks like enemies are afraid of the player. 3. Maps that look good and provide interesting encounters and secrets. Different ways of activating and finding secrets. 4. No health regen. 5. No slow running speed. 6. Customizable interface and controls. 7. No escort missions. 8. Map editor. 9. Functional and imaginative arsenal. No low-tier lame looking and sounding guns that can pwn everything in the game, making every other game useless, like so many machine guns (CnC Renegade for example) and laser rifles (Jedi Knight series). Bundles of dynamite instead of nades, magma guns instead of flamethrowers. 10. Minimum cut-scenes and text (words). 11. No health regen. 12. No ragdolls, only death animations and gibs. Really, can there be a better way? 13. No small fast-moving enemies. 14. Health regen. No.

    What phone are you using?

    Motorola KRZR K1, my first phone that i bought 6 or 7 years ago. Everyone was obsessed with Nokia back then, in my country at least, but Nokias looked like gray bricks. So i decided to buy meself a pretty looking phone that was rare in my country. It was a good choice, tho Motorolas were a bit slow back then. Now i can't buy a new phone, because i don't like these black bricks that all companies produce now. My dream is an Android flipper.

    Is id Software slowly dying off?

    "Advancing the genre" is a pointless, useless, meaningless phrase that originated from game journalism, alongside with "clones", "kings of genres", rating systems and other crap. There is no single entity called "genre", there are separate games. If every game would be like Half-Life there would be no other games, only HL. If one game has NPCs does this makes it better than other games in the genre? There are no "better", more "advance" or "modern" games, there are only games. With their gameplay. That you can play. Anytime.

    Probably because "having flaws" doesn't equals to "it's shit". Well, maybe here and /idgames. Doom-clone? What is this, 1994? Cheap? What is this, a gaming magazine? Oh now that's just not nice. Again, reads like "quality gaming journalism". One word: Strife. Two words: System Shock. 2/10 post, would not read again.
