Wow. I won't be surprised to see Doom have the absolute most cutting edge graphics now.

According to Pete Hines, the reason they they showed the reveal was to quell all the doubts and negative speculation about Doom and Id. Here's the rest of the story: http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/07/18/doom-was-revealed-to-counter-fears-of-trouble-at-id-software-public-reveal-unlikely-this-year/ Oh, and public reveal is unlikely this year. Sucks to be us indeed.

I don't mind having lots of demons with mechanical parts, but does EVERY demon need to have mechanical parts? The original imp didn't have mechanical parts. The archvile was more like a demonic shaman and didn't have any mechanical parts either. Oh well. You can't have everything you want in this world.

Yeah, the no reload thing is really the only thing that bugs me. Unless they have an explanation for it in the game like maybe your suit somehow puts bullets into you guns, then it will be ok, but if there is no explanation for it then it will seem a little weird that there is no reloading.

Yeah, Sgt. Mark might as well be the lead designer on this thing since it pretty much sounds like Brutal Doom with modern graphics. I am one of the few on here that actually doesn't mind that it sounds like Brutal Doom.
-
Damn this sounds fast paced: "There's a lot of strafing, a lot of running for your life."
-
Sounds like gameplay to me. Doomguy just got the chainsaw and is cutting through demons. Sounds like the chainsaw is downright deadly.
-
Demo ended with Doomguy getting his arm ripped off by a demon and then getting beaten to death with it. However, they are apparently showing another demo right now.
-
Sounds like there are lots of gibs. Someone just tweeted: "Shotgun blast just blew a demon in two, after blowing off its head. This shit is graphic for sure."
-
Wow, this sounds a lot like Brutal Doom. Someone just tweeted: "Doom guy stepping on demons SKULLS after knocking them down from a shotgun blast." And Doom guy supposedly just ripped off an arm for biometric scanning. RIP N' TEAR!
-
Supposedly it looks a lot like Doom 3 with blood all over the place and particle effects as well.
-
Ok, so far from watching people at the event tweet stuff out, it sounds like the game will be very fast paced, it will be a reboot, and the demons were experimented upon by the UAC. No health regen it sounds like. Someone mentioned fast movement too. Also mentioned futuristic guns, conventional guns, and really big guns. Also there will be multiplayer.
-
Well it looks like they just turned off the live stream. They must be showing it right now.
-
Dude, I'm all for ridiculous gore. Not as cartoonish and excessive as Brutal Doom, but I definitely want my guns to do some damage!
-
This man speaks wisdom.
-
Yeah, I know. I want satisfying physics too. I want my guns to feel powerful. I was just pointing out that a shotgun blast making a person flying backwards is not necessarily "good" or "realistic" physics.
-
Whatever it is, it's crap.
-
Yeah, but that's not good physics though. I think what you want is exaggerated physics. Good physics would be having the monster or zombie simply falling over and dying after a shotgun blast. A real life shotgun blast does not make a person fly backwards.

I think steroids should be legal here in the US and allowed to be used in sports.

The only thing I didn't really like about TNO is that it tried too hard to be dramatic. In a game where your character is pretty much a muscled up 80s action hero who can effortlessly slaughter hundreds of nazis without even blinking an eye and be shot, stabbed, punched in the face by a super soldat, blown up by a grenade and still somehow survive it all, the dramatic tone sometimes felt out of place. And BJ's whispers got kind of annoying after a while. It makes me chuckle when BJ is like "I have seen so many horrible things" while he maniacally stabs a space nazi to death. It just doesn't feel right. I would much rather have preferred to have BJ shouting curse words and taunts at the nazis during combat. That would have fit the overall campiness of the game and also would fit BJ's character better. Anyway, back on topic. Doom should have a serious story, just not a dramatic one that clashes with the actions of our hero and with the tone of the game.

Hmm. That could be either a good or bad thing. Hopefully the new Doom will have the same dark atmosphere of Doom 3, however, they better not repeat the same mistakes they made with Doom 3.
-
Actually I don't. Considering the fact that the new team that is making the new Doom consists of almost none of the old talent that made Doom 3 and that Pete Hines himself has said that the new Doom has to prove itself and can't sell on its name alone, I think that there is a chance that the new Doom can be something new and different but at the same time retain its identity. We don't know at this point. Even with all the crap that has happened at id in the past 5 years or so, there is still a chance that this Doom could be awesome. And didn't the last few HL2 episodes blow chunks? What makes you think that HL3 would be anything new or refreshing?
-
Would be great to have rematch.
-
Totally agree with this. I actually hope that the new Doom has a really dark atmosphere like Doom 3 but pulls it off even better.

Nothing. A modern game without the option of iron sights and head shots would be stupid. However, I wouldn't want shooting down the sights to be the only way to shoot accurately in the new Doom. Shooting from the hip should definitely be an option. In fact, it should be rare to have to use iron sights to take down an enemy. Perhaps if an enemy is over 50 or 100 yards away, then you should have to use iron sights. Anything less than that, shooting from the hip should allow you to kill your enemies just fine.
