    New blog

The lost caco feature was inspired by the Doomworld referenced thread. I guess I'll blog based mostly on what I think (other than voluntary voices/suggestions); need some comment flow (either blog or this thread) to keep things interesting/enjoyable though. :)

I have no plans with private messages, in any case. But, I don't see how you can accuse any of the quoted terms to be "my past". They are things that presumably get (and certainly should receive) consideration for any awards listings. Especially popular demand - that is exactly what the nomination threads are for! Making what I want to be envisioned as a semi-official list of "alternate cacowards", yet having it be 100% based on my opinion and nobody else's, would seem just as inappropriate as not weighing my opinions at all. It's about balance, not relying all on one person or side! Reviews will generally reflect my opinion, since that's pretty much the definition of review, but the picks themselves deserve a good balance, just as Hobbs or Scuba Steve would never let their personal opinions play full dominance in a cacos list

First of all I'd like to ask politely please don't make fun or joke based on past behavior. I'm on edge with Vile Flesh. There are professionalism issues abound like tons of misalignments, etc. It's seemed to have lost reputation some as well, and I have still yet to play a majority of it. Nonetheless this is just what input is open for! :) There are definitely stuff I may add based on popular demand. I need a thought of what to remove in its place as well though. Comments on the blog are also welcome and can discuss the same thing (watching both thread and blog - so either or both are fine).

I will do review snippets like the normal Facie. They may be a few at a time and three or so review posts for a year; it depends. First however it's entirely open to suggestion if you (or anyone) feel(s) something really mentionable from the year is still being missed. One of my thoughts is to give other authors a chance as well when selecting wads,, so I am not likely to include something primarily from an author or group that already got a top ten that year unless it's just something totally exquisite.

    New blog

So I decided to open a Doom-related domain on Blogger. With a reference to my MegaDoomer Doomworld name. http://mdooming.blogspot.com Feel free to view, comment, or even request to tribute if you'd like! :) First post and feature up already.

most levels in a single wad?

Heretic is 9x5 and then three levels that you can only see with engage61, 62, and 63. However of these three I believe 62 is the only full single player map. So heretic.wad has 46 playable solo levels. I'm guessing however that the thread starter is looking for custom PWADs only.

most levels in a single wad?

Applying some restrictions like must be single player, cannot be total joke, and has to be originql work (no conversions of other games, etc.) I believe these are the top three: 1) Bella II at 40 levels (seems half serious half joke though) Some levels are completely worth it and others aren't very good at all if they are even serious. Chris Hansen's four contributions here are easily the best and they are 100% serious levels as well. 2) 2002AD10 (Beta) with 38 levels 3) 2002ADO (Original version) with 37 levels There are at least a few full UD megawads with 36, so I don't see need to go any further. EDIT: Forgot Chibi Rebellion, from a gross count that is first place for sure and it's a WIP still but there is a playable release out there.

Best WADs to have never won a Cacoward

Possibly id 6714, it is probably one of the most overlooked megawads that is actually decent, possibly because somehow it didn't go into the megawads folder. Couple.recent comments have reminded me of it.
  9. Few structural feedback notes/suggestions: The presence of original UDoom skies benefits overall, but I feel E2M9 loses its atmosphere some without the Heretic sky and E4M9 (former E3M5) is not as scary/sinister without the black starry sky. Just these two cases, and they're both secret levels. I think the original E4M1 is just enough to warrant preserving, maybe make it E5M3 with the exit to it on the new E4M1 and probably not too hard to find which would match the reward (i.e. a short DM made SP level). The ZDoom only signs aren't going to stop the curious, and those who jump for it in another port might easily end up being able to skip a few normal levels...

That Vengeance is pretty overlooked. It's on the easy, side, but quite good. In fact I'd say Fleschute is overlooked in general, since he made another decent UDoom megawad Invasion, a Doom II sequel Invasion II that shamefully was left somewhat incomplete, and I think he also did a real nice single level at the end.of his career (I can't remember its name but think Vengeance was in the name).

Why do they always find out who I am even if my posting shows no similarity? Sorry for OT, but some magic must be at work here. Anyways the problem this time is I'm not even able to read PMSs anymore as MegaDoomer. Being banned from the public forum is one thing, and not one I can't be honest with and handle. But I was committed to Sigvatr's PM only group back in Dec 2011 and then around March, even that allowance was revoked with no notification whatsoever. There in is where the problem I have here lies! Probably should get back on topic otrw, though.

Best WADs to have never won a Cacoward

I had thought of several others getting read for sleep, but fullmetalavaran got some of them (I'm really surprised he/she caught Hell on Mars because I was going to bring it up and it received near zero attention or even recognition)! At this time Riot Control, Reanimated, Sector 666, post_mep, Italian Doom (Episode 1 plus Lost Levels), the Monolith maps by Richard Wiles, and Real World (1 and 2) are the remaining ones I brainstormed that are yet uncovered (note my attention is focused on at least mini-episodes and/or series, not single levels, for now). That's going to be it from me for this evening, I think. But I do agree here: excellent thread!

Some Doom I episodes/series (the number is the /idgames id) Silouhettes of Phobos 6521 High Low series 14523 14818 15582 15975 dinner.wad 4878 Beyond Horrible! 15208 Inferno (Chris Lutz) 9188 Nuke Mine 751 Extremal Doom 14156 F_Episode2 16268 Deimos Deja Vu 16270 Redemption 12228 DOOM MERCENARIES 12238 Doom II stuff: Realm of Shades 9040 Demonized 9788 Southern Cross (Gold) 12578 project slipgate 11600 Dissolution 11633 Anything kaiser_xx (too many to list all) odyssey2 5387 Dark Covenant 6254 Trust 11101 Phobos - Relive the nightmare 4690 Fracture 9973 Flay the Obscene 11721 Selfish Ep 15838 UAC 10485 (is the one I am referring to) 32 Inch Nails 15454 yomi.was 15082 BloodRust 13920 Nilla Doom 12669 ...and quite possibly a lot more that didn't occur on my head Of course these aren't all precisely at the same level so by definition they are not all "best", but I probably got a good chunk of the cream of the crop stuff and regardless, they are all worth a look.

Best WADs to have never won a Cacoward

Just looking in the megawads folders quite a bunch I recall being good that aren't already mentioned: Ultimate Doom/Doom I: Needs More Detail Invasion Vengeance Doom II: Number One Kill The Next Generation Fragport Mini Level Megawad (not unlike Scythe or KSSHT) The Rebirth Scientist (2) Great Bicycle Mystery 2 DSV4 (5 is also very good, just not as many levels) Enjay ZDoom (2001) Scimitar Twilight Zone II (the first TZ, not really that good) Also the last one reminds me of Death Tormention I-III, three separate E4 replacements. As well as Simply Phobos (E1 with bonus E2M9).
  15. Descent I/II Doom I/II (of course) plus Heretic Duke Nukem 3D Wolfenstein 3D Quake Serious Sam FE/SE (non-HD) Listed generally in order from what I've spent most to least time on lately. Descent can addict me intensely at times.
