  1. Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I know about the ammo, but I want to be a little generous in the first episode. However I've already removed a bunch and if I remove more they will be pretty hard to do from pistol start. But maybe that's not important?
  2. I now about secret levels, just wanted to know about other methods to change the level order. Also there is no other reason it should not work. I'm using DB2 with default settings, all I did to the wad was adding some textures using Slade. I'm I using the wrong nodebuilder or something?
  3. Yeah sorry, I don't really get this... If I rename the maps, won't the play in the wrong order then? That's not an option. And move to the E2 slots? This will be a 4ep wad. What I want now is to change the secret level (it's in e1m4 in this wad) and the end text. Is there something to read out there that explains what you said me to do?
  4. I don't know what you mean with "reassigning maps in the normal slots or using E2 or E3 or E4 slots instead of E1". I'm pretty new to source ports stuff. The reason I did this is just because I needed an easy way to change the secret level for the source I'm using. It's just for testing. When this is released I intend to make it as compatible as possible. Btw, does it really change that much what people choose to play depending on the source port? Thought most of them were cross compatible anyway.
  5. ...in Doom 1, is this possible? Since there's no command for it I've tried to change the brightness to the same as neighbour sectors, but no luck. Is there a way?

    Making a sector stop blinking...

That's what I thought, cause I tried that too. Too bad. :(

    Making a sector stop blinking...

Yeah, that didn't seem to work sadly.
  8. In Doom1, the w1 lift lower/raise action can be triggered by enemies and since I use it for a one time trap it's led to some problems. I want to have some monsters around to make the area less suspicious but unless I use a block monster line it's a high chance the trap will be triggered and it will fail. But using the block monster line it will most likely make the trap really bad if the player just wants to run away. So I'm looking for suggestions for lowering and raising the floor once but not being triggered by enemies and working with vanilla Doom. :/
  9. I didn't know that. Fast lifts works too for me. Thanks. :)

    Changing Secret Level Behavior

You should read this thread. http://www.doomworld.com/vb/doom-editing/70886-changing-level-names-intermission-text/

    IDTex textures

    That's great. Thanks.

    IDTex textures

I thought to use the textures from IDTex.wad for my levels but unfortunately it didn't come with finished textures, and I have no idea how to puzzle the patches together correctly. I tried to search for wads with finished textures but I haven't found any so now I'm wondering if anyone out there has one or know where I can find one?

    IDTex textures

You must have misunderstood me. I know how to create textures, I just want know how to create the correct IDTex textures since many of them are made from several patches. That's the help I'm looking for.
  14. Ok, that's all I need to know I think. Thanks guys.
  15. There are a few things I want know how to do in my UDoom wad and that I don't think is possible while keeping it "vanilla". So at least I hope it's possible to change these things and not have it limited to a specific sourceport. 1. How do I change the level after the secret level? I've read something about Dehacked but I don't really get it. 2. Can I remove all the animations from the intermission screen and change it to a static background? I want to remove the par time too. And where in the wad do I change what name a level has on the intermission screen? 3. Is it possible to change the exit condition on map 8 in all episodes? I don't want the levels to end when I kill the cyberdemon or the spider. Also, it possible to change what trigger the 666 tag and what that sector does after?
  16. This is for UDoom btw. So I was wondering, when you add a lighting effect to a sector it appears to be changing from a brighter light, darkening to the level of a sector next to it. Is there a way to make the light change from being darker to increase in brightness instead? Also, when you place 2 sectors with lighting effects next to each other one of them seem to change between current level and 0. How do I avoid that? I also have a teleporter trap that I want to funnel a lot of monsters in a specific order. Easiest way to do this just to place the monsters in a narrow path. But the more monsters that teleport out, the more room there is for the rest just to wander back and forth, and I want a constant flow. Any tips of how to do this? Third question. How wide is the Doomguy in game? In the editor he's 32 and when I checked the wiki it said the radius was 16. But in the game he can't pass through 32 wide gaps. I have a few places in my maps that are 32 wide holes next to walls and if the player falls down there they are stuck and I don't want that. So right now you can't fall down which is good, but is it possible to glitch yourself into them or something?

    Lights, teleports and player size

About the teleporter trap, yes I want to use it for alooooot of enemies telporting in a specific order so I really don't want to use a narrow path for reasons mentioned above. Thanks anyway. Anyone got some input on my lighting issue?
  18. Thanks, this is what I wanted to know. A few things: I checked the link there, and do I have to enter all the different syntaxes for each engine or is there there one that works on all ports, or did I just misunderstand? I guess I can use this too for the ending text? Also, doing this will that decrease the chance that people that don't use a port that support this will not play it, or maybe Doom player aren't that picky about ports? :p Yes you can, I just played Reverie and it's gone in it. Hmm, can I trigger the 666 tag with this or does that only work on e1 and e4?

Graphical Bug in some obscure project of mine

I've heard a few people say they prefer DB1 for some reason. Since I've never used it, what does it do different? I think DB2 is awesome and easy to use, but last time I made Doom levels I used DCK (shiver), so I guess anything will feel awesome. :p
  20. Nice work Pottus. :) Yes I realize that that are too many factors for a tool to get an exact measurement. But the reason I asked for this tool is to get some sort of overview of the map while I'm making it and to get a sense of the overall balance. And since it's my maps I will know where there are situations where the ammo consumption will change from the norm. Then I can just do the calculation in my head, just having the raw numbers on the screen is nice. I was also hoping to get some sort of discussion on how much ammo you need for a level without making it frustrating but still tough.
  21. So I've been looking for a way to see how much ammo vs how many monsters you have on a map. When you get to 50+ monsters on a map it becomes quite hard for me to get a good overview and finding a good balance (without having to test the map over and over). So I did a search and found wadspy. Since it shows both the number of monsters and total health I thought it was perfect, except it doesn't work on w7... So anyone got a suggestion what I can do to make that process easier?
  22. Wow, that's great dude, thanks. :) Got it working too. Now to interpret the numbers... :p Well the error was a popup telling me the exe is not compatible with my windows and needs a x86 version. Edit: So I've been fiddling around with it and it's really an amazing tool. It would be really awesome to see this as a plugin for DB2. ;) Anyway, I did a check on my map as a test and it returned a health/damage ratio of 0,3 on skill 4. So what do you guys think is a good balance? I know that monster positioning matters, but what do you think an overall ratio should be?
  23. Thanks for the replies. Yes, like I said, I've tried searching both here and Google but since I'm pretty new I'm not sure what exactly to search for and this was the only thing I could find. I've tried it in dosbox but it just crashed and I'm not even sure it's a dos application to start with since I think it was made 2003. But I'm not sure. Also tried that xwadtools, but it gave the same error as wadspy. :(
