  1. So I figure a little project for me wouldn't be so bad, and since I kinda miss dooming and mapping and racing games, here's what I've put together on NewEgg:

    Sexy mid-range build

If you could kindly look over the details of my items and see if you notice any compatibility issues please let me know! Specifically, I am concerned if the case is too small for the graphics card. I am quite out of the loop, but built a couple computers back in 1999.

I may replace the SSD drive for a 7200rpm 1TB one since it's 3X cheaper than the small SSD.

EDIT: if there is a graphics card that offers better bang for the buck that you can recommend, please do, as I am trying to get the cost of this build down.

      Not an expert either, but...

It should fit, though small form factor builds tend to be a little snug. I can't find a lot of information on that case's dimensions, but I'd be more concered about it accomodating the height of your graphics card than its length. EVGA's 750Ti might be a better option if you want to play it safe. Or look for another case.

SSDs yield a nice improvement in boot times and the general snappiness of your computer, but I'd advise against getting one if you're on a tight budget and your main concern is gaming performance. You could spend the saved $ on more relevant stuff.

Not an expert, and the imperial system confuses me, but it says your tower case supports a 12.5" card while Google says your card is 13 x 9.3 x 2.3 inches.

geo has a hard-on against the Unreal Engine for some mysterious reason. There aren't even that many UE4 games out. I only have a i3-2100 and I run most games fine (my definition of "fine" being constant 60 FPS at 1680x1050, lowering graphic settings as needed). From what little I understand, the processor starts to matter when there's large amounts of AI calculations, physics and such.

No idea what it's worth, but I see this website linked often in gaming configuration topics these days: http://www.logicalincrements.com/

I do yes. There are plenty of lesser games out. They do monthly game jams.

      Thanks for the replies, guys.
My Macbook Pro is having a seriously hard time running NewEgg's website. I just wish I knew what was wrong with my computer :( It runs at MAX power/heat output all the time.

Anyway, not to derail my own thread, I'm just super frustrated at having put up with years of inexplicable performance issues with this laptop.

Anyway, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on this build.
I changed the case to the Rosewill Dual Fans MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case FBM-01 to save a few bucks. And I think I found a more bang for the buck graphics card in the XFX Core Edition R9-270A-CNFC Radeon R9 270 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card
