As of now, nearly all my work towards my music course is finished! With little left still to do, maybe now I can get back to actually writing music again, heh.

I'm pretty sure I heard the BTSX E1M1 music once described as "that stupid sounding mexican song".

(tired ranting) Jeez, I struggle for nearly two hours to get to sleep and what do I end up with? A nightmare within another fucking nightmare, in which I'm terrified by a doom map (custom monster), supposedly wake from that dream to a very convincing copy of my room, hallucinating said monster in here with me and having a mental breakdown in trying not to fall asleep again. Ugh.
It's not helped by the fact I woke up for real a few times throughout, just to add to the confusion.
Too real, not cool. I'm tired. The other maps in that WAD were cool though so that's something I guess :p

Yeah dunno why my brain settled on them, I haven't even played Heretic that much!
Specifically this WAD (it was definitely Doom, not Heretic) was like a small set of maybe four or five levels. When I finished playing I put listmaps in console and saw something like MAP00: R.I.P (this wad was by dobu so this is still quite believable :P), so I warped to that map and the fucker just rushed towards me immediately and started stabbing the doomguy repeatedly, and continued to do so after pressing esc.
That aggressive behaviour and the fact the sprite was edited to contain bits of cyan actually makes it more like something I'd do, now there's an idea, technical limitations aside...
-
Of course it's only back in the real world it becomes apparent that it's not even scary :P
-
Another old music track, my first contribution to the Doom community actually. If you're familiar with the Plutonia MIDI Pack and 50 Shades of Graytall, maybe you'll recognise this ^_^
Side note: This was complete pain in the arse to remake D:

Are you a keyboard/piano player? Are you a masochist? I've got something for you!
Last month I made a MIDI transcription of The Game Never Ends by Stratovarius for my MAYhem 2018 map. The keyboard solo in it took me a solid hour and a half of listening to the song at quarter speed to transcribe it - so here's the sheet music :P

Awesome!

Bit of a boring ramble time:
Kinda hard to believe it was 5 years ago today that I posted my first MIDI here. Eventually last year it became the first upload on my new yt channel, but in those 5 years I've also got a good list of projects that I've written music for, as well as a bunch of standalone stuff and that Planetarium album which is progressing at snail's pace but I do think a 2019 release is doable.
Unfortunately my writing abilities are hampered at the moment due to creative block so I can't follow this up with taking on more projects Right Now, but all the same I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me over those 5 years, anyone who has approached me for music, used my stuff in their WADs, given me compliments, advice etc etc :p It all means a lot, and special thanks to Jimmy - the MIDI packs have been invaluable, especially Plutonia since it was very early on for me and I learnt a lot whilst working on it, and also Devalaous and Megamur for TNT: Revilution, the first non-MIDI pack project I was involved with.
Now speaking of the MIDI packs, I have something else to release today...here's the new recording of the first piece I wrote for 2016's Revolution! MIDI Pack

About a year ago I was the bassist and singer in a 3-piece cover band. I wasn't so good at one of those things :D
-
Eris was too used to Doom; he was kicked out for throwing fire at people like the trollish imp he is. Please dont singe people D:
-
Five Nights at Freddy's 6 came out this week (WAIT, hear me out on this one!) and I was surprised to discover that it had some pretty awesome music, particularly one accompanying the Midnight Motorist minigame.
I liked it so much, I made a MIDI transcription of it :P
-
For ease of access/listening I've started uploading the raw MIDIs of my music to YT to go with the recordings - I figured it made sense to have both versions available.
So here's a playlist with the first 17, this covers the Plutonia and Revolution! MIDI Packs, and TNT: Revilution. The two sort-of-remixes I did for Revilution were also in today's batch, they've been placed in my Revilution playlist.
\o/
edit: May as well take this opportunity to plug the zip which contains all the rest of my MIDI work :P

Hell's Furnace, from TNT: Revilution MAP20. Originally it was meant to open and set the tone for third episode as I had already done with MAP12 and E2, but ended up going nicely with Phobus' map.

Here's a small midi I've put together over the past couple of nights. Ambient-ish, nothing fancy.

Sounds very zen. Great job!
Mind if I reuse it somewhere, someday?
-
Sure, go for it :D

Here's my MIDI for an upcoming map by a certain Midtex Wizard. Do bagpipes and tin whistles fit Doom? Probably not but tough :)
Also that's now officially a mostly-dead channel. End of an era! Just gonna use the rest of this post to quietly plug my new one.. Old stuff is on the move.
-
Here's The Forgotten God, from the Revolution! MIDI Pack - also used recently in 3 Heures d'Agonie 3. It's one of my personal favourites and was mostly a lot of fun to revisit, I've been looking forward to this one for a while :)
Trying to do the guitar solo was not fun though. Actually more kinda the opposite :P
I was also working on the new version of Haze (also from tvrmidi) in parallel with so that'll be released tomorrow. Now back to trying to clear my to-do list for writing MIDIs...

I made some speedmidis (speed = 11 + 5 hours respectively) on Friday:
The Joy of Winter (02:46)
The Sea of Mystery (03:03)
-
Sea of mystery: imo the initial "build-up" silent boring as heck part is way too long, gets badass after that; although I dunno, maybe a long-ass build-up is good when actually in-game?
joy of winter: sounds kinda cheerful and dynamic, yet epic, kind of like the music in those silly boss fights in joke/terrywads (not meant as an insult, heh)
overall neat stuff 77/7 m4ke mo4r

I was working on an album called "The Planetarium" earlier this year, for my final college project due in May, but it won't be done on time sadly. It's on hold indefinitely now until I pick it up again some other time, but for now here are some rough mixes of the first two tracks!

good shit, man. great job on this!
have you thought of perhaps releasing this in parts? i.e. this would be part one, Earth and Mars part 2 etc.. that might help give the project some more clear direction, feeling less overwhelming, only having to work on two tracks at once? just a thought.

If I'd known one day I'd have to actually play this, I probably would have reined it in a bit. That start is sheer brutality :( Made it to about 60% speed this evening.
