  1. I just heard about VSTs in Reason and I came over to say congrats.

@Eris Falling Reason has its own built-in rack of instruments, effects, and utilities. It used to be entirely self-contained, but several years ago they created a plugin format to allow third-party plugins to integrate directly into the rack. The rack follows a different paradigm and workflow from most VST hosts, and is well-suited to modular experimentation and DIY techniques.

Adding VST support on top of that just fills in the gaps in Reason's own plugin market and opens up more options -- I'm currently really satisfied with my existing synth/effects toolkit but am looking at picking up some high-end Kontakt libraries to supplement them with when I can spare the dough.

Kinda sad that they're gonna be floating windows instead of in that rack thing. If I were a reason user that would bug me. But I guess VSTs are just wild and untameable like that.

Yeah, I don't think there's much that can realistically be done about that though, since VSTs can be any size and shape. The utility of having them outweighs the slight inconvenience of using them.
