    DTS-T - A ZDoom megawad [available now]

Oh, I already 5 starred this sucker, some time ago! My review starts out with: "This wad is one of my top favorite wads of all time." :)

    That's perfectly understandable.

    Cacowards 2012 nomination thread

I, politely, agree. So many good author's have worked too hard this year, to not be recognized.

I never intended to say that it was "this wads fault" or the author's responsibility to comply with 3rd party mods. I probably wouldn't if I were an author. I will say that my quote above was taken 'slightly' out of context as I was not just saying "and fix Gluttony in 'Seven...'" I was only saying if "one were inclined" that would be all one would have to do to fix it. I would never think any less of this wad for something as trivial as it not complying to a 3rd party wad, nor would I expect it to do so. I just don't know how many people play Brutal Doom, I guess. Anyway, this wad will always be among the few wads I replay over and over again... with or without Brutal Doom. Thanks again, Deathmatcher for the awesome megawad :)

I have to say this, also: I can't believe how long this game has been released and no one has mentioned the "Lust" part yet. I mean O....M....G! LOL 0.0

    DTS-T - A ZDoom megawad [available now]

Is anyone else having problems with the framerate in "Of Blood & Steel" or is it just because I am using Brutal Doom? (Please don't yell at me for playing Brutal Doom). It happens only after I have been in that level for a while, and gets worse the longer I am in it. It may just be because I was using Brutal Doom, but I'm not sure. While I am on the topic though, you should (if you were so inclined) make a Brutal Doom compatible version. I only say this cause you wouldn't have to do much, just fix the "Of Blood & Steel" part, if indeed that's what it is, and fix Gluttony in "Seven." That part is impossible with Brutal Doom, not just because of the lag, but because of the double damage you take (not to mention the punishment you take from point-blank BFG shots). Anyway, just wishful thinking :-) P.S. As soon as I was done beating it the first time, I loaded it up and beat it straight through again. I friggin' love this wad. Awesome different last boss fight, too!

    Winter's Fury

Thank you! That worked for me, too, which is more than I can say for my framerate while playing this, though, lol EDIT: I guess my computer was just bugging out or something, I've been playing it again, and it's not lagging at all, so far.

    Winter's Fury

Yeah, this map looks great but it errors in the commands while loading up, so I can't play it. I am using GZDoom, is that the wrong port?

    Brutal Doom version 18a

Is there a mutator that stops the damage taken from point-blank deflection shots from weapons like the bullet-based weapons, Plasma Rifle, or the BFG? I hope there's at least one for the BFG. Certain spots in games (the new DTS-T's Gluttony section in the stage "Seven" for instance) really require point-blank bfg shots and this kills me, lol. Anyway, I freaking love this mod! ^Also, is there any option with brutal doom or at least GZDoom that can help speed the game up, at all (e.g., make the game less taxing on my system)? I notice that in maps with lots of creatures, they begin to lag only in Brutal Doom. I know it has to use more system resources (after all, these awesome effects have to come from somewhere), and I'm not complaining, but I was just curious if there was a mod or option that "turned something off" or whatever to help with this sort of thing.

    Castle Doom - Some screens

Thanks! I was hoping you'd say that! I look forward to it.
  11. LOL! I agree. Also, you are an awesome mapper. That is all :D

    DTS-T - A ZDoom megawad [available now]

Not that I was trying to break it or anything, but it seemed pretty Robust to me. Also, maybe I'm just an odd cookie, but IMHO, this is how I wish every wad was. If this is your first wad/megawad/whatever, HOLY JESUS where were you all these years? I really dig your style. My personal taste puts things (everyone has different tastes, guys) like how epic the level-set feels, how anti-climatic the level-set is, the atmosphere, and aesthetics above anything else (unless the gameplay is just obviously terrible or non-existent). But the game-play, of course does matter, and (I think) you did a great job of that here, as well.

    DTS-T - A ZDoom megawad [available now]

Okay, I finally finished, and I must say this is one of my top 3 wads of all time. I am not just trying to be overly-happy but I really think it is that good. I don't mind the first maps, either. Some are short and sweet, others have good atmosphere, but later, OMG LATER, the game just keeps getting better! One of the most important things to me in a doom level-set, is that it is not anti-clamatic. This one certainly is not! A GREAT GREAT GREAT, I can't stress it enough, GREAT, level variety, ideas, and execution. I love knowing that I'm getting a different theme every level I get (okay, almost every level), yet still connects in the storyline to form this epic whole. It kind of reminds me of Fragport in that way. Some tough situations, Gluttony kicked my ass, cause I was on Brutal Doom and get punished for point-blank BFG shots. Plus my computer was lagging with that many chain-gunners, so I had to cheat that part away, sry :( Anyway definite cacowards winner, I trust. VERY few wads are EVER this good, let alone, this consistently good, the whole way through. Had an absolute BLAST! WELL DONE!

    DTS-T - A ZDoom megawad [available now]

I have made it to the final level of the 2nd chapter, and I have to say, I really like it a lot. Not the "Nice, worth a playthrough" like, but the "This has the potential to be one of my top ten wads of all time" like. I have a feeling that it only gets better from here, as I LOVE the idea of the hub level, and the levels that you chose to go within them seem very innovative, indeed! The Vivarium seems like an awesome idea and the exit method to it is perfect for that level. I am very impressed. If this doesn't get a cacoward this year, I will be very surprised (and disappointed). Thanks for this!

    The Eye [now on idgames]

I can't wait! I like maps that let you perhaps choose your path, but as long as the paths are kept somewhat linear, I am happy. I've played some good non-linear maps though too, so you never know :p
  17. You are right about everything except "without the substance". As stated by Optimus, the changes are careful and I feel that it gains all the flash without taking away from the substance. Also, Optimus, to answer your original question: Yes, this has done EXACTLY the same thing to me and I feel EXACTLY the same way that you do. Only thing I miss is some of the wads that were packed with detail and/or monsters that are just too much for my system, when coupled with Brutal Doom (like, 32 inch nails, speed of doom, deus vault 2, and (sadly) Eternal's new "Frozen Time"). Don't care, though, I wouldn't give up Brutal Doom for anything. It's just that damn good, honestly. I LOVE IT!

    Castle Doom - Some screens

I really think this has potential. I like the theme, and the screenshots look very impressive. Two questions: 1. About how many maps do you think you'll include? 2. Are these just gonna be a bunch of varied somewhat random maps with castle theme, or are you going for more of a "this is a HUGE castle with a bunch of levels within it" kind of a thing? Anyway, looks nice, and I can't wait to try it!

    The Eye [now on idgames]

This is a fantastic example of what good level design is. Linear for the most part (if you don't count the path choice at the beginning), but not so much that it is boring or too straight-forward. This is also a fantastic example of good gameplay. I had a blast playing this! I'm sure I speak for everyone, when I say, "Thank you!"

    Unloved II [BETA1 released]

Oh, LOL, I suck. But is it supposed to "End" or are you just not able to go anywhere? Either way, I'm glad he released the Beta. I needed me some Unloved in my bloodstream... Thanks for that, and sry, I thought the beta meant that it was finished but up for testing. Anyway, that makes sense.

    Cacowards 2012 nomination thread

Yeeeeeees! (He sighs in relief that December 2012 is finally here). I nominate, with no apprehension, the very much anticipated Unloved 2. It is, in my very humble opinion, not quite as good as the first one, but still better than 95% of the wads out there and 100% better than other wads made this year (so far, it is still submission season, after all). I feel it necessary to state that the only wad that I've seen so far with the potential to beat this one is Eternal's Frozen Time. However, I play with Brutal Doom, and that is, by no surprise, too taxing on my system. (Yes I know, I am Brutal Doom spoiled, but I am what I am). I would say that Frozen Time is an easy nomination here, also, but as I have no real creedence to make that statement, I will have to stick to nominating just Unloved 2, for now.

    Unloved II [BETA1 released]

Once again, this wad is better than 90% of what's out there. The mood and the feel is, once again, creepy and amazing. I can't stress enough how glad I am that you continued the Unloved series, however, that having been said, I would like to offer my subtle criticism thus far (by thus far, I mean that I am about half way through, or a little over, if the length of the first Unloved, or the fact that I have the first 4 keys is any indication). Yes, I know I should finish the game all the way first, but I can't because I am stuck with the red skull key (shortly after you use it to raise to red skull pillars blocking a basement somewhere). 1. The level diversity doesn't seem quite as good as in the first one. Only the city level really added to the level diversity here (so far). 2. It is a little more 'switch-hunty' than before, which, to my knowledge is something no one is a fan of, but then again, I usually prefer more linear maps anyway, so take that however you want. Again, though, it's not that bad, and I don't think that 'switch-hunty' is (apart from obviously being grammatically flawed) the right expression here. I think I just get lost because a lot of the levels look alike to me. 3. I was under the impression that using music produced by bands is a bad idea, like your use of NIN's Closer in one of your tracks. The music theme from the first game was perfect, and the city level music in this one is the best I've heard so far in this game. The use of NIN here isn't like drilled over and over again or anything, but really takes from the feel of creepiness when/where it is applied. Trust me, I am not complaining and I have enjoyed this so far. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be finishing this one (sad face), because, I just HATE being stuck, and going on a switch hunt in a 6-level hub (I'm sure that number is wrong) just makes me want to do something else instead. If I were giving this a review, which I'm not, cause I want to wait until I beat it (or not do it at all if I never do), I would give it 5/5 for sure. **************UPDATE & Very Slight Spoiler Alert********************* I just remembered something that might help indicate where I am stuck (since I don't know any of the level names), just in case some good doom citizen cares to help out a fellow doomer :). The part I am stuck at is the same area that you hear a revenant cry, then see he's not there, think "oh, like in the first game, just my imagination", then he appears behind you, and you subsequently mess your pants. Nice effect, btw :) (The Revenant, not the pants-pooping) x D

DOOM II Projekt Xero & Greetings!

This is the kind of attitude both the new mappers (which is still a step above myself) and the Doom community need. With mappers understanding that you're not going to waltz into your first ideas and be God's gift to the Doom community, and the community understanding that new mappers need to be encouraged and that if they don't take every project seriously (even if it is well under par, and not saying that this is or anything, but you get my point...) they would never have the motivation to continue mapping, and thus never complete or learn anything. More mappers means more "eventually" legendary mappers in the future. This game, this community, and this site are all a testament to why I believe that I will have the privelage of playing Doom for many many years to come. -Vyle Phinder (played doom wads of all kinds for almost as old as Doom is). Also, not trying to just be nice or anything, but for a first project, this looks quite good.

    Unloved II [BETA1 released]

Please let this be released! Unloved is so good! Also, you said that if the people didn't like the first one, that this one won't pleasure them either. Are there really those among us capable of 'not' liking Unloved? :)
