  1. I was out at the Muskegon Lake channel today looking to get some photos of the storm passing through, but I didn't get anything good from that. What I did get though, was a pretty good photo of a young Cormorant.

I had a chance at a similar shot in April of this year, except with a Caspian Tern, while I was at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore,

What do Caspian Terns do in US? According to their name, they're supposed to live near Caspian Sea..

Though they are named after the Caspian Sea, Caspian Terns are distributed all around the world. Caspian Terns can be found in Michigan for one of two reasons, breeding or migrating. These particular birds are migrants probably looking for a place to breed a bit further north. The Caspian Tern breeding colonies in Michigan are found on small islands at the end of the Garden Peninsula stretching into Wisconsin's Door Peninsula and on islands in the Beaver Island Archipelago.

Yesterday I was driving south to Cincinatti all day, so I decided to make a few hiking stops along the way to places that I had never been to before. One of these stops was Oval Beach in Saugatuck Michigan. This park was a pleasant surprise, there was a lot of public land with a number of official trails which I did not expect. While walking along the beach here I spotted a number of Sanderlings feeding along the shoreline.
