  1. Just gave your "The eye" review a look, and there are some things that you (perhaps) may want to consider:

If the .txt that comes with the wad states in which format the map has been made (in this case it states that it's "boom"), it is at the very least worth considering to use the actual source port (or "engine") that it has been designed for, to make sure all the map's features and setups work the way the author intended them to work. This includes both gameplay and technical aspects of the mapping format in and of itself.

When playing maps of this size in GZDoom there is always a chance of framerates dropping below comfortable values on some systems, which further underlines the point that using the intended source-port isn't the worst of ideas. Framerate issues make your review and the map itself look less good, and they also impact the way you can react to things in negative ways while playing, due to how visual "stuttering" messes with the anticipation of movement in general.

If, for some reason, you are dead set on running absolutely everything in GZDoom, you really should make sure that GZDoom's internal compatibility settings match the format of whichever map you review, to be on the safe-ish side of things. Even though it's not always 100% accurate, that feature is something you definitely should be using, to be as close to what the author had in mind as possible.

Fair enough. The reason I use GZDoom is because it's just the sourceport I got most comfortable using. I've tried using Boom and it's just not the same experience. I will give it the college try off-cam for now, though. I didn't run into anything horrible in that particular review- a little lag in one area is all.

I did open it up in Boom just to play the opening area- the look, the sound, everything is so much more different- not in a good way. Boom is just not my cup of tea. I can agree to changing the compatibility settings on GZDoom, but Boom is the one sourceport I have never used and probably will not use unless there is literally no other way to play the map.
