    Doom 3 BFG... from side of Doom 3 newcomer

    I picked up a disk version of BFG quite cheap on Amazon, even though I have the original and the expansion already. Bought it on a whim, and don't regret it. Enjoyed the extra campaigns for Doom2 {I run it with GZDoom} and Doom3. It's all a matter of personal preference, I enjoyed them both.

    What's Doom 4's Future?

    I remember the first time I fired up Quake 1 and 2 after I got my two 12 meg Voodoo 2s', amazing graphics for the time. The gameplay was good and all, but the visuals really clinched it for me.
  3. I'm hoping for the second option, but it wouldn't take a lot to outshine those two turkeys. They have set the bar lower for all other new games. {"At least it's not as bad as....."}

    What's Doom 4's Future?

    I'm afraid it's looking a bit bleak. Duke Nukem Forever showed what a super long development cycle can cause. I just hope if it is ever released, it's not a clusterf*** like DNF was. Oh well, we live in hope. I'd even buy a good mission pack for Doom 3, but that won't be happening.

    Marines' appearance in ROE

    I shot coffee out my nose when I read this. I am a bad person. That thing with McNeil waving her arms, I always figured she was suffocating in that shrink wrapped uniform.

    Whats the point of the fists?

    I have a hard enough time staying alive armed to the teeth.

    Marines' appearance in ROE

    Is it just me, but does the Marine in ROE look like he is suffering from a severe head injury? Especially in the cutscene when he first gets to the scientist with the tablet. Poor guy looks a bit befuddled and cross eyed.

    Interesting Doom3 mod

    This is probably old news, but I ran across an interesting mod. For anyone who finds Doom3 a bit boring, I recommend you try this out. It introduces scavenging of bodies, speeds up and increases bad guys' aggressiveness, weapon features, a lot of graphical and game play tweaks. Makes the game a lot more interesting. This mod showcases some of the features in a more comprehensive mod {Star 1088} which bears watching. It's being done by one programmer I believe, impressive work. http://www.moddb.com/mods/star1088/downloads Probably doesn't work with BFG {what does}
  9. I have to agree, better nothing at all than a mess like Duke Nukem Forever, and I am a bit of a Doom fanatic. With all the speculation and hype, it would have to be spectacular to match, and I'm afraid the reality would be underwhelming, at best.

    Doom3 BFG on XP

    This is quite interesting, I was going by the system requirements on my DVD box. On it, it says Vista and up, proves what my Dad used to say, "Paper will not refuse ink, doesn't mean it's true." I thought it was odd that XP supposedly wasn't supported, game being a touch elderly. Figured Bill sent somebody a briefcase of money to lock XP out.

    The Official 'Trying to Find a Specific WAD' Thread

    I had a wad a while back that had the Doomguy making comments, such as "That was left handed" after a kill, etc. I probably still have it somewhere, but I can't find it for the life of me.

    Regarding the Flashligt...

    I was accustomed to switching from light to weapon in D3, got used to it quick. I find the "user friendly" light in BFG isn't really better or worse, just different. Of course, I'm fairly easy to please as I am extremely old, I predate Pong. Like a Redwood, or the Rockies. {Touchdown said} there was no flashlight in Hell I need this on a t shirt.

    Doom3 BFG on XP

    I recently downgraded my system from Win8 back to XP pro, as I hate that OS with every fiber of my being. I have the original Doom 3 installed, but I decided to reinstall BFG to see if ther lost missions were set up like regular mods. {As you probably know, they aren't}. I tried firing up Doom3 BFG on a whim, and lo and behold, it works like a charm. I thought this was a Vista and up deal only? Very odd. I see on Steam there was an update in November, I think, I was wondering if they added in XP support. I did a quick whip around the web, didn't come up with anything. I'm going to set up a dual boot with XP/Win7 as soon as I feel like buying yet another OS. If anyone wants my Win 8, let me know, bargains are afoot. I would have to charge what it is worth, which is nothing.
