Media that is so bad it's good.

  4. I'm pretty sure the story in the Doom 2 manual was bullshit that GT Interactive made up. (This is the same manual that calls the SSG the "Combat Shotgun" for some confounding reason.) It doesn't match up with what happens in Doom 1's ending and especially with Thy Flesh Consumed being added to the picture effectively retconning that stupidity, making it clear that Doom 2 happens as soon as you return to Earth. Of course, this is assuming that id even cared about all of this, which they most likely didn't lol.

Which Doom sound effects do you like/hate?

DSBRSDTH has always sounded like an irritated bear waking up from it's sleep from having a rock thrown at it to me for some weird reason, I think it sounds better reversed as it sounds more properly like a goat-like monster crumbling to it's death. DSPLASMA I've never cared for due to it just being a modified pistol sound that gets ear rapey on certain source ports. I much prefer the Aubrey Hodges plasma rifle sound. DSSLOP sounds really weak for gibbing enemies. It just does not sound like an entire body exploding into a pile of gore and bones. The thud at the end of DSSGTDTH also does not sync up with the animation of the pinky hitting the ground after dying. (Which Doom Zero does fix.) And like everyone else, I've never really cared for the chaingun reusing the pistol sound (and the chaingunners and spider mastermind using the shotgun sound).

Least favorite classic Doom or Doom 2 map?

Glad to know I'm not the only one who really doesn't see the love for that map. Seriously, the entire red key portion of that map is just a boring, bland glorified Wolfenstein 3D maze. Given that Doom was supposed to be an upgrade over that game in 1993, that is completely *unacceptable* in my opinion. Most of the traps can be skipped too if you know what you're doing. You can literally skip both of the baron/pinky traps towards the exit if you go through the red key maze first and then go to the yellow key room right after. One of those traps doesn't even function properly due to the thing placement causing the pinkies to be stuck. There's also no reason to revisit the fake exit once you know where it is other than to get a soulsphere. I'm pretty sure the only reason why people love this map so much is because of the atmosphere, but that's pretty much the only thing going for it. Gameplay wise, it's a boring slog to get through. Monster Condo in Doom 2 is pretty much Halls of the Damned's concept except 1000 times better. E2M5 is also pretty bland and uninteresting imo, with there being little reason to explore the map other than to get a plasma rifle and a few cell packs. (And a chainsaw too I guess, if you're playing from pistol start.) The secret exit is also way too easy to find. And the less said about E3 in general, the better.

Doom Sound Bulb - HD sounds that stay true to the original!

Did you get John to rerecord his line for you by chance, or did you just use EQ on it?

What's the best Nintendo 64 games you've ever played?

Regardless of what you think about the N64, you honestly can't deny that F-Zero X is the one first party title in the console's library that aged the best by far.

what snes games are still worth playing

Idk about Mortal Kombat (though I do know that the SNES version of the first game is generally regarded as being the worst version), but I have to say I strongly disagree about Star Fox. I really don't find the framerate as bad as people make it out to be. There were early 3D games on the Genesis and SNES that ran far worse such as Race Drivin. Current emulators and even the SD2SNES feature overclock options so this is practically a non-issue at this point imo. As for Star Fox 64, it is a great game but it's not without it's problems either. The game suffers from having levels that bog down the pacing of the game, particularly those that exclusively take place in all-range mode. Aquas and Katina are the worst offenders in this regard. The unbareably dark lighting and snail's pace framerate absolutely kill the former for me while the latter amounts to flying around in circles and waiting for the boss's core to appear. Katina, Fichina and Sector Z all suffer from the latter issue. This in itself wouldn't be a big problem, however the two routes in the game that offer the most points have one of those two aforementioned stages as the third mission, making me almost wanting to quit at that point on repeat playthroughs. These days whenever I replay SF64, I end up using a gameshark code to skip the stages I don't really care about and go straight to the levels I actually enjoy playing. SF1's levels are much more consistent in quality due to them all being on-rails, even if they don't reach the same heights as 64's best levels. With the exception of Fortuna, there isn't really a level in that game I find myself disliking. It doesn't have a proper scoring system/high score table like 64 does though, which sucks as it kills a lot of potential replay factor the game could have had. This is actually a very common consensus about the game from what I've seen myself.

Is it Doomguy, Doom Marine or Doom Slayer?

"Doomguy" is just a nickname made up by the Doom community, the marine in Classic Doom was never given a specific name because he was intended to be the player's avatar. Doom Slayer was made for Doom 2016 though.

Doom Annihilation was lame. What a disappointing movie. :/

You're making a film adaptation based on a game that only has minimal story for the sake of setting up the gameplay. What the fuck do you expect?

    Doom 1 or 2?

Episode 4 has better use of overall texturing than both of the original registered episodes though. I'd say they're both equal, given that Sandy has never been known for making visually pleasing maps and is more focused on making them fun to play, at least with Doom 2. As far as lack of episodes are concerned, just type idclev12 and idclev21 so you can play both the city and hell chapters of Doom 2 from pistol starts. That's how I do it.

    Doom 1 or 2?

I'd say episode 2 is just alright and episode 3 is crap. The only map I really liked in that entire episode was Mt. Erebus due to it's open sandbox design being a precursor of sorts to Sandy's city maps in Doom 2. Pandemonium was alright, but everything else was below average. House of Pain and Warrens feel like they were cobbled together at the last minute. I thought Episode 4 was pretty good. I found the drop in difficulty after E4M2 to be a bit disappointing, but I felt the episode overall was still very well made, and a vast improvement over the original registered episodes.

    Doom 1 or 2?

It's not so much that they're more complex, in fact it's more so the opposite. The maps generally feel far less polished and don't have nearly as solid of an overall gameplay flow compared to Romero's maps for Episode 1. They also don't have nearly as solid architecture and often don't have as much height variation. The entire red key maze in E2M6 is basically a glorified Wolf3D maze that is boring and tedious to navigate with the dark atmosphere being the only thing going for it. An immersive atmosphere means nothing when the gameplay of your map is lackluster.
