    What are you playing now?

Currently playing through TNT Evilution again in memory of Ty. I've been using a PSX sound effects WAD to liven things up a bit. Gotta love those shotgun sounds!

How to log hours playing Doom?

I'll check it out. Thanks for the answer. I was aware there were stat tracking programs and the like out there, but I only ever thought they worked with online gaming.

How to log hours playing Doom?

Just to know how many hours of my life I've enjoyed (wasted) on Doom.

How to log hours playing Doom?

Hey there. I was wondering if there is a way to log the hours I spend playing Doom. You know, similiar to how Steam tracks your hours played of any game in your library? Has anyone ever made some sort of application or program that does this, or is there a way to do it?
  5. Get off my lawn. No really though I use "classic" (lol) no mouse look etc, etc for most wads, and use mouse look and such when it comes to playing like, complex doom or something. Geez I thought this thread would turn into a br00tal vs "classic" gameplay thread. Yeah.

    Performance with different sourceports.

I'll give this a look VGA. Thanks for the response!

    Performance with different sourceports.

My apologies. I could of been more specific. -AMD A10-5700 APU with Radeon HD Graphics, quad core ~3.4GHz 8 gigs RAM. 512 vram. Actually is it the Vram? Still why would GZDOOM run like shit and Zandro run perfectly? -Always running the latest build of GZDoom off of DRD. -As far as IWADS/PWADS are concerned: On Zandronum, anything from vanilla doom.wad all the way through slaughter maps using Brutal Doom, (I hate Brutal Doom.) will run buttery smooth. On GZDOOM, the furthest I can go without stuttering is up to a slaughter map. If I load up a map with the amount of monsters a slaughter map usually contains, or a map that is as big as a slaughter map usually is, the stuttering begins almost right out of the gate. -No high quality texture filters or mods, not even bi or tri-linear texture filters. I usually have it set to none in the settings menu because I like chunky Doom sprites. I do however run with all the dynamic light settings on. As I said before, I have both Zandronum and GZDOOM running the EXACT SAME SETTINGS, and Zandro is always smooth. Also I run both sourceports in hardware mode (OpenGL) As you can imagine, I've tried all manner of graphical settings in GZDOOM, and it still stutters when loading up slaughter maps and beyond. What I always thought was that for some reason the OpenGL doesn't work properly in GZDOOM, but in Zandro it's perfect. Hopefully I was concise enough in my explanation. Also, I don't really want anyone to go really far out of their way to try and find an answer. I just was curious as to why this would be happening.

    Performance with different sourceports.

Hey everyone. I've been meaning to ask this for a long while, and it's something I could never figure out. Ever since I started using sourceports, I have ALWAYS had way better performance with Skulltag/Zandronum. It has always ran much faster for me, flawlessly in fact. Anytime I have ever went to use GZDoom, I get pretty major stuttering, and annoying technical hiccups. In my opinion, I have a beefy enough PC as far as running sourceports is concerned, so I don't think that is the issue here. I have tested both sourceports extensively with dozens of different WADS/MODS I use the exact same graphical settings in both. Skulltag/Zandro always runs flawlessly, while GZDOOM is a stutter-fest. Does anyone have any idea why this would be? This only really becomes a major problem when I go to try a new mod on the ZDoom forums and it requires GZDOOM to run, but it annoys the shit out of me regardless. This may in fact be a stupid question, but still.

So I've noticed divided reception of Brutal Doom lately

The one positive aspect of Brutal Doom IMO is that it has brought a lot of people into the Doom community. Of course its brought some shitheads, but I'm sure that some of these people could settle down and become contributing members to the community at large. Also: at least they aren't playing Call of Duty.

So I've noticed divided reception of Brutal Doom lately

I came back to Doom after a 10 year hiatus, oddly enough after seeing an article on Brutal Doom. I figured I'd give it a try. It was fun for roughly 20 minutes. After that, the obnoxious death screams, alternate monster attacks, and mindless gore ran itself VERY thin. So I booted up vanilla and pushed BD as far out of consciousness as humanly possible. Now all is right with the world. Edit: The fact that over-caffeinated 13 year olds demand Brutal Doom compatibility with PWADs is absurd. Not playing a classic WAD because BD either doesn't work with it or breaks it? GTFO.

Most legit sourceport for demo recording.

Didn't even know about anything other than Compet-N, hence my confusion.
  12. Hey all. I know a lot of people use PrBoom for demo recording, and it's what I'm currently using to play everything. My question: I know about the different categories and such in demos such as UV-MAX, etc., are there any guidelines pertaining to the sourceport you use? Or could I use any sourceport I want to?

    Best beginning slaughter maps?

I usually always go UV even after getting killed repeatedly, just because that is the standard. I'll try all of these out, thanks for all the info so far everyone! My ultimate goal is to be able to release demos that people would actually want to watch, UV-MAX being the category I'd like to go for.

    Best beginning slaughter maps?

So I've been trying my hand at some slaughter maps after watching so many different demos of them on Youtube. The thing is, I get my ass kicked on most of them. I know there are strategies to each and every map, things like ammo conservation, monster infighting, etc., and I also know that slaughter maps are created to be difficult. So far I've downloaded Sunder, SF2011, and SF2012. All are obscenely ridiculous on the difficulty scale IMO, but I really want to be able to beat them eventually. My question: What slaughter maps, if any, could be considered "easiest" for getting into the slaughter realm? I'm stuck in a Doom skill plateau, and I really need to break out of it.

    Interesting Doom read.

"A beautiful accident." I like that.
