Classic DOOM games available on gog.com starting today!

So do I KillingMachine, and it happened on my birthday too! :D Average - I have no idea, there is no info on the site.

If you were to make one PWAD canon, what would it be?

The word "arguably" being the most important here as "Final Doom" isn't canon at all (assuming any canon exists at all, I always thought "Doom II" was followed by "Doom 64" and then there was a reboot with "Doom 3"). However, to answer your question: This. The more time passes the more I appreciate this WAD and its influence, especially considering how early in the game's history it was released.

What is the overall worth of your steam library?

Over the last 6 years, you've spent 2306 hours playing this selection, which includes 115 items, is valued at $1662, and requires 416.1 GB

Is it still possible to buy DOOM RPG (for mobiles)?

Bummer then. Thanks for your reply Maes!
  5. What the title says - let's say I highlight a sector with an assigned "sector tag 1". Is it possible to somehow quickly find a different map element which has the same tag assigned (i.e. a switch which will open the door etc.)? I seem to be unable to find the option. Thanks in advance for your help!

How to find sector tags in Doombuilder?

Yes, that worked and I found what I was looking for - thank you!
  7. There is a room in the map with 4 teleporters in it. Each of those leads to a similar mini-maze and eventually all those mini-mazes meet in a blue skull key room, which has a teleport back to the room with 4 teleporters. The problem is, once you enter any of those 4 teleporters it closes down. So my question is - assuming you've closed all 4 teleporters and teleport back from the blue skull key room one more time, are you trapped and the map becomes unbeatable? I didn't get caught in the situation, but played around with it after saving my game and I honestly don't know if the blue skull key room is still accessible after all 4 teleportes have been closed. Please share what you know. Thanks in advance :)
  8. Big thanks for this tutorial Linguica! I suggest stickying it - it's a good source of information for compiling in general.

romero is at doomworld, what about carmack?

Carmack doesn't really like interviews either. His work ethic is legendary and he is very reluctant to do anything except coding, unless something has changed.

    What are you playing now?

Going through the first "Memento Mori". I'm currently at map 20.

It seems we don't really exist.

That's actually spot on. I've met some fanatic Fallout "fans" and they're always like "OMG PART 3 AND NEW VEGAS WERE THE BEST", but when you try to get justification for the opinion in the form of comparison with former games (I've completed FO1, FO2 and FOT so I can talk about those) it turns out they have never even played the isometric ones... I haven't played FO3 and onwards, but yeah, I'm not really convinced to the product having witnessed its audience... though I could say the same about the majority of Brutal Doom fans and I really enjoyed the mod :P
  12. A fellow player asked to help him with installing Brutal Doom 2.0. I offered help and suggested to use GZDoom 1.8.02 with the mod. Having installed everything, the player encountered the following error: The game proceeded to load, but with no sound. In the process of looking for the source of the problem, the player decided to run GZDoom without the mod and here's what happened: The error rougly translates as: "Program <path>\fmodex.dll is not meant to be run in the Windows system or contains an error. Reinstall the program using the original install disc or contact the system administrator or the provider of the software to get help. Error state: 0xc0000022" Then we decided to try Zandronum and it worked without any problems. Since Zandronum also comes bundled with fmodex.dll, we decided to copy it to GZDoom folder... and it worked as well! Could it be then that fmodex.dll bundled in GZDoom archive is faulty? My friend uses Windows 8. I use Windows 7 and have never experienced such problems when using GZDoom, with or without Brutal Doom (and I use fmodex.dll from GZDoom's package). Any ideas?

Fmodex.dll bundled with GZDoom causes errors

I thought only some privileged few had this right in the Doom community. Thanks for the info! EDIT: Done, awaiting authorization :)

Fmodex.dll bundled with GZDoom causes errors

I realized only now that there is a NEW site for the GZDoom project. Google misled me as I thought the first result was the official place of the project. Even though Doomwiki.org mentions both sites, the first one is the "not working" one. Perhaps someone could edit this information and explicitly state that the site is dead? Graf Zahl, I tried clicking your link, but the proper one ends in .org http://forum.drdteam.org I can see that there are two "forks" of GZDoom (at least that's how I understand it). 2.x.x and 1.8.x What's the difference between those? EDIT: Found the answer. One is for OpenGL 3.0 and the other for OpenGL 2.0.

Fmodex.dll bundled with GZDoom causes errors

We fixed the problem (we took the .dll from a different source), but would it be possible to update the .dll in the package (or whole version) of GZDoom on its site? Just so people who don't frequent those forums can avoid problems?
  16. I WAS born "back in the day", but computer networks weren't really a commodity so I didn't get a chance to test Doom back "when it mattered". However, I also like Dwango5 Map01 the best :D

New extended edition of 'Masters Of DOOM' confirmed

So basically the "old" book and its sequel! I can't wait!
  18. Great find! And seriously, whenever I think I can finally SORT OF understand the limits of Carmack's genius something new comes up. If computers hadn't been invented, Carmack would have built them himself.

    Brutal Doom v20 released

I've decided to try BD 2.0 and I have to admit it's absolutely fantastic. I'm really impressed by those otherwise insignificant changes that could have easily been omitted, but which have been included anyway - such as water ripples. Great job Mark! I'm joining the ranks of BD fans :P However, I will NOT agree with people who say that BD is harder than vanilla. Right now I'm playing "Doom II" IWAD and thus far (I reached map08) each level has been significantly easier (I play on ultra-violence and compare it to vanilla ultra-violence). When I first blasted a Revenant into oblivion with just one super-shotgun shot I thought "really? that's all it takes?", mind you it's not a BAD thing - the MOD is insanely fun because of that. I'm just stating that it is NOT harder than vanilla. The spin-up time of chaingunners gives me plenty of time to run and hide from the barrage. Shotgun guys have to reload their shotguns, most weapons deal insane damage and even the default assault rifle can make short work of many mid-tier opponents because of headshots... ... and I love it! Brutal Doom is not meant to be competitive. It's meant to be fun and definitely delivers in that area. I genuinely recommend it for people who seek some leisure killing instead of trying to make those nightmare runs succesful :D I'm eagerly waiting for Sgt. Mark IV's map pack.

    Snap(map)chat

It was said in the presentation that the editor allows for full customization of the items. I believe they only showed the "easy mode" to make it clear anyone will be able to make a map. Naturally, more skilled people will be able to use "advanced mode" and create whatever they wish. A perfect solution if you ask me.

    Story and SP Campaign Design

I think it will be a reimagination of the first Doom again. I don't have anything against it and I actually like the idea of the story being told by those holograms, like the one with a hell knight we saw in the presentation. Just make them brief.

    Bethesda E3 Conference - DOOM4 Unveiling

I watched the presentation. Probably game of the year 2016 for me... 'nuff said. Can't wait to get it!!!

What's the legal status of Doom II ?

Tim Willits (made maps for UD episode 4 + master levels for DOOM II) is probably the most important person in id Software right now. He's the main guy responsible for their titles' design Kevin Cloud (an artist for Doom and Doom II) is also still there, currently having the position of lead artist and co-owner of the whole company. So YES - there are still guys in id Software who worked on Doom back in the day. In fact, they occupy very important positions.
