New Doom Eternal Footage on Google Stadia

And so it ends the seven month DOOM Eternal info. drought. I knew it. Marty said they had the "full game" ready on the Stadia and I definitely was looking forward to see it. Edit: "Zombie Earth" sounds like a placeholder name. It also wouldn't surprise me...
  2. And speaking of that Caco, I just would like to point out the obvious: the look of the back of the classic Cacodemon in the promotional flyer doesn't match the look of the original sprite in that exact angle. So that's either: - The 3D model they used for the Cacodemon coin bank - Or an entirely new recreation that was quickly made just for this occasion. If you ask me, I don't believe we're going to see literal HD renditions of the classic demons in Eternal. That would be a whole new level of fanservice in the game that is highly unlikely to happen.
  3. As long as Zenimax owns id and the DOOM franchise, such thing will never, ever happen, period.

DOOM: Annihilation - the new Doom movie

And we still see their face. And that's my point, the face is everything in most action movies from Hollywood. The only exception being shows like the Power Rangers where ultimately it's the spandex suit fighting that sells and not the actors. Even in the first PR movie from the 90s they were supposed to be wearing faceless helmets until one of the actors pointed out how the kids would hate that design because they were accustomed to watch them without seeing their faces while being on the suit. And in two of them is just the HUD. In-game he's always hearing a helmet. And let's be honest, the face in the third one looks like crap. Not until 8-7 years ago people thought the Doom comic was absolute garbage. But hey, times sure do change and now there's people willing to go to bat for it. Wonder what happened during that time...

DOOM: Annihilation - the new Doom movie

First of all, fuck the Doom comic. Second of all, the quintessential proof that a DOOM movie will never be able to satisfy everyone can be found with one simple question: If there was a Doomguy in that movie, would you want him to speak, or not? Most Hollywood action movies are supported by the expressions of its protagonists, and people can mention Fury Road all they want but when you look at it you would find that Tom Hardy still had some lines and we could still see his face. Doomguy barely emotes in the game, and I mean, in DOOM 2016 he never shouted or yelped at all. To which I say: Good luck getting an action movie with a 100% silent protagonist to work in Hollywood and sell tickets, let alone get approved and financed by any movie studio. We know about the Dooms, the Resident Evils, the Street Fighters and the Prince of Persias, but do we even know about the amount of videogame movie pitches that were shot down by movie studios for not being convincing enough (on their eyes)?

The freaking outro in that video is almost as long as the teaser trailer.

DOOM: Annihilation - the new Doom movie

So this is basically an origin story, right? I wasn't expecting the synopsis to be such a dead giveaway of the entire plot of the film. See, my friends? This is why shutting one's piehole until we could know more details about the plot of the movie actually pays off!

DOOM: Annihilation - the new Doom movie

Don't mind me, just quoting what's on the article for the handful that are too lazy to click. And for those of you who are doubting the veracity of this info., DreadCentral were the first to report and confirm key members of the cast of the new film. Now here's the deal. For Universal to have positive feelings about a movie from a franchise which previously failed on its first big screen iteration and became an immediate reference for bad videogame movies, it gives a light of hope for those of you who want a big budget movie about DOOM. The average budget for superhero movies these days oscillates around the $200M-400M mark. Give or take, this new DOOM movie might be around $10M-20M in budget, and I'm probably being too generous. Perhaps you shouldn't have expected a movie studio to throw around superhero movie money to a franchise that has a bad record, but for Universal to give Tony and the rest of the team more time to work on the visual effects of a scene that might not even last more than 10 minutes - and to top it off, to extend the release date all the way to Fall of this year, it makes you feel like they actually have hopes for this film to become a moderate success and light up the chances for a sequel with all the bells, whistles and green space marine action that people want.
  9. That's why I said factoid.
  10. Just mentioning this for further reference, this interview was originally published on December 4, 2017. I would like to assume they make articles public a year after they're published, but who knows, really. Sandy confirming that he put the torn Baron corpses in E2M8 intentionally to tell the player something big was coming is amazing. He definitely got the reaction he wanted from some players at the time. That bit about him naming all the levels in Doom 2 just further adds fuel to that (yet to be debunked or confirmed) factoid about MAP21.

DOOM: Annihilation - the new Doom movie

Somehow I feel that they're going to have a set of characters to tell the story (the ones we already know) and then have an unnamed one that never speaks and we never see their face but have everyone else interact with it. For all we know they could be hiding the identity of another actor that will play Doomguy in the film but has yet to be spoiled/revealed/added to IMDB. I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

    Recommended Soundfonts?

Kinda off-topic (and sorry about that), but do we have a verifiable source for this? Because I recall reading this piece of trivia somewhere on the internet; that's the kind of DOOM trivia you don't hear every time someone does a "Top 10 DOOM Facts" video, and I'd really like to have a "reputable" source just for posterity's sake (and also because I couldn't find such piece of info. on the DoomWiki).

Usenet: First Usage of the Term "DOOM Slayer"!

Incredible to learn that we still have traceable records of the reception the game received even a day and a half after it came out, almost 25 years ago (!!).

    DOOM Eternal Gameplay Reveal Impressions

Man, remember three years ago when people were boosting the colors of the demons and complaining about "piss filters"?

Anyone on the fence about the reveal?

You probably should have considered not mentioning it in the first place. Now people will do it on purpose.
  21. Echoing what everyone else said. Ultimate-Guitar and TuxGuitar is the winning combination. Thankfully they updated TuxGuitar to read GPX files without needing an extra website to convert them to GP5. The only problem that may arise is when you download a Guitar Pro tab and it's just the guitar. That's why you should always double-check if they have all the instruments. It's obviously much harder to find tabbed songs from obscure bands, but when you do...*chef kiss* Don't forget to credit the author of the transcription!

DOOM: Annihilation - the new Doom movie

Looks like we're going to get another reference to an id software dev: an actress named Lorina Kamburova has been billed in the movie to play a character named Sandy Peterson. I am not gonna lie, it's definitely a nice nod, but I mean...I hope we don't get a new influx of "Sandy Peterson"s when they want to refer to the id software mapper Sandy Petersen. We have enough people misspelling his name already!
  23. Oh my God this is sooo amazing! Thank you so, so much for making this available to the public! The Icon of Sin wall from DOOM 2 RPG looks so damn good. I fully expect to see it in a mod as soon as someone takes notice of it. The rest of the textures look also pretty good (the ones from the iOS version). And yes I would also be very interested in knowing the process of figuring out the encoding of the game's files. You have won my eternal gratitude. Gracias, Erick!
