Just started Level 5 of Evil Egypt! Level 4 was one of the best levels I've ever played in that style. Welllllll done. Incidentally, I am playing on HMP and the skill level seems really well balanced for that too. No big issues so far. A few spots where I had to jump / crouch but I always assume you don't have to. Are all of these levels updates of previous levels?

On my PC I have a folder for WADs, and that's divided into "To play" and "Finished!" My "To Play" folder could really use for some more WADs done in the classic original Doom style. FYI I am 9 levels into "Doom 2 the Way id Did" and while I think they missed a few key design signatures that id Software / Romero wouldn't do, I am having lots of fun with them. Just randomly saw a review for it on the sidebar of this website and tried it out. I also need to play "Doom 1 the Way id Did" if it exists? And what else should I try? -

UPDATE! I am on LEVEL 6 of No Sleep For The Dead now! After replaying LEVEL 1 and trying better use of ammo, I managed to press on and I'm not having any issues now. And I am quite enjoying your levels! Realllllly like how you tend to show the secrets that people missed close to the level exits. That often encouraged me to backtrack and try for them. Now one tiny thing I didn't realize is that I needed to use the JUMP key. I just figured that out in LEVEL 6 After Level 5 the "classic Doom" thing seems to kind go by the wayside but I hope to finish off the final 9th LEVEL tonight. -

I haven't played many GZDoom-specific WADs but I really enjoyed this! It felt very fresh to me. Also for once I enjoyed playing a map with nukage-style floor I wasn't used to the look of the switches, so it took me a bit longer to figure out how to finish than it should have (not realizing a few things were actually switches). But I got 100% everything. I didn't find any issues, and would definitely play more of your maps. -

I'm 8 levels into Wonderful Doom and this is a good retro .WAD so far. It's not holding my interest like the first 4-5 levels did but I may come back to it. -

Just finished! Didn't find the 9th level, and I didn't get my rocket launcher until like level 6 but I really enjoyed all 8 maps! I did get very lost a few times. You like If you have any more like this let me know. -

Finished the first 3 levels. Lots of fun and perfect length and so far they are exactly what I was hoping for, thank you! I'd love to make some maps like this someday. -

I'll look into the switch issues, thank you! In some spots I wanted people to think they were pulling the power and I am not sure that concept came across. The lava textures on the ceiling have to stay as that's part of the "hell" motif, but I did try and mix it up with rock (and such) in some parts. Something I am noticing is that every player is missing one Archvile + Berserk room in Level 3. You missed it, and Clippy did too. Suitepee didn't miss it as I actually added that room (and quite a bit of stuf) after Suitepee had already streamed it (he played a much older version). You can only get to this room from the big elevator that brings you down. (You can go up and down that elevator as much as you want BTW). You didn't explore Level 3 as much as 1 or 2 so I am wondering if you were bored or distracted. Missed a tonne of stuff (not just secrets) :) Thanks again for playing, and I am adding your name to the THANK YOUs in my text file that comes with the map. -

I'm having a huge problem letting go of my .WAD and saying "It's done!", and not continuing to tinker with it. How do you know when enough is enough? Presumably all of the bugs / issues have been sorted out, but I can't stop going in and tweaking stuff. Game: DOOM 2 Map #: MAP01, MAP02, MAP03 (3 new levels) Single Player: Yes, and all skill levels supported Build Time: 3 months creating the original .WAD (in 1996-1997) and 4 more months (in 2020) upgrading it! Jumping and Freelook: No, Vanilla Doom! What are the maps LIKE?: Map01 is massive, and has 3 distinct sections/styles. It was the first map I ever made and at the time I wanted to throw in everything because I wasn't sure if I'd make another! Map 02 is short, very fast and frantic. For quite a few people it's their favourite of the 3 (if you like super fast, shorter maps). Map 03 is medium-sized compared to #1, but still quite "large" and has been redone from the ground-up. Stylistically it's more like #2 but with the larger scope and amount of secrets like #1. All 3 maps CAN be played from a pistol start, and were tested that way (as well as tested back-to-back). -

I will check ALL of these out, thanks for the suggestions everyone! FYI not looking just for "vanilla" textures, etc. but more specifically their layouts and how the play and feel. I've yet to find anything that feels like the original Doom levels. -

Thanks! For some reason the "Texas" link is broken, but I got it from Greece. Will try this out. Incidentally I did a search and found this from 2012: I assume the one you linked is just the newest version? Looks like 2019? -
Haha you got it! And then it took me another 2 minutes to do that and find my way back to the exit. Never did find the 36th monster. Probably a Lost Soul that was hanging out somewhere?

My hot take! PREFACE: I haven't played this map since it came out. I think it's hot garbage. I could recreate it in a few days. HOWEVER if there was an RPG for Doom, this would work well for that. It's the start of something decent more akin to an Ultima-style RPG dungeon level. So I'm almost 14 minutes into playing this level, and I have killed all but 1 monster, and switched almost everything... EXCEPT I can't find "III". I've done 1, 2, and 4. Can't. Find. III. LOL.

If you get a chance to try my 3-map WAD let me know: I'd maybe suggest trying it on ULTRA VIOLENCE as I think its skill level seems more in line with original Doom 2's on UV IMO (than most WADs I try) but that's of course up to you! -

No prob, but if you do return FYI you've given me some great feedback and I am already tweaking stuff as we speak. Like a batch of Cacodemons that I had initially kept stuck in one area because I didn't want them floating out too far ahead, but you noted how they all bunched up, so I unstuck them, while keeping them in the area I wanted. if anything else comes to mind in your playthrough please let me know so I can address it. Do you think me blocking people off encourages them to replay the levels and try things a different way? Or to just say to heck with it, I only got what I got, and not bother playing again? It's something I've gone back and forth on but ultimately I seem to prefer leaving certain areas blocked off to create tension VS. letting you backtrack through everything again on one playthrough. I'm rewatching your video again and fixing the small issues as you come across them. Like in Level 1 when you got the shotgun shells down from the ledge without lowering it first. I didn't even know that was possible. At first I thought you jumped. But you used the little platform the gun was on to gain just that tiny bit of height. So I lowered that platform down :) Also trying to track down the misc. damaging floors I want to fix ASAP. -

FYI working this morning on fixing those few stray damaging floors. Also trying to decide if I want the player to be able to go back through You missed a bunch of side stuff leading up to that battle.
