  1. Of the GBA/DS games I think I enjoy Dawn of Sorrow the most, but I'm not sure if that's for purely nostalgic reasons or what. Aria of Sorrow is also great but unfortunately I never had that game growing up so it wasn't until several years later that I finally had a chance to play it. Unrelated side note: I unironically think Castlevania 64 is a good game. Please direct all hate messages to my inbox. :)

    [FINAL RELEASE] Eviternity

I just wanted to chime in and say I had a great time playing through this project from start to finish, and plan on doing a second playthrough very soon! Props to Dragonfly and everyone else that helped make one of the best WADs I've played in quite some time. :)

    Breach

This one took me by surprise. Absolutely wonderful use of stock Doom 2 resources, great atmosphere / world building, and doesn't overstay its welcome. 5/5.

Pretty cool couple of maps! Nice use of stock Doom 2 resources.

    Metroid

How is them making a new game in a series you're not a fan of considered desperation on their part, but a new StarFox game is totally cool and worthwhile? I'd like to see both series succeed personally. It's unfortunate that Star Fox Zero didn't quite live up to expectations. Nintendo has let one of their most well regarded franchises languish in mediocrity for years now, so for them to reveal two new and promising titles is kind of a big deal. As a fan of the series I'm glad I finally have something to look forward to.

    Ubisoft you done it again

The Mario X Rabbids game looks good, I don't know what y'all are babbling about. It's a neat little strategy game that actually looks more like Mario meets X-COM than the throwaway party game I was initially expecting, which was a nice surprise. There have been some great genre-crossing Mario games in the past (such as Paper Mario and the like), so I'm willing to give it a fair shot. The Beyond Good & Evil 2 reveal was neat, but it's hard for me to be excited when all we got was a pre-rendered cinematic trailer.

    WadAuthor is Freeware

WadAuthor was my first Doom map editor, and still holds a lot of sentimental value to me. I don't think I would have gotten into Doom editing in the way that I did if it weren't for your editor. I think there's a lot of value to be had in preserving old tools like these, so I'm thankful that you're willing to provide a freeware license after all this time. Here's hoping you're able to make the source code co-operate with modern tools; I'm sure there's several people in the community that'd love to tinker with it!

    Mario Kart 8 DX

It's Mario Kartâ„¢. Bur srsly, it's fun... the definitive Mario Kart experience, even. Plenty of tracks, characters, and game modes galore. I think the Nintendo Switch needed a game like this to really sell some of its core gimmicks for me. The ability to connect multiple Switch units together to play with a large group away from home is seamless and works incredibly well. Excited for other multiplayer-focused games like Splatoon 2 to come out for this thing. Where's my Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch?

Loving everything about this song / album.

Can you stop raging at games?

At this point in my life, I can't say I really play any video games to such a degree that I would feel stressed out or even "rage" at them. Gaming is simple entertainment to me, much in the way that watching TV or listening to music are to most people. If a game is getting too difficult, I usually either tone down the difficulty setting, or find something else to do.

Did you cheat through Doom as a kid?

Doom was very much a sandbox to me as a kid, so I spent more time messing around with cheat codes than actually playing the game normally. I remember thinking as a kid that if I could somehow survive the forced death ending of E1M8 that the game would continue and I'd find new and exciting areas to explore beyond that dark room you get teleported into. I also thought that there was some unimaginable evil inside that dark room that could only be defeated if I could light up the room and see what I was actually faced with. Lo and behold, IDDQD didn't help, and IDBEHOLDL just led to disappointment. But hey, I learned a thing or two about the inner workings of the game in the process, so that's cool!

Ooh, that was really neat. Gonna have to check out more from them. Now that I'm feeling all djent-y...

    What are you listening to?

Eh, I was looking through my album collection for anything that would fit into the avant-garde music thread @Jimmy started... decided that while this is certainly an experimental album, I wouldn't necessarily consider it "avant-garde": If experimental math rock is your kind of deal, this is the album to check out in my opinion.

    New Forum

I imagine it'll get better going forward. All of the current news posts were directly translated from the old site/forum, so I can see why it might not be the prettiest. I can also foresee a myriad of improvements to future editions of the /newstuff Chronicles now that we have more modern tools to work with.

    how often do you save?

If I'm playing in (G)ZDoom, I actually have the Q and E keys bound to Quicksave/Quickload, so yeah... consider me a 5 steps-per-save kind of guy.

    Video game music thread

I've been absolutely obsessed with NieR series lately. The soundtracks from both games have some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard, video game or not. A couple of my favorites: lol

I'd actually be really curious to know what all went into migrating off the ancient software Doomworld was running on. Could not possibly have been as easy as hitting an "Export" button.

    Vocaloids...

Vocaloid is a computer program that allows you to synthesize vocals. It is, by nature, not tied to any particular genre, much in the way that an electric guitar is not mutually exclusive to Rock and Roll music. Not everyone is born with golden pipes, so it exists as a means for producers of music to more easily add vocal tracks to their songs. If you prefer to listen to live vocals that's fine... but saying it has no reason to exist is just plain ignorant. By that token, why should any sort of synthesizer exist when we have perfectly good live instruments that have been around forever? Let's get rid of MIDI too, while we're at it; god forbid something exist that enables the end user to more easily create music.
