  1. That FOV gives a futuristic feeling! Nice run! I am not quite keen on the records of E1M1 but looks like sub8 is a milestone for sure. Is this a world record?
  2. I ask this, because there are always multiple instances in which you literally have to guess which fields might contain the mines (and this kind of ruins the fun for me, because it is impossible to be always correct by just having to guess the answer). Here is a collection of a few examples. Can you tell which fields have the mines? We can say for sure that we have to flag exactly two fields. But how many legit possible ways are there to do this in this example? Let's quickly go through them. - first possible solution - second possible solution - third possible solution - fourth possible solution Only one solution is correct. Meaning that we have 25% chance of literally guessing the right answer. Let's try the first option and open the field from top to bottom. - going for the first option We died! One mine was placed correctly though...
  3. Thanks! Just did the suggested 30x16 170mines field. It is solvable without guessing and I did it! ^_^ (The two remaining mines need to be placed at the left and right from the 2, no other option, therefore the last mine is occupying the field on the very far left.) This was honestly the most fun and satisfying game of Minesweeper I ever had and the newly acquired knowledge from this thread helped me as well in solving this puzzle.
  4. Might be last example from me (alltogether 5 mines are left): The top-right corner is obviously a 50-50 guess unless someone knows the algorithm or something and knows how the system usually places the mines. But the more interesting part is the top left corner. Alltogether 5 mines are left, meaning that we need to place 4 mines on the top left corner of the board. Though is this possible to solve? Or are there multiple solutions? Let's try it out shall we? -one possible solution - second solution -third solution (actual solution of the game) - fourth solution, fifth solution and so on... Thus, I would argue that in a game of Minesweeper there is never exactly one solution, unfortunately this is no proof! But if there does not exist an exact solution then it is pretty much a game of luck at certain times. Maybe this is what makes this game attractive/addictive afterall? We could try to test a few fields by chance but there are 11 fields on the top left corner and 4 of them are mines thus 4/11 = 36% chance to hit a mine. I don't know, given the fact that I sometimes even hit a mine while clicking around on the starting field doesn't give me a very secure feeling to wildly guess one field. Also, I didn't test the other Minesweeper game, but since the computer actually tries to solve the field on its own I guess such situations won't occur there.
  5. As far as I understand, you suggest this. But couldn't this scneraio also happen? Maybe with a continuation like this. I admit it is quite fabricated, I didn't want to think out a whole scenario, so I tried to fill the gaps with the highest numbers possible. As of now I would have used 10 additional mines meaning 21-10 = 11 mines remaining to place on the rest of the board.
  6. Very nice! I'll try the top-left corner then and see how far I come. Edit: WTF!?! It didn't save the game. Baaaaaaah. Sorry. I am pretty sure after your explanation that the top left would have been a mine.
  7. An actual full sized example solved as much as possible with the newly acquired knowledge. Mind you, this is a new game. I stopped at this position and will continue after getting enough input. I can't see any further logical continuation of the given situation. At this point I'd have to guess and knowing the nature of the game I am pretty sure there is a mine on both of the top corners at the 1-2-1 combination at the middle. But how can we be sure? We still need to place exactly 21 mines in this game. Edit: I am terribly sorry, but for some reason Minesweeper began a new game when I started again this time around. It sometimes used to fire up the game I left, but this time it bugged out for some reason :(

Ask random questions, and they will be answered.

Is a DC bias BIBO (bounded input bounded output) stable?

    The ULTIMATE Master WAD Guide

This is a very nice post! Thank you for making it! :) Also, for people whom not even Holy Hell is enough slaughterish there is also an Okuplok map with an even higher amount of monsters. Edit: I think, I was wrong about the monster count. Holy Hell Revealed has like double the monsters.

So where does your username come from?

Since I love historical cars in racing games, I thought I'd call myself roadster, but then I thought that it would be "too unoriginal" and removed the letter 'a'. Later on I worried that rodster would have a weird/bad meaning and decided to check on if it has any meaning at all, turns out it has something to do with fishing or fishermen, so that is fine for me! :D I never went fishing myself, but it does look like a calming activity!

How to use XDRE [TAS information]

Haha, thanks for the mention @Dimon12321 :D it is true though. @almostmatt1 this looks really neat and I love the layout. Thanks for taking your time and making this tutorial! :) And also thanks for mentioning me haha xD

    ANOMALY (WAD)- Full release

For anyone who wants to play it on Beautiful Doom, make sure to disable "Beautiful Doom Decorations" because if it is enabled it breaks the floating lava stones.

    ANOMALY (WAD)- Full release

Ohhh that is very nice. No DoomBuilder cheating possible :D This is a good challenge. Am really loving the maps, thank you for making this awesome wad!

    ANOMALY (WAD)- Full release

I played through this and it was awesome! Quite addictive I must say, played through it fully in almost one sitting (had to go to bed haha). Though, I noticed one thing, could be possible that there is a minor bug on map4. I don't see any way to enter the secret area with the megasphere. I checked on DoomBuilder and as it seems there is no linedef action for the TeleportDestination with Tag5.
  16. Just wanted to say that I have never seen or heard of a military coup that ended well for anyone. Usually a military coup ends up with so called legal executions, basically getting rid of the unpleasant educated people and establishing a military dictatorship. We witnessed it in Egypt and Sissy is still ruling. He did execute about 8 or 12 young men just for their thoughts. I don't know why USA, Israel and EU are supporting Sissy to be honest. Also it is surprising that no news media talked about those executions. Whatever...
  17. Always check the sources. Who says which claim and do they have proof.
  18. I don't follow the happenings over there very closely but just be sure that you don't end up being one of CIA's puppets or Soros' great "revolutionary" puppets. If you see the protestors use any US or UK flags or a "fist-symbol" just be careful. Also, most importantly, never ever ask help from USA or European countries such as Germany, France and UK. Also, also, I disagree, violence shouldn't be the solution. But what kind of violence did the protestors use? If they were burning local stores you can maybe guess that they are not working for Chilean interests.
  19. Hey SWDude, great to see you back and posting this run! I remember still when we worked on this run. Thanks for adding me :). Though I would like to add that I worked on very tiny parts. I loved your routed and tricks (especially the double archjump for the blue map, map 08 or something it was). Definitely a great watch and good moments. Btw I am stuck at map23 now on sf2012... another double archjump problem with blocking monsters xD. I hope to see more stuff from you mate!!! :)
  20. As a child I used to read almost only Stephen King and loved his writing style and novels. Which ones did I read, let me rehash "The Running Man", "Rose Madder", "Shining", "Firestarter", "Carrie", Pet Sematry", "The Mist" and as well as a couple of short stories. I also watched the movies "Shining", "Pet Sematry", "Carrie" and the beginning of "The Mist" and now "The Dark Tower". The Mist was the worst one. There was a totally unnecessary kissing and sex scene at the beginning which didn't even occur in the novel. They just bastardauzed the novel with that movie. Why the harsh critics to The Dark Tower? Just because there are no sex scenes? Just because there are no nude scenes? It is ridiculous how critics usually favorize sex scenes. For some reason, the movies I like usually always get a bad rating. Also the critics, I read a few... for fucks sake the novels consists of 8 books. 8 fucking books it is a surprise that they were able to put so much details into one movie already! How about appreciating the effort instead of just mindlessly shitting on it? I really dismiss critics in general. They are usually always wrong and write bullshit only.

    Slaughterfest 2012 demos [-complevel 9]

Congratulations for beating the TAS time of 0:55 seconds on this map! Apparently going for the archjump (TAS route) wasn't the fastest route in this map :D
  22. 1. Where to get XDRE 2.20? You can download XDRE 2.20 from here. Once the page loaded, click on xdre-2.20-msw.zip and then click on Ansicht im Originalformat (see Figure 1), the download prompt of your browser should open up and you should be able to download that file now. Be aware, my system language is set to German and the German text above roughly translates to "Show original format". Figure 1 Extract the zip file to a place of your choice, for example C:/Games/Doom/XDRE 2.20. After extracting the files you can try to run xdre.exe. If an unusual blue window pops up, then calmly click on Weitere Informationen (translation: "More information") and then on Trotzdem ausführen (translation: "continue") (see Figure 2). Figure 2 2. Why doesn't it still run? XDRE needs an IWAD to be able to run. For that, just copy and paste an IWAD of your choice (e.g. if you want to run Doom 2 or a PWAD based on Doom 2 then you can for example copy and paste your doom2.wad or freedoom2.wad into your XDRE folder. The same goes for Doom 1 or Plutonia or TNT.) If you try to open xdre.exe now, then you should hopefully see a black window popping up. Even if it might seem strange, that black window means that XDRE has opened up successfully! Now, drag the black window a bit to the side, this should reveal you a second window (see Figure 3). This second window is where you can input your commands and read specific stats about your Doommarine and the map (we will have a further look into this in Part 2 of our Tutorial). Figure 3 3. Why didn't we download XDRE 2.21? That version of XDRE doesn't really work. 4. Where did XDRE come from? As you could see on Figure 2 already, it reads Herausgeber: Unbekannter Herausgeber (translation: "Author: Unknown Author"). As far as I could gather (thanks to @Looper and @38_ViTa_38) the creator of XDRE is @xepop. Xepop built XDRE from DRE 2 (Doom Replay Editor 2). Though, XDRE 2.14 up to XDRE 2.21 were created by Vita. However, as a coincidence, there are 2.14 and 2.17 by both Vita and Xepop.
  23. Thank you! I'd gladly watch the video tutorial and I believe others would enjoy it too!! Sometimes video tutorials are more easy and better to follow, I think it depends on the reader/viewer on an individual level. Edit: Part 2 is not quite fully done so to say xD. Might take some time.
