    Well, I was installing an add-on program, and somehow it overwrote the doom2.wad and the doom2.exe file!

    I do have Doom II 1.666 backed up on a CD, but none of the patches seem to work. Looks like no Doom II for a while. :(

    Maybe I will find some way to fix it - hopefully I will soon. At least my save-game file was OK! :)

      Yeah, those were the exact same patches I tried - no luck. Thanks anyways.

      Go to ftp://3darchives.in-span.net/pub/idgames/idstuff/doom2/ and download the 1.666->1.7a and 1.7a->1.9 patches. (doom2p16 and d2_19pat) They worked for me.

      If you have Doom 2 version 1.666, and the patches aren't working, then the most likely cause is that you have a pirated version. That's the price you pay for using ripped-off software.

      I don't understand how an add-on could wreck the game files though, unless it involved some toy like DeHacked or DeuSF in some way.
