Hey all. My first finished HL2 map was just recently released as a part of RTSL's 1 Billion Units Experimental mapping challenge! Go and check it out!

Did a bit of work on a 1024^3 sized map for q1 AD. I'm really liking the looks of it so far.
If anyone who makes q1 maps are interested in this project, go here: [Advent Jam]

Recently decided to try my hand at blocking out a bit of level geometry and then making it look pretty afterwards.

Hey, I made a quake map in just 3 days! This is part of SM191 on the Quake mapping discord! Play it here: SM191: Origins

@JDR Oops. Link should be working now.

So over the weekend, I made this quake map that uses some solid colors found in Khreathor's prototype texture wad, part of a speedmapping session that was held over the course of a week. -
hey everyone, I'm just gonna let you know that I made a map for SM184 - Mayan

So it's 2021, and the COVID Pandemic is still going, but that's not going to stop me from making stuff. I've got a bunch of new year's resolutions in mind, and one of them is to make and release a 6 level mapset for Doom. It's nothing too ambitious, but it's more of an excuse to work on something at my own pace, which kinda feels nice since I can just pick away at a map for a little bit and not have to worry about a looming deadline like I always have whenever I participate in a community project. Below is a shot from MAP01, which I personally feel is a big change to my style of mapping. I managed to get out of the crazy shapes mindset in favor of clean detailing and architecture. I'm really happy with how this turned out.
On top of that, I recently tried to make a speedmap inspired by the works of Iikka Keränen, most notably his maps in Dystopia 3. I ran out of time, so I decided to take the time to refine it a bit more.
[Early WIP]
I will probably return to this whenever I get tired with working on my main project, but at the same time I'm thinking about making like 3 maps total. Coming whenever, I guess.
Another thing that's been on my mind for the past few months is that I've recently come to terns that I may have ADHD. I did some research about this and I learned that it affects my emotional regulation, executive functions, sleep and the ability to focus on certain things. I am hoping to get a proper medical diagnosis and to find the right medication that can help my condition the most.
So yeah, I haven't typed like this in forever, but I just felt like sharing what I've been up to for the past months or so.

it looks very close to done. Stick an exit room on it if you haven't already, then work on lighting/shadows. Pepper in some revenants and chaingun guys and the bad boy is cooked to perfection.
-
No harm in putting a map aside for some time and coming back to it some weeks/months later. Some cave or outdoor areas would complement that nicely.
-
You have this thing about making a decent layout then just dropping it Breez, I wish I could tell you what do to but at least in this case the layout doesn't need much.

Creative burnout is a bitch. I wish I knew what's keeping me from getting shit done.

I feel like giving up on mapping for good. I just can't get any creativity or motivation for going for myself when it comes to level design.

The method I'm using now is listening to a midi and building the map I think it sounds like. I have a big advantage from having a memory of over 25 years of gaming, there's a lot of architectural knowledge in there. Looking at some real photos through google search can bring some great stuff, like this:

I just plain hate dust. I got a new keyboard a few months back, and now the thing is bathed in dust behind my keys. If only if I didn't live in such an old, dusty house.
-
I went and made a twitter, because tumblr's bad enough.

I'm not happy with the fact that I have trouble focusing on certain things and getting sidetracked easily. Especially when I'm doing schoolwork or just working on a map. I tend to just do fuck all and browse the internet for no apparent reason than to do something important.
-
I've the same issue. It might be inconvienent, but having seperate locations for certain tasks, then getting into a dedicated routine for that area helps immensly. I use my basement for work, as there is no tv, no simple way to browse the internet. It's a good way to seperate mind states.
-
Either this kind of "self-flagellation" to make it impossible getting distracted (no internet- no browsing, kinda what I did last 20 years), or some kind of very strict self reward-system. (1h Browsing/watching shit every 2h you work on sth important). Whatever works out best for you...

your mayhem map is more important than homework young man

Well shit, I'm 18 years old today. I'm apparently an adult now.
-
Whoa, this new layout seems pretty odd. This is definitely gonna take some time to get used to.

So yeah, today is my 17th birthday. And I have quite a cold, so I don't know how I feel about this. It's wonderful and it sucks at the same time.
