Might have been some Doom 2016 announcement around then as well.

If you want to know more about furries, this video is fascinating. -
They had to retire it after I won the forums by getting the highest postcount of all time.

I stayed in contact with him for years after he left the forums, and he was a sort of friend of mine for a while. He used to dm me on AIM or Steam or whatever and rant at me about whatever was on his mind. Sadly last time I talked to him was in 2016 when we had a disagreement over Trump and he never messaged me again after that. Hoping this isn't true, but RIP if it is.

Oh man, that's a classic.

I was 12 when I first started making levels in Doom. I'm 38 now and still haven't finished a proper WAD in my life.

I remember a wad called eaket.wad or maybe something like eket.wad which was of some guy's high school (classic but cliche). It had a couple custom textures for lockers and the school crest (which was a lion IIRC). It was fairly nonlinear and I loved using it to mess around with the D! launcher's randomizer. I found it on some website that had a collection of "best Doom 1 wads" or something like that which also had some classics like UAC_DEAD. Last I heard about it was at least 15 years ago when I found a post by the guy who made it saying he had lost it and was wondering if anyone had a copy. I checked all my old floppies I used to store wads on but it wasn't there. Sadly, I have no proof it ever existed aside from my memories.

I was living with a dude who owned one. Air fryer food is fucking addicting.

What's something about Doom you absolutely love?
Sharessa replied to zzzornbringer's topic in Doom General
First of all, I think it represents the epitome of what a good FPS is. It was very advanced for its time, but also held up for years to come. Along with Duke Nukem 3D, Quake 2, and to a lesser extent Quake and Half-Life, I feel its the exact amount of action, nonlinearity, and immersiveness you need in a first person action game. After Half-Life, first person games got too bogged down with story to really be enjoyable. There was just too much waiting around and being lead on rails to have fun. Secondly, after getting into it I was soon introduced to stuff such as D!Zone and thus the concept of custom levels which I downloaded hungrily when I first got on the Internet. Soon after I came across an old Doom editor (called DoomE2 I believe) where I experimented around with level editing and I was kind of amazed at the power of creation at my hands. I never really got good at editing and I've lost most of the ability I had, but it was fun while it lasted and it lead me here twenty years ago. And lastly, the community introduced me to some of the best friends I ever had, better than my real life friends, it turns out, because they've stuck with me longer. So thanks to this game for changing my life, I guess. -
I've been spending way too much time playing Humankind. Just got my first win earlier today. Really awesome game and worth the wait, despite buying it for my birthday...6 months ago.

I, for one, am nostalgic for the years when Lüt spent his precious time dunking on the n00bs.

To add to and expand on this particular thought, I've seen a lot of communities basically just having the guideline of something along the lines of "This is a community where we want everyone to feel welcome. Things like homophobia, transphobia, and racism are not welcome here and if you're the kind of person that disagrees with this, you can fuck right off." Considering a significant chunk of this community has come out as gay, trans, or Swedish in recent years, I think this would be right in line with the desires of this community. I know most of this site's admins and mods agree with this ideal so it would be nice of them to at least put that into stone. Aside from that, it seems best practices to allow moderators to use their discretion if someone is breaking the mores of the forums instead of having to adhere to some kind of strict guideline. That being said, I think this new rule is great as I've seen a lot of that going on over the years. If you think this will be abused, calm down, this isn't fucking NewDoom.

I'm 37 and also born in 1984. I was about 10 when I first played Doom, and I was 16 when I joined this site. I remember posting here after I finished my work in my high school html class.

I didn't know Eldrazi made mustard.

The Great Mouse Detective is their best animated movie. Fite me.

I've been here over twenty years, long enough to have a page on the Doom wiki. Its all under my deadname, but I don't really feel like admitting I made those terrible WADs anyway. I'm a Pacific Northwester, roleplayer, writer, socialist, trans, and sufferer of chronic depression. That last bit was even a meme back in the day, ask your Doomer parents.

My dad downloaded the shareware version, probably when it first came out. I remember being hyped for it because Wolf 3d was the big thing at the time and Doom was going to be even more awesome. Then he got the full version and Doom 2 eventually. I wasn't allowed to play it back then, but I watched him play through it all. I first started playing it in probably '96 and got The Ultimate Doom for Xmas that year. "Doom wads" was one of the first things I searched for on the Internet after "Civilization" and Magic cards" which is how I found this site back in '98 or so.

I'm an idiot and was thinking of Duels. I either didn't know or forgot there was a new online Magic game out there. Anyway, downloaded it yesterday. It's pretty damn good. Best Magic game since the 1997 Sid Meyer game. I don't think anything will beat that, though.

Been playing a new game of Stardew Valley because I just noticed there was a major patch about a month ago. Still one of my favorite games.

Jazz fusion, psychadelic rock, synthpop, new wave, industrial, and the occasional dance music.

Granted, I only played it for the first 3 expacs or so that came out for it. That was probably at least a couple years ago. Maybe they fixed it since then and added all the cards.
-
I played some Arena. It was okay, but it was really slow. Also, the sets were incomplete. I don't know if that was because they had issues getting some cards to work or if they were trying to get you to buy the physical cards or what.
