What do you think of Doom 3?

I like Doom 3 a lot. I like the weapons (even the shotgun). I like the levels (I don't think they're all the same). I like the Elemental Phase Deconstructor. And I like the ambience:

Interesting Note About The Microwave Beam

I agree that it's probably not a UT reference. It didn't remind me of it, but it definitely would have if the lock on wasn't required and instead just shot the beam out and you could wave it around like you can in UT.

    Doom 3 Coop anyone?

Have you guys played yet? I'll join in. It looks like LibreCoop is for dhewm 3, so everyone should have that set up. It's pretty easy to install, I think you can just extract it into your doom 3 folder.

The Ancient Gods 2 - Impressions and Story Spoilers

With TAG1&2 being part of a "One Year Pass" I'm wondering if id were obligated to release TAG2 before the one year anniversary of Eternal's release? If that's the case then they only had 5 months after TAG1, with a holiday season, compared to 7 months for TAG1. I don't know if the story would have been any different but the gameplay definitely feels unfinished. The new enemy variants are cool but the screechers and stone imps seemed to be the only ones that were used in ways where there was an idea at play. The hammer needs a pretty big nerf, like glory kill 3 heavies or 1 super heavy to recharge, no recharge on breaking weakpoints either. There were a decent amount of memorable moments throughout, but also a lot of places where it felt like more could have been done. I actually liked the Dark Lord fight. I see people calling BS for him healing when you shoot him at the wrong time but I think that's exactly the point, you aren't allowed to just shoot at him when he does something and hope to stun him. I understand the other complaints like him healing when he hits you or all 5 stages are the same or he's just a big marauder and they're pretty legitimate. But I didn't care, I liked fighting him. I'm guessing id is now going to work on master levels. I hope they decide to make new levels though. There doesn't need to be any story in them, just levels. Good, fun, challenging levels, with all the things that make a good Doom level.

There is plenty of story left for a new Doom game

I just want cool levels with intermission text.
  6. The Doomslayer ordered the grenade launcher online while he was in his fortress and had it delivered by drone to that spot just before he teleported to Earth. In fact, the reason he suited up and went down was because he got the e-mail notification that it had been delivered.

Anyone scared of water monsters in video games?

Not exactly an under water encounter but you face some Dianogas in Dark Forces which scared me more than anything else in that game.
  8. They are older, but their styles are still there. It was a lot of fun to watch. It was an exhibition so no official winner, it was unofficially declared a draw, but everyone pretty much agrees Tyson won. The entire thing was done for charity, and to lift people's spirits in the midst of a pandemic. Pretty cool.

    Ultra-Nightmare thoughts

I beat it finally. I probably over prepared and could have got through it with a sensible strategy, but I really didn't want to drop my aggressive playstyle. So, lots of planning and memorizing, with a few pages taken from the 100% UN speedrunners.

    DSDA on YouTube

The kill counter on the Twitch stream is just under 60,000 kills away from 20 million. Get your PogChamps ready.

    Crystal Caves Remaster incoming

Did anyone here play Secret Agent? I played a lot of it growing up and didn't hear about Crystal Caves until much later. The two are very similar.

    Two questions

Lost Mission is worth playing if you like Doom 3.

    DOS Doom Code Execution

A large project that uses this would be cool, and playing it would be worth setting DOSBox up for plenty of Doom players IMO.

When is the first DLC Due?

    It's coming October 20th.
  15. There's nothing wrong with the shotgun in Doom 3

Which games are bad, but you like them?

I love Crysis 2, especially the multiplayer. I don't care if it borrowed too much from CoD, you had nanosuits and could powerslide. The orbital laser killstreak was awesome.

    Does anyone else see this?

I think it's in front of his palm from the viewer's perspective, you can see the tip of it just starting to cover the shadow from his thumb. Still looks unnatural.

Helmetless Slayer (or how to mod Doom Eternal)

Reminds me of the Doom 3 marine.
  19. Similar story for me, always had Fate of Atlantis, Sam and Max, and Day of the Tentacle. Years later The Dig landed in front of me and I loved it. Also, Half-Life and Counter-Strike. My new Radeon card came with a key for a bunch of GoldSrc games on Valve's new Steam platform. I had no idea what I had until months later when I made an account and redeemed it. I had always heard the name Counter-Strike on forums for other games I went to but never gave it much thought, and then it was like, "oh, THIS is why people talk about this game so much!"
  20. I can beat Doom Eternal on Nightmare pretty easily now and I'm getting close to beating it on Ultra Nightmare. I never got past Toxin Refinery in Doom on Nightmare. That was a long time ago but from what I recall there is way less room for mistakes there compared to Eternal.

    Choose your favourite Rune

Punch and Reave. It combos with health drops from ice bomb and health for blood. Throw an ice bomb onto a pack of fodder enemies, flame belch and BP them and you can chain a few BPs together, or get loads of health and armor.
  22. It might just be the specular highlighting from some detached light sources used to fill the room. You can see it on the plasma rifle in the second to last shot.

    Ultra-Nightmare thoughts

@Man of Doom My first two weeks felt a lot like that and I was stuck at Exultia too. I still haven't beat UNM, but having stayed persistent throughout all the self disappointment, frustration, and taking days off I've built up more skills, confidence, and level knowledge that take me further through the game. The process itself has been good since I started getting some rewarding feelings out of it and I've decided focusing on that is going to be way more important over just beating the game on Ultra Nightmare. The mental aspect of it is pretty big and it's clear to me now why the achievement is called "Escaped the madness".

Kernel-mode anticheat is a huge nope

I'm glad. I was less preoccupied with the security concerns as I was with the game losing its momentum and fading away from the mainstream only to ever be brought up again next to denuvo/DRM/anti-cheat.

    Random Demon Campaign Mode

Not sure if I like the random mode but using the skins to make demon variations with unique properties sounds pretty awesome, and easy to implement.
